SonyKSA took care of my problem.

Basically, I gave him all my previous email addresses that I had used to register my products (some email addresses were no longer accessible).

Everything showed up, even back to VideoFactory 1.0!!!!!!

Muchos Thanks, SonyKSA

Dan

A welcome change !

My only criticism is the addition of " Last edited by ". I often edit posts when I notice a misspelling or typo and hate that every time I do this will be broadcast to the world. Yes, I am a bit self conscious. Beyond that it serves little purpose. Oh, and I for one would like " sigs ", if possible. Obviously I would be the one to ask for that. =)

Outside of that, thanks for the upgrade.

I really appreciate the status update on my version of the various Sony products. Most helpful. Darryl

What still hasn't changed and should be is the CORRECT time the post was made. I seems to depend on WHICH time zone you're located in. It makes little sense to add a line indicating when someone posted or edited their post if the time is two hours off. Example my last post in another thread was at 3:51 PM Central Standard Time, and it shows as 1:51 PM or Pacific coast time, probably because that's where the web server is? This post will incorrectly show its was made at 1:57 PM. not 3:57 when I actually made.
SonyKSA wrote on 3/1/2005, 2:02 PM
Yup. The servers are on the West Coast. We do plan to add either a time zone setting or some kind of time zone sniffer in the next major update to the site.

Is it just me, or do we now have to log on each time we want to use the site? I've logged on to the site on 3 different computers, and each one has logged me off of the previous machine. When I go back to the previous machine, it then requires I log back on, even if I've left a window open from the first or second machine I'm logging in from.
Spot|DSE wrote on 3/1/2005, 2:56 PM
I agree, Ray. I'm constantly typing a little fast, and make typos, like the "loggin" vs "logging" one I made below. I usually don't catch it until it posts. But, we'll get used to the edits; other forums notify of edits too. If it's like the DMN, the original post is kept but only the edited post is displayed. I like that idea a lot.

Not just you. First time I had to re-register because it kept telling me that my email and password were no good. So I tried the "Forgot your password?" but it said there was no record of the email. So I re-registered and I got a message saying that there was already a user named filmy associated with the email I entered. (Same one I had tried to log in with but was told it was not a vaild email) The scary thing is that all I had to do was - nothing! Another message said it auto associated the name with the "new" account. Seems like a fourm waiting to be hacked now. But, like you, I have now had to re-log in when coming back. And again, at first, I got the "no such email" error when trying to do so. And the old SoFo and early Sony passwords seems to no longer work. I had to double check a few emails, One from SoFo and one from Sony, to make sure I was trying to log in with the correct password. I had to add a number onto it in order for it to work.

Ah yes, more growing pains being felt by most of us. LOL!

Ditto. Now i will always manually add and "EDIT" note to explain *what* I edited. I think it should only sayd "edited" if it was a mod who did it. or some other forums require than any edits be done within a set amount of time.

After a mess trying to get my account back up (apparently hotmail reads Sony's email as spam) I'm finally back. I didn't get any warning of the change until I finally saw a post mentioning the new setup. In the future, it might be easier to have some kind of warning post at the top of the posts in the forums. Seen that in some forums with "Before you post" and other such headings.
Anyway, I don't remember seeing a setting to be able to view the threads in posts. Right now everything's one long page and you can't see who's replying to what. It's driving me crazy. Is there any way to change this?
Spot|DSE wrote on 3/1/2005, 4:46 PM
That's how it's done on the DMN. 24 hour edit, then it's gone. I like that feature, simply because I hate making typos, or bad links that I don't realize are bad until after I've posted. But...just because a post is edited doesn't mean that someone is removing negative information. And if nothing else, *maybe* it will put an end to the inflammatory or inciteful posts. Or at least get someone to think twice before calling names, making negative comments, or attacking in other ways. Then again....maybe not.

Sony,

Thank you for making these changes and allowing us to post our profile if we choose to do so. It was also wise to require a legitimate e-mail for veification.

You listened to the forum users and made these changes. Thanks again!

One forum I'm on just puts "edited by <name here> X times"

I don't really care if it says I've edited since it's always to fix an error or avoid an extra post in the thread (if noone else posted yet).

Just got everything set up. First time I logged in tonight after the big change. I really like the setup.

Very welcome changes!

However, I make humungous amounts of spilling mustakes . . .maybe Sony can add a spill chuckah as pert of the Furom - goud eyedeer? I thort sew too!

POSTCODE Prefix? One thing that I notice is the address and postcode -ZIPCODE - that is insisting on sticking a prefix of AE or AF in fromnt of my actual codes? Why? My snail-mail operative will be flumaghst by this additional prefix!

Grazie

I had to reclaim my software because of an old email address. It showed up as far back as my old address went. When I returned to my settings I had to push F5 to see the list. That's OK, but I think it's the first time I've had to use F5 on the Sony/SoFo forums.

What didn't show up on my software list was add-ons like Batch Converter, Dolby AC3, MainConcept codec. That's odd. On re-registering Batch Converter, I could not get it to show up on the list. I know it is a discontinued product (rumour says there's a new version on its way) but I am entitled to it - which Sony's records should show.
I've not tried to re-register the other add-ons.

>>>Is it just me, or do we now have to log on each time we want to use the site?<<<

>Not just you.

I had to start from scratch too. While reclaiming my ID I got the email sent to the email that I thought would be on file, but the login process said was not recorded.

When I re-registered I used a different newer email. I adjusted all my forum view settings back to where I like things, then checked other areas. I now have NO registered software. It wants me to go find all my serial numbers and re enter them. It was painful enough the first time. I don't want to do that for something I didn't cause.

I tried to enter a message about this in the support "email" form. I'm not sure that worked. When I hit submit there was no acknowledgement and I got dumped into some other form that seemed to be wanting me to register.

All in all I am very unimpressed with the way these changes were done. If I want to download an update now, I'm not sure if I can.

For what's it worth...

I noticed the forum changes and first thing I filled out the new registration form and ASKED Windows to REMEMBER my new password when that screen came up. A one time thing. Have had no problems logging in with the normal desktop shortcut I've always used. No need to keep entering the password.
SonyKSA wrote on 3/2/2005, 7:49 AM
Hey Rex. It's hard for me to understand from your message where things went awry, but if you email me your past email addresses, and a serial number or two that you expected to see, I'll get your accounts merged up.

That goes for anyone that's having problems. Just shoot me an email via this form.

Grazie - the error where it was sticking AE / AF in front of your postal code should be fixed.

Thanks,
