Preview is in slow motion

HeyItsChase wrote on 6/29/2018, 4:33 AM

My Preview window is in slow motion somehow. I don't know how or why, but whatever video I put in it is in slow motion. It plays at about 1 second of video every 2 seconds. I checked the Playback Rate and it's perfectly normal. Not sure what to do. I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 14. When I actually render the video, it is not in slow motion, so it is only the preview window.

Also provide details how you recorded the gameplay video (Magix Vegas Pro not Sony BTW)

Very strange. HeyItsChase's video appears to show the 59.94i project is smoothly playing at 59.94fps.

I recorded the gameplay in 1080p 60fps through the Elgato HD60S in .mp4

This really didn't help much, it doesn't cover my problem. The preview window isn't lagging, it never has. It's in a weird slow motion mode or something no matter what video I place in there.

It is possible that device creates files Vegas can't read properly. You may need to convert the footage. Check this out:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-why-won-t-vegas-open-my-file-correctly-codecs-converters-etc--104572/

Also try a forum search for "elgato" Fair number of reports of incompatibility issues; mostly audio.

What impresses me is that the timecode display of the timeline is counting at half speed. No matter how hard I try to do this to my timeline or project settings (timecode display), it doesn't happen.

As far as I know, seconds of the timecode display should always be real seconds. In this video that is not the case (playback for 8 of 11 seconds in the video, TC advances ~4s). Only (other) solution could be that this captured video is also palyed back at half speed (can't find any real time reference).

Set your project settings to progressive scan, it's on interlaced and you are essentially downgrading the quality of your 1080p source. Other than that, this one is a real head scratcher. It shows it is playing back smoothly at 60fps, shows the project settings are 60fps, playback rate is at 1.00 where it should be, but timecode is counting 2 seconds for every 1. I've never seen anything like it.

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

Yeah I have absolutely no clue how I did it. I just closed the software when I was done the other day, then opened it today, and it acts like this.

So I messed with the little triangle rate thing in the bottom left, and set it to 2, then it seemed like it played normally, but still no audio, and not a permanent solution.

We're going to need to see your media info, exact project settings, and your system configuration before we can try to isolate what is going on. Refer to walter-i's post above for instructions (the link at the end). if you can upload the clip itself and your project file, even better.

@HeyItsChase

Did you check out whether or not the Elgato files are compatible with Vegas?

Elgato files (mp4) have always worked. I tested different types of media files and the same thing happens.

max8 wrote on 6/30/2018, 3:16 AM

As problems with the audio hardware can sometimes lead to a stuck cursor (no playback at all until restarting Vegas), maybe this could also be caused by your soundcard/interface/driver settings?

Kinvermark wrote on 6/30/2018, 10:47 AM

@HeyItsChase

Can you share a short sample media file with the problem? Can you isolate the problem to just the one computer?

Former user wrote on 6/30/2018, 11:15 AM

I have version 12 so I can't open the Veg file but the MP4 file plays fine on my timeline.

Kinvermark wrote on 6/30/2018, 12:20 PM

OK, downloaded project and tested in Vegas 14. Works perfectly.

This is evidence that the problem is with your install of Vegas, but as I cannot recreate the problem, there is nothing for me to test further.

I suggest a Vegas Reset if you haven't already done so, then file a tech support request. See the FAQ on front page.

THIS FIXED IT!! Thank you so much! I found a video that showed me to hold Shift and Control on the Shortcut then reset values, and everything works! And my presets are still there! Thank you and everyone for the help!!
