Forum Changes - My Account

SonyKSA wrote on 3/1/2005, 6:26 AM
This morning we launched a new My Account section on the Sony Media Software website. This new area will allow you to view past orders, keep track of serial numbers, see upgrades that you qualify for, and more.

In order to post to these forums, you will need to register for the My Account area. Please note that even users with an existing forum account will need to go through My Account registration.

Register For My Account Access Here

After entering your email address, you'll receive an email from our website with a link to complete your registration. Enter a new password, answer two questions in case you forget your password, review your personal information, and then review and select your forum settings.

In the forum settings, you'll see some new options. You can now choose to display your real name and system information on your profile page, and allow other users to email you.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and hope that you find the new features worth the additional effort.

Now w're on the path to 30 stickies, forum moderators, and thread locking! :)

Good job on the account stuff. But you forgot to enter your info in. :)

I made the mistake of not selecting the "reclaim name" option (because I wanted to use Randy Brown instead of g_randybrown) so this looks like my first post. Anybody know of a way to "reclaim" my name and then change the displayed name from g_randybrown to Randy Brown?
Not a big deal I guess but I'm kinda proud of the fact that I've been hanging with you guys for 3 years now.
TIA,
Randy

Nice. One step closer to most other forums (vBulletin, phpBB, etc.) ;)

I do agree that this forum runs better / quicker thanks to the lack of (unnecessary) frills.

HappyFriar... you're in the Buffalo area, too, no?

there is a form for reclaiming lost user names - it is not real obvious , but its below the "submit" button when you first registered ...

also -- if you can no longer access email addresses you used to reg products or old user names here -- you seem to be out of luck in some regards ..

musicvid10 wrote on 3/1/2005, 8:07 AM
Well, that was easy.
One question -- How do I get back on the email list for upgrade offers for registered product owners? I somehow got dropped and haven't received upgrade emails in a couple of years . . . .

I think I screwed up by registering my "new" name and using the same e-mail address. It did fill in my old address automatically but if someone clicks on my name it shows me as my first post being today...oh well, no big deal ...just remember that Randy Brown is that fun-loving, well-meaning, but somewhat ignorant guy that you all love known as g_randybrown.
Randy
BTW, for some reason when I go back to type it automatically replaces text already typed (whatever that's called). Is this something I change in my preferences or IE....see now you remember me huh?
MH_Stevens wrote on 3/1/2005, 8:54 AM
GREAT! but it made me change my login name, so

mhbstevens is now MH_Stevens

SonyKSA wrote on 3/1/2005, 9:03 AM
While logged into your MH_Stevens account, go here and, provided that you have access to your old email account or remember your password, you should be able to reclaim mhbstevens.

Randy, your accounts are both still around, and like you said, they both have the same email address. It is strange that when you created your new account that the site didn't automatically grab your old forum account. I'm trying to chase down the bug that allowed that.

Out of curiosity, have you tried the forum claim form to grab your old account? If so what happened?

Feel free to send me email via this form if you'd rather take this off the forum.

I cannot tell if my name is changed. When I post I see BobGreaves, but when I log in I see Robert Greaves. Now that I have posted, I see that it shows the post as made by BobGreaves.
SonyKSA wrote on 3/1/2005, 9:26 AM
Hey Bob, or should I say Robert?

The two names your seeing are your forum username which can be changed in your forum settings, and the first and last name from your personal information.

Since many people use an alias (i.e. SonyKSA) as their forum username, we have the two seperate versions of names. Make sense?

The regisration process went <very smooth> for me... I didn;t even need to "reclaim" my posts. I guess it must be keyed by default of the email address maybe?

The "My Account" settings are particularly impressive. Seeing ALL the products I have bought from you - and every version/serial number was quite an eye-opener.

Also... wasn't this post initially a "sticky post"? It had the word "Sticky" in front of the title and for a while this appeared to be at the top of the forum all the time. That's a cool addition as well. [edit] - looks like it was made more sticky now!

Oh... and Iove the edited status indicator... means I don't have to place a notice that I have actually edited my posts (which I do quite frequently... as I'm like that :-)
SonyKSA wrote on 3/1/2005, 9:54 AM
Glad you like it all. Thanks!

Stickies - yup - we just need to make them a little stickier. :)

SonySKA,

May I suggest that at the end of the registration update process there is a button for Done or Return to Forums instead of a dead end?

Okay,
Under My software I see Vegas 5 and Sound Forge 7 as expected, but when I try to add DVDA 2.0 (with my serial number) it asks for a computer ID. My DVDA is already registered and the computer ID doesn't show up in the box.

Also, Acid Music 3.0 isn't showing up. It was registered long ago to an email account that no longer exists.

How do I get both of these to show up "My software"?

What now?

Thanks SonyKSA,
Tha "forum claim form" did the trick.
Thanks again,
Randy

Gary, Good point. I added a link that'll take you back to the forums after registration.
