Why would I upgrade to Vegas POST ?

@Dexcon Yeah, have to say that I am not convinced that creating a 3D camera (which yes, Vegas Effects can happily do) then manually moving that camera around really counts as camera tracking (and subsequently exporting that movement, if you fancy it) ... but then I'm not convinced that importing a a 3d camera fbx really counts as 3D camera tracking either.

To be honest I suspect the real truth is that Vegas didn't really write the features list for Vegas Effects themselves - they just took the feature list from FXHome from the compositing component of Hitfilm Pro. And Hitfilm Pro does have 3d camera tracking thanks to the Foundry module - but Foundry (along with various other 3rd party modules such as Mocha HitFilm Pro) is not actually available in Vegas Effects, and the feature list has not been updated to reflect that.

Suspect it would be more accurate to say

3D camera support

@MikeS  ... I agree. If POST wants to enter the top professional arena competing with Premiere / AE and the like, then MAGIX's marketing arm needs to tone down the exaggerated claims that tend to exist in 'consumer pro/consumer land' and instead be very straight-forward and describe the product's features without ambiguity or posssible misleading claims about features. Professionals will quickly sniff out the hyperbole and exaggerations and likely dismisss the product for those reasons.

Or they could add genuine, full 3D camera tracking to match the claims! 😉

The reference to 3D camera tracking on the website is a mistake. I've alerted the marketing team. Thanks for pointing it out. Sorry for the trouble.

It should be in there!

I received a Vegas offer to upgrade to Vegas Post, but am unsure whether Effects and Image are even compatible with Windows 11? The FXHome web site only indicates compatibility with Windows 10, and chatter I read on their forums makes it seem like some users there are impatiently waiting for Windows 11 compatibility. Wouldn't make sense to upgrade for me to purchase Vegas Post if the associated programs are not even compatible with my Windows 11 operating system, so wondering if anyone might be willing to share their experience running Vegas Post on Windows 11?

Glen-Smith wrote on 4/13/2022, 10:12 PM

The trial's a great suggestion. Was looking for some broader evidence that others weren't having issues, so appreciate the comment regarding a variety of users. If there were issues a warning that the HitFilm components don't play nice with Windows 11 would be nice, so I was thinking it might be a safe offer, but you never know. My only issue with using the trial is whether it might mess up my already existing clean install of Vegas Pro 19. If the installer offered selectable Effects and Image installs, that would be the ticket. May give that a shot to see how the trial installer works, or just live on the edge and play my own game of "Truth or Consequences". Thanks for your input!

I haven't seen reports of problems with Post and Windows 11 but maybe you'd be the unlucky one.

I think you do need to use a Post serial for VP 19 and Effects/Image to work but it shouldn't be hard to change back if you decide not to stay with Post. I did got the other way (Vegas Pro to Vegas Post) and didn't have major issues swapping serial numbers.

Glen-Smith wrote on 4/14/2022, 12:50 AM

Thanks Roger. Yeah, I was wondering about the need for a serial number swap, so that would likely be a thing. If there were issues with Windows 11, I would have expected to see some serious chatter on the forums somewhere. The curious thing was the Windows 10 specs at FXHome, and my sense that some users there were bemoaning the lack of a Windows 11 update. But nothing on the Vegas forums indicating anyone with Windows 11 was having problems with Vegas Post, as far as I could tell. Perhaps some grumblers who have out of date PCs complaining about things not working, after they added Windows 11 to it. Recently upgraded my PC, so hardware won't be an issue for me. Vegas Pro 19 is still spec'd at Windows 10, and I haven't run into any issues using it to date. I'll take all that, and Ian's comment above, as a positive sign. If Windows 11 isn't an issue, seems like a no-brainer to move up to Post, since the price is reasonable for what you receive.

I feel like I have been sucker punched. That was a huge selling point for me. Are they going to add it ?

@Dexcon .. Free sounds even better than $100.

>>But the current version of HitFilm Express - version 2021.3 - is the last version of HF Express that will integrate with Vegas Pro, that feature is to be removed with the next version.

Why would they remove HF from Vegas Pro? I'm confused. ..

Listen, @Dexcon, I got the Humble Bundle Deal for Hitfilm Pro two or three years ago, about thirty five bucks, and I tried to rally people on these boards to jump on that deal. I don't think many did. Hitfilm people, meaning their non Vegas user based - howled about that, and so I don't see that deal, ever coming back. Hitfilm Express is OK, but really cut down, but they will sell you individual components as you might need them, also a decent deal - especially for some, and then you have to disconnect the ad aspect, which jumps out at you right away. But that is doable. For ONE HUNDRED bucks, plus the integrated "photo shop" type program, I'd say this UPGRADE deal is fantastic, (I don't care for Photoshop itself that much, I have the whole Adobe Subscription) . Plus the Vegas Intergration of Vegas Pro might be better, more seemless than just the regular HitFilm Pro, but I'm not sure about that.

I've used it on things like skin correction, where I've had actors with unwanted beads of sweat, so it IS a very useful Swiss Army knife, and I do like Vegas included effects, but more is more in this instance, IMHO.

IMHO, its NEVER a bad deal to support the company you'd hope to grow wtih, ESPECIALLY if they lower prices, in good faith efforts to move the product ahead, especially if they are open to ideas and criticisms of the user base. With Vegas and Magix, that core base (not talking all the people across the world with crack'd product, which is probably A LOT) is not that large, and as such they seem to be fairly responsive, sans the few fan boy cranks around this site who insist on beat downs of people who'd be a little too vocal about or maybe insightful as to the actual problems with Vegas, and I'll shut up beyond that, for obvious reasons, but I STILL believe in supporting these "work in prograss" (i.e., ALL SUCH) programs and hope for the best.
