New AMD Graphics Drivers just released....

Reyfox wrote on 12/8/2022, 11:05 AM

AMD has released the latest WHQL driver 22.11.2.

I tried 22.5.2 and AMD VCE didn't show up in the Render As window. Now, it's back.

Too bad Ignite Pro is a bust. It will only work with 22.5.1.... and of course, in spite of all the hype of "just wait!!" nothing has or will appear. I can go back to 22.5.1 if I have to it. Working with Ignite in Vegas is easy for me. Guess I'll have to go back and forth with HFP 2021.3.

Whilst this seems to be fine for me in Vegas, it causes Excel (2016) to become laggy when entering in, and moving between cells. Also the mouse became glitchy moving across tabs. This was true when it was an option and also now it's recommended so I've just uninstalled it again and now Excel back to normal. No such problem with 22.5.1. To be honest, since the first trial and uninstall, I've just gone with the windows installed graphics driver and Vegas runs fine, no difference what so ever and it still has the AMD VCE render option.

I'm still on Excel 2003!

My only problem so far with the new drivers is with Ignite Pro, which worked fine with 22.5.1. The reason for me updating was because there were crashes in a program that I beta test. Now, no crashes yet.

But Ignite Pro works fine in VP18.... just not 19 or 20.

Use what works best for you.

So far so good after about a week with the new Pro Driver 22q4 on my 6900xt, Radeon7, and 5700xt systems.

After version 22.5.1, I tried every new release and/or patch but none provides an ordinary 10-bit WCG environment for VEGAS, even the Windows-HDR10video-watch is broken.

Got hurting and despairing deeply.

Annoying is, after some interval Win10 replaces my 22.5.1 by its forced-update-driver without any UI.
And it's broken, too.

I must reinstall the 22.5.1 repeatedly.

@Yelandkeil You can turn off all driver updates via WinUpdate with the Windows group policy editor (gpedit.msc) ... see: details. There's also an easy to use option checkbox in DDU if you ever have occasion to use that.

Former user wrote on 12/10/2022, 11:37 PM

I ended up getting an RTX 3070 Ti because AMD's drivers have been problematic in a lot of creative software - specifically as regards to GPU Acceleration and VCE compatibility. It finally got to the point where it was just easier for me to ditch their GPUs than go around the internet begging every developer to fix the software, wo which they would reliably respond that the issue was with AMD's drivers.

And I couldn't disagree, because there were too many packages from disparate developers that had inop GPU Acceleration and other issues with them (Affinity [OpenCL], Video Pro X, etc.).

Yelandkeil wrote on 12/10/2022, 11:45 PM

Thank you!

I've tried that DDU but failed.
Now the gpedit.msc, hope it works; go installing.

Thanks again!

This is the best tip ! Thanks @Yelandkeil I did this on all my machines, no wrong updates anymore, I remove all the new installed AMD drivers and reinstall 22.5.1 this is the best driver at the moment for Vegas and I stay with that.

AMD have a new recommended (WHQL) driver 22.12.2 , anyone have experience with that ?

Reyfox wrote on 12/13/2022, 4:40 AM

@Cameraman1955 I installed it. And for some reason, and it's only in Vegas, Ignite Pro doesn't work with it. So, back to 22.5.1. Ignite Pro does work in Hitfilm Pro 2021.3 and Resolve Studio with the updated driver, but again, sadly, not with Vegas. Since Vegas is my main editor, I went back.

Just a suggestion, but perhaps it would be somewhat helpful if everyone put what graphics driver version for their graphics card was installed on their PC in their sig so that if anyone has any problems we can look at their sig and be able see that perhaps the graphics driver that they have installed, whether for AMD, NVIDIA, or Intel, may possibly be the problem. Especially if the specific GPU driver they have installed is known to have problems with certain NLE editors.

I’m currently on my iPad typing this so I would have to look at my AMD GPU driver version next time I’m using my PC. I will include mine in my signature next time I’m using my computer and see what AMD GPU driver version I am using.

I’m just wondering, what is Ignite Pro?

Just adding to ReyFox's comment, Ignite Pro was FXHome HitFilm Pro's native VFX packaged as an OFX plugin bundle for other NLEs. At the time, a few VFX were not available depending on the host NLE due to compatibility issues. These days, Ignite Pro VFX / HitFilm Pro VFX are the VFX that come with Vegas Effects in Vegas POST.

@Reyfox  ... from several YT tutorials over the years re Vegas POST like:

... the FX are the same in Vegas POST as in HitFilm Pro - including the FX controls. Not unsurprising given that Vegas Effects is a trimmed down version of HitFilm Pro but without the 3rd party add-ons like Mocha HitFilm and apparently without much of HFP's editing capabilities. Vegas Effects is accessed by R clicking a video event on VP's timeline and then linking to VE via a context menu option in the same way as VP video events could previously be linked to HitFilm Pro. My understanding is that Vegas Effects enables access in Vegas Pro to advanced 3D space / composite effects long available in HitFilm Pro and more along the lines of the type of processes available in After Effects.

@Dexcon, thanks! I was on the fence on getting VP20 Post. I have HFP 2021.3, and can send clips to it if need be from within VP20. But I would never use HFP for timeline editing. No way.

I downloaded the trial of VP20 Post, and during installation, I was only interested in the integration on my computer, Effects and Image with Vegas. Yes, watching youtube videos gives info, but I'd still like to try it on my computer and see how everything works. But sadly, the trial of Post, while it will install Effects and Image, there was no ability to access them. Contacting sales, they said I would have to buy it first, try it and if not happy within I think, 14 days, get a refund.

So I upgraded from 19 Edit to 20 Edit. I do most of my compositing inside of Vegas. I just wanted to try Post trial on my computer with me clicking away.

Basically, you'd be doing the same thing with Vegas Effects. In my opinion, I can't see any advantage for you going for Vegas Effects. And in HFP you get the Mocha HitFilm plugin that is unavailable in Vegas Effects.

For anybody who does not have HitFilm Pro, Vegas Effects in Vegas POST would be a good option.

BTW, current HitFilm versions released under FXHome's new ArtList ownership do not have integration with Vegas Pro.

It must be a business decision by FXHome/ArtList. Yes, 18 months ago they said on their forum that a bigger and better version of Ignite Pro was coming, but that might have been nothing more than, well, rubbish. The test is whether or not the basic FX in HitFilm (being the base for Ignite Pro) are now bigger and better - but who would want to get HitFilm to find out these days given that under ArtList, HitFilm has gone totally subscription. Yuk!

Yes, all the hype and promise in the beginning, and then, nothing with Ignite Pro. I have no desire to invest in HFP anymore. You can get a perpetual, but it's really expensive... $349, but it's a 3 seat license. Get a couple of friends, and the price is more manageable.

But they are pushing the subscription model hard. I'll pass.
