I'm new around here...

please be gentle...

I would normally search for the answer to this, but I don't even know the name for it / what it is. I've been stuck with it for 4 days up to now - schoolboy error no doubt - probably a single setting I've switched on by mistake.

I'm using Vegas Pro 365.

When I try to "VEGAS crop", and many of the other tools, there is always this extra layer, behind my video, that interferes with what I'm trying to do. I can't select or delete it, in fact I don't know what to even call it. The image is a cropped extra piece of the primary video.

I've tried different video's from my camera, recorded and streamed (using Vegas stream), different resolutions / aspect ratios etc. Note this is directly after I copy my unedited video to the timeline - there are no effects in the chain. Hope someone can help.

Oh dear - it appears that when I render the video, the extra (not even central) window does not feature. Is it there just to show you what scene is playing perhaps? Intuitive stuff - can one switch it off?

Do you have "split screen view" turned on?

Yep, I had a feeling it was just a pesky button. I don't remember ever touching that button, I must look up what the point of it is. There are several killer settings I already discovered that are hard to turn off for a novice - maybe someone should collect a few of them together and do a video on "Vegas gotchas".

The point of it is to compare changes on/off (left/right or all/none), or after you add Fx enable you to view the timeline at full playback speed without prerendering by disabling all Fx temporarily.

I would, but the 24TB of disk space in my machine is not enough for the ones that I've encountered.

Maybe it would help if we organize a crowd funding for additional storage space? ☺️

Good idea! And I'm glad you figured it out, @Simplest2remember
