@ Rich Parry

I can confirm that I've swapped CPUs on Windows machines without reinstalling the operating system. I haven't done it with Windows 10. Usually, motherboard swaps are more problematic, but I've done that, too. In the case of motherboard replacement (with an identical part number), I had to re-activate Windows. If I was planning to change to a different motherboard part number, I'd plan to re-install the operating system, just because.

Hi Richard,
I removed the Xeon & Graphics card and replaced them with the following...

Radeon RX 480 8GB Card
Intel i7 5820k 3.30ghz 6 core 12 threads

Video was still choppy even after rendering with handbrake outwith Vegas to 1920 × 1080. I only reinstalled to eliminate anything else causing the issue changing CPU doesnt not require a reinstall nor does gpu :). The system is a flying machine outside of vegas but thought by using handbrake with smaller compressed files it would have solved the issue but it hasnt. I'm now just over £2000 for this build and still not able to edit a video without issues...Its behyond me this one :(

Alan,

Thanks for reply. I thought if changing CPU and GPU helped you I would consider doing it. My PC is a dual Xeon system with 24 cores, paid $5000 US. Buying my Xeon based PC was a mistake, for Vegas, "cores" aren't as important as MHz.

Good luck,

Rich

Has anyone used Editready for transcoding to XAVC ?

Alan, did you remember the capital B in "HandBrake" in your modifications to C:\frameserver\batch\start_vegas2handbrake.bat? Maybe paste that file and we'll take a look at it. Use a code block with those blue < > symbols when you compose the post.

You don't NEED to frameserve. You can render out an intermediate file and load that directly into Handbrake, thereby avoiding the audio issues with Debugmode Frameserver. I'm not sure which lossless or near-lossless codecs Handbrake will accept. Some contenders are in section 4a of that link. Also a man who knows what he's talking about said that UT Video Codec works in Handbrake. That's lossless and you'll find it under Video For Windows render options after installing.

In fact you don't NEED to use Handbrake at all. MainConcept AVC can make a pretty job. Follow the guidance in section 3 of that link.

What's the destination for the file?

NickHope wrote on 6/16/2017, 1:29 PM

p.s. To be clear, all this talk of Handbrake, Vegas2Handbrake, and MainConcept AVC is with reference to rendering a finished file, presumably for upload to YouTube or whatever.

The XAVC-Intra advice from OldSmoke was for converting your footage before editing so it plays nicely in Vegas.

Just want to make sure we're not at crossed-purposes.

AlanDogg wrote on 6/16/2017, 3:25 PM

Hi Nick,
To be honest I dont know what I've done (Head is pretty fried at the moment with it all) Cant even find the post again the refs to the C:\frameserver\batch\start_vegas2handbrake.bat to check.

I was only using handbrake so that preview would playback smoothly. The intension is to burn the finished music video to blueray to play on the big screen at the concert we intend doing in a few months time after the song release. I will also upload the video to youtube after the screening at the gig. I have tried transcoding a few clips in handbrake standalone several times then importing them into sony vegas but im unsure when previewing what is true quality and what is not. I cant even find how to transcode to XAVC-Intra so it plays nicely as you say in Vegas. Handbrake, Vegas2Handbrake, and MainConcept AVC I though was for rendering to use while editing but now realise that its for the finished video.

So in a nutshell...All I want to do is have my existing clips playable while editing in vegas

Alan,

You can use the free Sony Catalyst Browse software to transcode all your footage to XAVC-I.

Thanks Oldsmoke, Browse part free! Catalyst Prepare trial?

AlanDogg wrote on 6/17/2017, 2:32 AM

Hi Oldsmoke,
I have transcoded using Sony Catalyst and videos are running smoothly on vegas timeline :) Will see how things progress. @ Rich Parry I defo recommend the upgrade because its night and day from the Xeon :)

Thanks all for your help would never have got this far had I not had your input :)

OldSmoke wrote on 6/17/2017, 8:17 AM

I am glad you got it all working now. Catalyst Prepare is now a subscription based software and integrates with Sony's NLE which is subscription based too.

Hi Guys,
3 Quick questions,
1. My drone footage is 25fps and the iphone 6s is 29fps. The video template is on 25fps and some phone shots look a little double vision after rendering through Sony Catalyst. Is there a way to correct this?

2. I have a shot with the drone flying over the sand on our local beach and due to the downdraft it looks a bit bumpy in places is there a way to correct it?

3. I have tried a few programs for colour grading is there a way to colour grade and correct dark footage thats easy?

Thanks again, Video is coming along great :)

Don't change the frame rate in Catalyst Browse, render always with the source frame rate.

Import into Vegas and disable resample.

Have you tried Vegas Stabilize FX? You must apply it as a Media FX. If that isn't sufficient, look at ProDad's Mercalli 4.

3. I have tried a few programs for colour grading is there a way to colour grade and correct dark footage thats easy?

Honestly, no. Color grading needs experience and it doesn't come overnight. NewBlueFX may have some quick fix FXs for it, all not free and I don't trust their plug ins at all, the are the cause for many issues and their upgrade path is unfathomable.
