It would be helpful to give people on the forum some info about your computer's specs like, 'its a Dell/HP/other brand desktop, i3/5/7 [number] with x RAM, etc - and does it have a free PCIe slot? That sort of info, otherwise suggestions would be made 'in-the-dark'.

Sorry Dexcon!
Here is my desktop pc:

Windows 10 Home
MOTHERBOARD: Asus Z170 PRO GAMING + integrated Intel HD Graphics 530
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i7-6700K
RAM: 4 x 8Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 C15
HD: 2 x 2 tb SSD + 1 SSD M.2 1 Tb
Samsung 32" 4K Monitor
FREE slot:
2 slot PCIe 3.0 x16 (Supported SLI/CFX)
1 slot PCIe 3.0 x16(@ x4 mode)

I use it mainly to edit audio.
Sometimes I edit some 4k music video.
I don't have too much money to invest in a graphic card, but want to understand if I can improve a little my PC.
And need a not too noisy card...

Thanks for your help.

How much are you willing to pay?

Cheap is subjective. 300$? 500$? 700$?

Diego_C. wrote on 8/9/2019, 9:44 AM

not more than 300.

@Diego_C. Cards near the top of your price point are Nvidia gtx1660ti and AMD rx590 based. Also noticed an interesting Sapphire Vega 56 on Amazon just over your limit by $10... which is a steal of a deal.

I just bought a GTX1060 6GB for £200. Hardly state of the art but it allows me to preview 4K with effects in full resolution on 3 x full HD monitors. That takes just 11% of the GPU for preview, double that when an effect is playing . Be sure to get the latest Nvidia Studio driver which Nvidia states is optimised for Vegas VP17. Thats with an i7-4790 and 16GB ram.

That is sure uplifting to hear, I got these parts:

Asus Z97A, i7 4790K, GTX1060 6GB, 32GB RAM, 256GB NVME system drive, 1TB SSD, 3TB WD Red

My screen is a 43" 4K Phillips ,... forgot the model

I consider upgrading an old V14 licens to V17 and start out with some video, totally rookie 😀

I take what you say as my system is a decent "beginner-solution" to get started, even with a little 4K ???

(foremost I guess it will be HD stuff from my Sony AZ1 helmet cam, and lumix FZ200, FZ82, and FZ1000)

Your system is powerful enough for a little 4k, 1080p should be fine.

Not the bleeding edge, but within your budget.

I agree that the AMD Vega 56/64 are good choices when you can find them in the $300 range. Newegg often has refurbished Vega 56 for <$250. I got my liquid cooled Vega 64 for $350 and it is the fastest GPU (for Vegas) in this price-range... It has comparable performance to the Radeon 7 for half the price...

Workstation C with $600 USD of upgrades in April, 2021
--$360 11700K @ 5.0ghz
--$200 ASRock W480 Creator (onboard 10G net, TB3, etc.)
Borrowed from my 9900K until prices drop:
--32GB of G.Skill DDR4 3200 ($100 on Black Friday...)
Reused from same Tower Case that housed the Xeon:
--Used VEGA 56 GPU ($200 on eBay before mining craze...)
--Noctua Cooler, 750W PSU, OS SSD, LSI RAID Controller, SATAs, etc.

Performs VERY close to my overclocked 9900K (below), but at stock settings with no tweaking...

Workstation D with $1,350 USD of upgrades in April, 2019
--$500 9900K @ 5.0ghz
--$140 Corsair H150i liquid cooling with 360mm radiator (3 fans)
--$200 open box Asus Z390 WS (PLX chip manages 4/5 PCIe slots)
--$160 32GB of G.Skill DDR4 3000 (added another 32GB later...)
--$350 refurbished, but like-new Radeon Vega 64 LQ (liquid cooled)

Renders Vegas11 "Red Car Test" (AMD VCE) in 13s when clocked at 4.9 ghz
(note: BOTH onboard Intel & Vega64 show utilization during QSV & VCE renders...)

Source Video1 = 4TB RAID0--(2) 2TB M.2 on motherboard in RAID0
Source Video2 = 4TB RAID0--(2) 2TB M.2 (1) via U.2 adapter & (1) on separate PCIe card
Target Video1 = 32TB RAID0--(4) 8TB SATA hot-swap drives on PCIe RAID card with backups elsewhere

10G Network using used $30 Mellanox2 Adapters & Qnap QSW-M408-2C 10G Switch
Copy of Work Files, Source & Output Video, OS Images on QNAP 653b NAS with (6) 14TB WD RED
Blackmagic Decklink PCie card for capturing from tape, etc.
(2) internal BR Burners connected via USB 3.0 to SATA adapters
Old Cooler Master CM Stacker ATX case with (13) 5.25" front drive-bays holds & cools everything.

Workstations A & B are the 2 remaining 6-core 4.0ghz Xeon 5660 or I7 980x on Asus P6T6 motherboards.

$999 Walmart Evoo 17 Laptop with I7-9750H 6-core CPU, RTX 2060, (2) M.2 bays & (1) SSD bay...
