Oh man, I cannot import or edit any mp4's anymore.  Worked in 13.  Not only that, RED footage isn't observing .RMD changes - meaning I can't color correct in RedCineX.  And no modern Red Colorspaces or Log.. What's the deal, this isn't Red Support?

GrimZeus, where this MP4 file came from?

this is simply a repeat of what i wrote in the 'important' thread - no idea what they need the stuff they have there at all and why it insists on staying open once i've closed it...

am somewhat underwhelmed with what i've read about 14.
13 has been working fairly well and to be honest i'm not willing to shell out anything for a bunch of bug fixes -  what i expected at a minimum was some attention to the pathetic state of gpu implementation as a first step, and whilst i applaud the introduction of READ ONLY prores, that's not enough for the price of admission...

it looks like i'll stick with my present workflow of fast cutting with vegas 13 and finishing with resolve. should magix bring 15 up to speed then i might have a look at it, but by that time i think with their present updating bm's resolve might well take over as my all in one nle....

Have just unpinned 2 of them, which should help. We're hoping for an "FAQs" tag which would be better for some of those types of post than putting them in "Important Posts".

Like many of you, I was really looking forward to the VP14 release. But upon reviewing its capabilities, I must admit that I feel rather underwhelmed. First off, I very rarely work with any Prores clips in my scientific research, so that feature (whose implementation I understand is somewhat limited) does not provide any advantages for my particular needs. Second, the GPU support that I was anticipating is still barely there -- most disappointing. With regard to the new user interface, I too do not like the monochrome icons, as color (above shape) has been proven to be a key feature in human cognition and perception.

As for the bundling of software, I use Mocha Pro or the Boris Red plugin for stabilization, Mocha Pro or Boris Red for tracking, Boris Red for titling, Red Giant's Magic Bullet Looks plugin for color grading and video looks, and I already have DVD Architect from previous versions of Vegas Pro. All this being said, it makes no sense for me to buy the Vegas Pro bundle for $250. Next I considered the Vegas Pro Edit version for $200, but with little to offer me with regard to new features, and having a comparatively steep price, I have eliminated this as well. The bottom line is that I will stay with VP13, with which I have been quite pleased, and wait until some future release when Magix makes upgrading worthwhile for me.

vp13, user since v1.1. no email from magix except about their $59 sw.

tried the trial version, and the mono is a show stopper for me. arbitrary and capricious.

i'll stick w 13. they might win me back with 15, but it will have to be awesome...

I just recently upgraded, had bought their $199 Vegas 13+14 upgrade and I'm very happy with it. Didn't expect much progress gpu side because the aquisition happened so recently, but it seems like my 4k timeline performance has improved which is nice, I get full 30fps now on the timeline at full quality with all my effects added on which I didn't before. I'm also really happy Mercalli comes with Vegas now. I was actually about to buy it separately because the old Sony Stabilize was terrible. No need now and Mercalli works brilliantly, so the upgrade to V14 was worth it to me for that alone. My scripts were simple to convert and everything works great, so I've already uninstalled the old Vegas 13. Vegas 14 is a win for me, your mileage may vary of course.

Am glad some are happy. I guess those that took the VP13 + 14 offer are the happy ones and they should be, what incredible deal to anything that followed for existing users.

I'm happy with Vegas 14 (now) because it seems that everything is working properly for me ☺. The Newblue Titler pro 4 (which i had before with Vegas pro 13) for instance now works as it should (both in standalone and within Vegas pro 14) - Newblue recently released a new update for it sometime this morning. All I did was to uninstall Newbluefx Vegas Complete, then Vegas Pro itself (not including Prodad and DVD architect), then reinstall Vegas Pro, then the Newblue titler pro update. Sorted! ☺

Intel i7 980x @3.33ghz

I am disappointed. Vegas Pro 14 should be FREE as an apology for previous versions and ignore the customer requirements.

- New versions of Vegas Pro 14 can not play my projects with full fps in preview window. (Full HD video track and subtitles track). Vegas Pro 12 (770) plays ok.

- Vegas for 14 to me collapsing in Windows 7 - Memory crash! Vegas Pro 12 is ok.
- Vegas Pro 14 (and 13, 12) still does not accelerate work with my GTX970!

I want to petition for the return of the original color icons!
New Black are confusing and boring. This is not a sterile gray Magix Movie Edit. This is good old Vegas! Please do not change the good stuff. Change only what customers really need.

Update is unnecessary and expensive! I love Vegas. I hate when I have to pay for badly done work!

Every time - new versions and mega many repairs.
Every time - new versions and slower fps in preview window and slower rendering.

3D titles have long creating the BluffTitler. It's not a plugin. But it is quick and allows the GPU realtime preview. NewBlue FX Titler is slow in Vegas can not GPU realtime preview.

Vegas Pro 14 did not come out at all this year. It was to be only Vegas pro 13.5 update. The new version of Vegas I like to buy only when in editing fully support the new GPU.

I am sorry for my English.

At this point, it does not matter to me. I spent all of my Vegas upgrade funds elsewhere when there was all that talk about the end of Vegas. So now I will have to save-up again IF I decide to upgrade. So it will be at least until the end of December at the earliest before I can upgrade unless something special happens before then.

I need to be realistic and pay down my credit cards so I can focus on other needs BEFORE upgrading to Vegas 14. I expect Vegas 14 and even Vegas 15 will have much more to meet my needs over time.

Vegas 14 is getting off to a very rough start! Bad black only icons and a number of other things in Vegas itself. Maybe a choice should be included for a user to select having the new black icons or the older color ones. The upgrade pricing is a bad joke at best!

