Some curiosity full questions about VEGAS's Future?

I was sad to learn that Vegas Pro Post is no more. But now I understand why. HitFilm Pro, the original author of the compositor Vegas Effects is about to fade away into history. That said, are there any plans to develop a similar compositor? I’m stuck in Vegas Pro 21 because I have always relied on having either Apple Motion, Adobe After Effects, or Vegas Effects in my workflow. Perhaps will some of these features be in the titler you’re developing?

Dear VEGAS Pro Team,

I hope this message finds you well. As a long-time user of VEGAS Pro, I truly appreciate the software's intuitive workflow, powerful features, and user-friendly interface. However, I would like to share a suggestion that I believe could significantly enhance VEGAS Pro’s ecosystem and its appeal to a broader audience.

One of the key strengths of competing platforms, like Adobe, is the seamless integration between their software (e.g., Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop). While VEGAS Pro is already an excellent standalone tool, I feel that its potential could be further amplified by enabling integration with popular open-source software such as:

- Natron (in place of VEGAS Effects)

- Blender (For Advance tools like Camera Tracking)

- GIMP (in place of VEGAS Image)

Here’s why this approach could be a game-changer:

1. Enhancing Workflow Efficiency: Many video editors and content creators use multiple tools for their projects. Seamless integration would allow users to easily import, edit, and update files across software, saving valuable time and effort. For example, being able to directly import Natron projects or GIMP layers into VEGAS Pro would streamline workflows tremendously.

2. Attracting Open-Source Users: Open-source software has a massive and loyal user base. By integrating with these tools, VEGAS Pro could position itself as a bridge between professional-grade editing and the open-source community, attracting a diverse range of creators.

3. Cost-Effective for VEGAS: Instead of developing standalone software for compositing or design (e.g., VEGAS Image or VEGAS Effects), integration with established tools like Blender or GIMP could offer similar benefits without the additional cost and effort of creating new software from scratch.

I believe this integration could be achieved through features like dynamic linking, file interchangeability, or dedicated plug-ins, enabling users to switch between applications effortlessly while working on the same project.

Thank you for considering this suggestion. VEGAS Pro has always been a highly capable and underrated tool, and I firmly believe that integrating with other software could unlock its full potential, making it the go-to choice for creators worldwide.

Looking forward to your thoughts on this.

Thankyou ❤️

@iEmby nice ideas! Right now, I have Paintshop Pro integrated with Vegas through Happy Otter Scripts. I can go back and forth seamlessly. And there is also music software integration with HOS. And while Open Source provides a lot of free access to software, it usually isn't as 'polished' as commercial software. Natron hasn't been updated in a couple of years, but I agree a compositing tool is needed in Vegas Pro. GIMP is free and works, but for me, Paintshop Pro was easier to use.

Links to access them in addition to Vegas having more polished tools, could help in getting up a low cost video editing/compositing platform. But for me, Vegas needs it's own integrated tools. Vegas Effects (never cared for Image) is a perfect example of a fairly polished tool that was relatively easy to use.

It is a great idea though and one I would be in favor of. Just don't know what would be required from a legal and programming standpoint to pull it off.

Been a Vegas user since V4. It's a great software no doubt, despite all the challenges.
Last year, I had to jump to other softwares to get better titling.
Magix almost lost me as a customer 2 years ago..I do have the Newblue titler Pro...but let's just say that it's been a pain using it, and I try to avoid it when possible.

My last few projects were completed outside of Vegas altogether. I had to get a subscription to Adobe.

I love @iEmby idea, if that is possible

I still hang on to Vegas in hoping...

I also use HOS to connect Paintshop Pro for images , and Steinberg Wavelab for adjusting audio.

Maybe the HOS could make a portal for integrating compositing software.

Just like Julius I changed and now I use Davinci more and also Adobe for my proffesional work

For compositing I don't like nodes (I miss Hitfilm for compositing) So now Adobe is unfortulatly a forced way to go to get what I need.

Maybe Vegas could contact this guy for adding compositing ?

The green frames are better in 22 than 21 (with my NVIDIA GPUs I just stayed with 21.208 as I couldn't deal with them) and hopefully will be eliminated so we can use the new decoders.

I agree with the hooks for 3rd party and open source software. Having x264 through Voukoder, Whisper through another tool, etc. are really game-changers for productivity and quality!

I observed one thing....

NVIDIA is better for many software than AMD, not only for VEGAS.

iEmby was also using AMD, I remember various troubleshooting threads with red screens, decoding issues, etc.

(Personally I think NVIDIA, AMD and Intel are all viable for video editing)

I find a 4090 better for Resolve but a 6900xt better for Vegas. Curious if that balance will change when the 5090 and 9000-series gpus are released... I expect Nvidia will always perform better with Resolve since it supports open source ffmpeg better than anyone.

An alliance with Affinity software (Photo, Designer, Publisher), that is already replacing/taking a relevant market share from Adobe's Photoshop, Lightroom & Illustrator.

Also, it could be the first NLE to implement ARA2 enhanced workflow functionality. A feature already developed and installed at Magix's Samplitude/Sequoia section for years.

Definitely, integration with this area should had been a given. At least, it looked like that was a given when these software were mentioned together first time, all those years ago...
Similarly could be attempted by companies that had MAGIX alliances like Spectralayers and more obviously those video effect developers able and willing to come closer.

I've read what has been written here, and agree that some of the suggestions should be implemented in the future. But I am one that wants software to work. Just work. No workarounds. Just work right out of the "box". And, at a reasonable price. The competition out there is really strong. NLE's from the free ones to the pay once forever and subscription king, Adobe. The addition of all these things, there has to also be a consider to the total cost of the software package.

Right now, I can open music in Soundforge directly from within Vegas Pro. With Wayne's indispensable (for me) and low cost Happy Otter Scripts (everyone should check out the free ones at least), I can also decide where to send my audio from within Vegas and where I can send an image/snapshot to an my editing software, Paintshop Pro. So the toolset is there to do just that. The only thing that is really missing is a replacement for Vegas Effects.

But without the core program being rock solid and dependable, it doesn't matter what "window dressing" we put on it, it won't go far.

I want Vegas to improve and succeed as much as the next person here, but the program has to work. The only thing I would like to read in the forums are "how do I do this..", not that something isn't working right.

It is unfortunate that Vegas Effects couldn't have continued as a plugin even if no further development was forthcoming from Artlist. I stll use the integration feature with Vegas and the full version of Hitfilm Pro. I still find the layers based compositng easy to use and use the powerful Mocha and Foundry motion tracking all the time.

Reyfox wrote on 1/30/2025, 12:23 PM

@Vdanny I agree 100%. But Foundry tracking was not a part of the Vegas Effects package and neither was Mocha Hitfilm. I can still use VE with VP21 though, or use VE as a standalone. I'm with you on layer based compositing, even though I did try nodes.
