I also used to use Scenalyzer, but I got along better with one of the earlier versions (sclive20030728.zip or sclive20051129.zip) than the later version still available on the website. Can't remember the exact reasons but I recall it got slightly bloaty and I preferred the simpler interface.

I use OBS Studio for capturing. Open source and free. Used by probably millions for streaming and capturing video. Very comprehensive with GPU support for encoding.

I also use Scenalyzer. I believe it is now free.

However, Vegas Capture can capture from MiniDV just fine as well.