Magix has a lot of work to do!!!

Note: I type all this up and send it to Microsoft word to spell check it. It is not 100% accurate in spelling and grammar but it is better than my fat fingers slopping all over the keyboard. LOL!

Like IE and Chrome? Really?  That is like comparing apples to electron microscopes. A minimalist UI only leads to wasting time with more button clicks as you expand menus and search for the next menu or dropdown to find the next setting etc. That is like saying, lets streamline your hand, you have too many fingers!

As to using a laptop, while I know some use a laptop in a pinch, how are small buttons beneficial to pro users creating content on 4K displays? You think they want small buttons? You think they want displays optimized to a laptop screen?

Yes Magix need to rebuild the UI, and yes now It looks like Internet Explorer. There is any wasted time with a minimal interface,  if you are a PRO user, it is assumed that you know all the shortcuts. The size of the buttons need to be at least 30% smaller. I'm just a Vegas Pro user for about the last 12 years, so my opinion It's most than valid.

Well EXCUSE me! I have only been using for about 11 years so I can see where your much more qualified. :p

Although, I find your claim suspicious that you have been using for 12 years. This is only your second post to the forum? Great community member you are! Or, perhaps you were using cracked versions and couldn't register for the forum.

Anyway, it doesn't matter to me anymore. Considering this 'upgrade" appears to be more of a downgrade coupled with the seemingly questionable upgrade business practices of Magix, I won't be upgrading. If I ever need another NLE, I'll learn something else before buying and relearning vegas.

If i use a VP trial with deep freeze, that means a cracked version for you or just not ethical?

Wow. You have been using illegal copies for 12 years, supposedly as a "pro", and you are having to ask me if I think it is ethical?!

Not only is not ethical and absolutely sleazy but illegal! People like you are the reason we have to PAY more and have to jump through so many hoops to register. People like you are the reason companies go out of business because of not getting the revenue they should be getting. People like you also don't have the overhead costs that other editors in your market LEGALLY pay. And you ask if it is ethical... holy crap!

No, I am not happy with VP14.  I have done Beta testing for editing software for another company and rarely did I receive a beta version that was as problematic as I have found VP14.

I am getting regular software handgs while simply loading a small project.  When I can get projects loaded I have been running into render errors so if I manage to struggle through with editing the project I can't render it and since I can't open a VP14 project in VP13 I can't use that as a back up.  I've got to put VP14 aside for now.

Hopefully an update will be released soon as I've spent my money for a version I can't use at all.

bryan-quarrie wrote on 9/29/2016, 1:03 PM

...Hmm - I think I spake too soon. :(

Titler Pro 4 locks up now like it did with Vegas 14 initially. The Titler Pro 4 update file I used is 160712-482.

I'm hoping this gets fixed soon.

James Moore wrote on 9/29/2016, 2:57 PM

Well, I figured a few things out and it isn't as bad as I thought.  The reason why VP14 was having trouble loading projects was because one of the files was on a network drive and there was a networking problem.  VP14 just hung because it couldn't link to it.

The render problem came when I used a preset that appeared in the render menu's.  It was a pre-set I created in VP13 and it works fine in VP13.  VP14 loaded the same preset list as VP13 (I think this is probably not the intended path for VP14 render pre-sets but that's where VP14 looks - the sony directory).  If I render using a standard preset it seems to render fine.

I will push forward with this little project in VP14 after all.

MAGIX should first go - Vegas Pro 14 BETA for users testing. Then he repaired the comments and suggestions of users. And then go to the full version. Magix makes the same mistake as Sony. It sets a bad amateur software and wants more money for it!

Vegas should have its own ...
- 3D Titler (or BluffTitler like plugin)
- image stabilizer
- Velocity slowMotion improved (good as Twixtor) and auto Velocity for audio and video simultaneously
- Auto Tracking
- improved 3D Track motion with Depth of Field and 3D Titles like in After Effect

- All ProRes 422 and 444, and another where they exist. Not just some!

- full support for new GPU without compromise

You can not add three plugins. Fix old mistakes. Add twenty new errors and ask for the money! It can not and it's impertinence!. You lose the remaining customers.. The latest version of 12/13/14 are still the same. They differ only cosmetically and added third-party plugins. Vegas has to come up with a radical innovation for users of other editing software, think about a return to the good old Vegas! Change Ugly icons is not innovation!

Vegas future must be - a quality and reliable software, unlimited possibilities, without having to install additional video plugin. All in one.

Vegas must be free of errors already at the time of publication. You want money? You must try!

I am sorry for my English.

I'm sad that still there's no option to get a "Studio to Computer" levels in the internal preview windows (nor the histogram). i have to use a third party extension to do a half-job to get a proper preview. and now, it does not work with v14, and most likely will not be updated.

the new features are not in the area of my workflow. so, for the first time, i will stick with the "old one" (as i'm familiar with the bugs and workarounds). not worth for me spending nights trying to make all works smoothly to have basically what i have now. not even talking about new bugs that may have...

maybe another time... :(

It does, based on an old version of Mercalli:

Most likely will be updated: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-14-0-build-161-released--103567/?page=5#ca639259  I agree that MAGIX need to address this natively in the Vegas.

I use Vegas Pro since it first version, when it was an audio-only software.  I upgraded to every new version even if I did not need to, but I did mainly to support its development.  The upgrades price that I always paid was always between 139.95 and $149.95 .. no more!

Now, Vegas Pro 14 dose not have enough new features / enhancements, yet it cost MUCH more than previous upgrades!  Plus the new ugly B&W icons, it is basically a deal breaker for me 😤
