Disappointing Vegas performance with new AMD RX6600XT

@RogerS I will do the testing tomorrow. I will add DRP too. I have been known to be a slightly dyslexic, so make errors.

@Vincent-Brice let me know how it works out for you!

@Reyfox Just dropped in the 5950x and it completed the 4K project render almost 11 seconds faster than the 3900x (all else exactly the same).

Gigabyte Aorus Pro V2 motherboard, AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, Gigabyte AMD RX 6800XT, 64GB Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz ("Ryzen tuned", whatever that is), 500GB Corsair Force MP600 Gen 4 M.2 C:drive for windows and programs, 500GB Samsung Sata SSD EVO D:drive for video files, 1TB Samsung Sata SSD EVO E:drive for all other data, Gigabyte Aorus Waterforce 360 CPU cooler, Thermaltake Core P5 TG open case, Contour ShuttleXpress.

@Howard-Vigorita I'm writing this from my office floor. I've just installed VP20 and I believe the PIP bug has finally been resolved! 🤗 I'll get back in my chair now. I'm so happy I think I pee'd just a tiny bit.

System:
CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 3.40GHz 8 Cores/16 Threads
RAM - 32 GB
GPU - AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT - Primary/Discrete VRAM - 8176 MB - GDDR6 2000 MHz
Driver Version - 24.30.31.03-250225a-413647C-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition
AMD Windows Driver Version - 32.0.13031.3015
Windows Edition - Windows 11 Professional (64 bit)
Windows Version - 24H2

@JamBam Your, right! It's all good now.

Reyfox wrote on 8/11/2022, 4:05 AM

@Vincent-Brice thanks for the news on the 5950X! Considering it's price, it's another nice upgrade without having to spend for a new, expensive computer! I'll be ordering one in the few days.

@Howard-Vigorita and @JamBam, glad they fixed the bug! I'll download the trial and see if the RAM issue has been addressed too.

Ok...maybe my brain is functioning better. I don't know. But I re-submitted the testing with the RX6700XT and with Dynamic RAM Preview added (2% 653MB) as opposed to "0". Finishing the render, the first image is FHD, second image is UHD.

These are strong times - I rounded to the nearest second so the results display in the right order.

Reyfox wrote on 8/11/2022, 10:14 AM

@RogerS, thanks. I made sure to put my rendering settings next to the ones supplied in the benchmark. Only difference was changing it to AMD settings.

As I wrote, the only difference in the settings was DRP now 2%. I was testing another clip and changed DRP to 6% (32691MB) but it slowed down the fps and rendered times very slightly, so left it at 2%.

RogerS wrote on 8/11/2022, 10:28 AM

Could you tell me exactly what I should put in the instructions for VCE? Should be whatever the default is I think.

For Mainconcept use RC Mode: h264_VBR
For NV Encoder use preset: default and RC Mode: VBR
For QSV use RC Mode: VBR and Encode Quality: 4

Reyfox wrote on 8/11/2022, 11:59 AM

@RogerS the first two images are for FHD, the second two are for UHD.

@RogerS Yes, for AMD VCE I used the default Preset and default RC Mode: "VBR - peak constrained". The other options are "CBR" and "VBR - latency constrained". Except I changed the Profile to Main as was shown on the project example template. @Reyfox That might shave another second off of your render!! 😄

Don't know if it makes any difference, maybe in games, but did you enable SAM with your new GPU?

@Reyfox Main for the UHD will be even faster, I wondered why you have an excellent time for FHD but your UHD was a bit slow compared, , should be nice now having a GPU with a bit of umph 😉👍

Reyfox wrote on 8/11/2022, 3:15 PM

@Former user and @Vincent-Brice I ran the UHD test with Main instead of High. And yes, it was "faster".

The difference was for High, 1:10.83 and avg speed 14.75fps

For Main, 1:10.51, avg speed 14.82.

Almost a dead heat. Maybe it would make more of a difference with the AMD RX 6800 or RX 6900 series .

@Reyfox Oh, thought it'd be faster 🤔, I don't use High i just use the default Main but when i have it does increase render time noticeably If i remember rightly. maybe i'm miss-remembering 🤔🤷‍♂️🤣

Reyfox wrote on 8/11/2022, 3:47 PM

@Former user your card has much more room for speed. I might be reaching the max of the card. Maybe with different types of video, the difference will be more noticeable. But right now, I am quite content with the card.

I've waited years to get a different card. I know new ones are around the corner, but I am sure there will higher prices, power, and of course the wait.

No, it was in good humour but I was serious when I said "MIGHT shave off a second from your render time"!! It just made me laugh, those of us who have paid out quite big money for new bits then get excited about gaining a couple of seconds here or there in the project 😁 So no, makes no more difference with an RX 6800.

@Vincent-Brice, getting the most of what you paid for, there is nothing wrong with that. Squeezing the last bit from our equipment would be wonderful. I guess that is why we are mentioning "why" isn't my massive threaded CPU and TFLOP's of GPU not being utilized.

But I ran the test and it was "faster" and used less "time", so it did work!!!

Thanks very much Vincent and Reyfox. I updated the instructions for the benchmarking based on this and also added VP 20 as a choice.

What do you guys think about 4090 or 6950 XT? Will it change anything? My CPU is 7950X, 64GB ram.

@Kosta-Stanic  ... Please be patient as the 4090 is only just being released (12 Oct) and it is now only the early hours of 12 Oct USA time. You might want to give buyers of the 4090 some time to buy, install and test it in Vegas Pro before expecting an opinion.

Well I just wanted to get some information. I removed my second post on similar forum thread. I want to buy 4090 today. And no I did not ask for waiting. I want feedback from people who maybe know or have some information. I can test difference on 6950XT and 4090 myself in 48 hours.

That's really good because you may well be the first person who will be able to let the forum know about the RTX 4090's performance in Vegas Pro.
