OT: What do you look like?

John_Cline wrote on 2/18/2008, 9:37 PM
John Meyer just posted an old photo of himself in another thread and it got me to thinking, I know all of you guys by name only and, with the exception of a few of you that I have met at NAB, I have no idea what any of you look like. I have a mental image of what I think some of you might look like, but I don't know for sure. (Although I'm pretty certain that BillyBoy had horns.)

Anyway, I thought it might be fun that whoever wants to participate can post a recent shot of themselves in this thread. I'll start with a recent photo of my hideous mug and see if anyone else joins in.

The instructions to post images to this forum are contained in this "sticky."

My wife and me in this year's Christmas picture/card. It is a tradition now that every year we take our own picture, doctor it up and send it out as postcards.

Great idea. Judy and I have our pictures on the home page of our web site.

Good timing - I've just come home from a haircut, so I'm as smart as I get - how do we incorporate pics - do I have to ftp it to my webspace first - then what?

Edit: thanks Johnmeyer - here goes:

Sure, what the heck. This is me, a few years (and a few cameras) back. I've since become much more handsome and debonair. You wouldn't believe the improvement.

No one takes pictures of me. This is from a group photo. One minute airbrush to get rid of the others.

I upload to Photobucket. I then paste the URL for my uploaded photo into the message in this forum, and use the tags as described in the "sticky" at the top of each group in this forum. For instance, to post my last pic, here's what I typed:

[ img=http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w208/johnmeyer/JohnMeyer.jpg ]

but without the spaces between the beginning and ending brackets and the rest of the text.

Thanks John - I've managed to get two different pics up, but the first was stretched and too wide, and the second, which was a more widescreen ratio pic, was squeezed and too thin - how do you maintain AR?
Chienworks wrote on 2/18/2008, 10:42 PM

I had never thought about it until John mentioned it, but apparently i have generated mental images of most of you folks over the years. I'm always fascinated at how our minds make up details where none exist. So far the only one that's been even remotely close is John Cline.

That me stepping out of a pub in Ireland - thus the smile on my face...
johnmeyer wrote on 2/18/2008, 10:52 PM
"how do you maintain AR?"I'm not sure. I have had some pictures get distorted when posted here and I'm not sure why. I definitely didn't do anything unusual when I posted the two pics tonight; I just edited them, saved them as JPG, and then posted as I described in my last post above.

Maybe someone else know ...

If you keep the photo less than about 600 pixels wide, it will display with the correct aspect ratio.
PeterWright wrote on 2/18/2008, 11:07 PM
Thanks John - I'll keep that in mind in future.
Just before I read your post I'd replaced the pic with a .gif which is 1240 x 826 and for some reason that's come up looking "normal".

... and on another topic, I sent my Zoom H4 to Sydney to get the firmware update problem fixed and it returned a week later complete with 2.1 firmware. They didn't say how they fixed it, though.

(Just editing away a bit after midnight over here in Oz ... all m2t's ... no major problems for about 3 days ... and Vegas just locked up ... so I thought I'd check the forum and see if Vegas Pro 8.0_fixed is out yet ... )

Cheers,
