All Right!!!

You can now see (if the user allows) the name and website and system info and other stuff when you click on a user to see all previous posts. And I guess we can now email each other if we want also.

Good job and thanks...

Attention "web team"... In case you didn't notice, this forum, unlike DVDA has the column width for topic way more narrow then in the other forums making it look butt ugly and much harder to read at least when viewed with larger type settings.

For example when viewed at 1280 x 1024 the topic column in the Vegas forum ends roughly under the e in resellers while it ends roughly under the s in showcase in the DVDA forum or more than a inch different.

Thanks, I really like the changes Sony, especially the "Last post by" column but I agree with BB about the "topic" column. When I have "largest font" selected (very nice BTW) 4-5 words in a topic can mean 2-3 lines. Would it be much trouble to make the other columns more narrow to make room?
Thanks again,
Randy

Just a guess... I think what happened is some new poster that has a very long name means that column got expanded. If so, lets hope nobody picks a really longer one.

BB, I think it's due to the added "last posted by" column...very convenient I think and hopefully they'll adjust accordingly.

Yeah, sorry about table sizing issues. I'll have that fixed early tomorrow morning (posting from home at the moment).

So it will only be hard to read till then.

Sonystaff, the new forum is looking great! Keep up the good work!

Every time I log on the forum it looks better and better. Now can we post pictures of stuff directly or short videos? Well, might as well go for the whole shot. Nice job.

TorS,

On your software list, you should now see some of your add on products like Batch Converter. Certain add-ons will still not appear, as they are unlocked with the serial number of the parent app. Let me know though if you are still missing anything.

Just a thought... you could round up to nearest minute. No real need to have seconds show.

Mods:

When I click on the "older topics" button it refreshes but shows the same page I was just looking at????? Noticed someone else had posted the same thing in a different thread.

Now that the new forum is in effect, I no longer can go back when I click on older topics down at the bottom. What am I missing?
SonyKSA wrote on 3/4/2005, 3:17 PM
I believe I have the "older topic" bug resolved. Let me know if you continue to have any problems with it.

I am loving all the forum changes, but I have one suggestion that comes under the heading of "nitpicking." Could you make the text of the date and time in the "last post" column just a little darker? It's just a bit too light on my laptop display to read it easily.

John

[EDIT] Nevermind, I now see that it turns darker when you hover on it and goes to the last post in the thread when you click on it. Very clever.

I like all of the changes also. Why the large empty margins on each side of the center data? If you eliminated the margins you could get a ton more data in the same space.

It's the least common denominator approach to web pages. Not uncommon at all actually.
The center content is 800 pixels wide so that it will display ok on an 800x600 display. Perhaps a bit conservative by todays average PC, but it saves getting into a whole new realm of web page bugs.

Cruise some major web pages and you will find lots of them set up this way. I totally understand it at this stage of web evolution. Don't even get me started on CSS and browser incompatibilities.

Good catch Marquat. We were indeed counting deleted posts. I've changed that so we only count the rest, and now it shows a more accurate 35 on that thread.

Got another idea for the forum design folks ... in the "Posted by" column, how about showing the date when the thread was first started above the name, similar to the "last reply by" column? That way we can tell at a glance when it's a relatively new thread or when it's ancient history that someone has dredged up with a new reply.
Grazie wrote on 3/7/2005, 10:04 PM
Excellent idea Kellsie!
SonyKSA wrote on 3/8/2005, 8:25 AM
Yup. Good idea. That's done now too.
SonyKSA wrote on 3/8/2005, 8:27 AM
Marquat,
I made some changes to help with this if you're using the non-threaded (all messages on one page) view.

For users with the threaded view, I wasn't able to fix this since you're actually linking to a different page when clicking to the last post. We'll work on a better solution on our next major forum rev.
Chienworks wrote on 3/8/2005, 9:37 AM
It works well in Netscape 7.2.

Kevin & Ryan, perhaps you could put "(reply to: " after "Reply by: username", if you don't think it would look too cluttered. True, this wouldn't uniquely idenify which post it is a reply to if that person had previously posted more than one message. However, most of the time i think we're just wondering who it is a reply to rather than the specific question.
