Text media unicode characters encoding

Niconnexion wrote on 4/29/2017, 12:05 PM

Hello everyone,
I'm about to translate a song that is in Yiddich langage and make a video of it.
I'm using vegas pro 12.
The original lyrics that I want to diplay are like this : "שטײט אַ בחור און ער ..." well, it's Yiddich.
When I create my text media and paste the unicode text it displays funny characters, like if the encoding wasn't adapted.

There is a way to change the default encoding ?
Then I would be able to display thoses characters.

Thanks a lot !

Which text tool are you using?

I'm using Titles & text.
Then I select the default preset.

Which font? Does it support Yiddich alphabet?

I tryed different fonts.
Arial is supposed to support Yiddich alphabet. My Yiddich text is in a word document, the font is Arial.
Most ms Word fonts supports Yiddich characters, I just checked. But when I past it into my Titles & text media it displays someting like this : "ùèÖè àÇ áçåø àåï òø èøàÇëè".

I'm not an expert on Yiddish or text or that matter, but I would try one or all of the other tools like ProType Titler, etc.

I just copied "שטײט אַ בחור און ער" to T&T media and it worked fine

Thanks ! It's working when I use ProType Titler !
But Yiddich language is from right to left, as Arabic language and the funny part is when I copy/past my text into the ProType Title it displays the text in reverse, and when I navigate with left and right arrows it's also in reverse. That's strange but ok, now I can work, even if I have to upturn all the chars :D

Thanks again john_dennis !

You could also try making your titles in a photo editor (photoshop, etc) and then save a PNG or TIFF  (not jpeg)  file to maintain transparency when you superimpose the text over your video.

Thanks altarvic, but as you can see on my screenshot it wasn't the same for me ! :P
But it's ok i'll use PTT and try to find a way to reverse the line to display it well.

In fact now it didn't displays the text in reverse, only the words, it's even more strange...

Try to copy your text to Notepad and then to Vegas.

Thank altarvic,
In fact the left and right arrows are still reversed using Notepad, and it's also renversed in my Word document, I just realised...I think it's because I copied the Yiddich text from a translator web form that is specialized in Yiddich translation so the form use "right to left" direction, and I guess Word saved this parameter after my paste, somehow... but it's strange that only the words are reversed...
I tryed to upload a Word document for you to test this strange stuff but I can't ^^

Me too:

Maybe it's just a case of choosing the right font.

I want to add an arrow using a Unicode character with Titles & text: 🡿

But I see only a square instead of it.

How do I fix it?

@Skyblade You've posted in a nearly four year old resolved thread on a slightly different problem. Suggest you start your own new thread where your problem is more likely to get attention.

@Skyblade
I always do it like this:
I open the Windows character table and just copy the characters over to it
