VEGAS 20 is Here!

fr0sty wrote on 8/10/2022, 12:39 AM

The time has come, VEGAS 20 is finally out!

Check out that File Drop online collaboration, share projects with fellow editors, colorists, fx artists, etc... with the ability for each to leave you notes on the timeline after making their changes... and HSL Curves and new white balance controls in the color grading panel! VST is finally fixed and updated in VEGAS (New VST bridge plus VST 3 support)! There's also a handy automatic project archival system. Plus:

New GL transitions

Transition Progress with animation

Scene Detection creates regions

And there's lots more to come! New features will continue to roll out with each update. For reference, VEGAS 19 saw 5 updates, each that added new features, so this is far from the final feature list... AND YES, performance improvements are among the things being currently worked on to add to that list (some are already here, they started with audio by overhauling the VST system), and there have been a number of stability improvements already implemented, with more to come.

Ok I'll bite, where can I download this? I bought Vegas 20 but it doesn't appear in my Magix account when I log into the admin, and checking for updates on Vegas 19 also shows nothing :(

fr0sty wrote on 8/10/2022, 1:17 AM

Give it a bit... I checked the site and it changed from "pre-order" to just "buy VEGAS 20 Edit", so I know they are releasing, but they might not get the codes and links out until morning.

Perpetual licenses are still available (click the little drop down box where the subscription type is listed), but they do not include the online subscription based features like the royalty free stock audio and video clip library, the online collaboration and cloud storage, text to speech speech to text, cellphone to timeline, or any of the other online VEGAS Hub features... though I'm told they are looking into ways to allow perpetual users to buy access to that stuff as well.

So4 decoder is multithreaded now?
What about buffering a few sec so we wont see any frame drop at every cut?
I used to edit without any drop in early 2000's (of course with DV material), and cannot believe that i cannot edit like that in 2022. Even h264 fhd drops a few frames at every hard cut. Hurt my (and my client's) eyes.

As I already said, performance improvements are an ongoing process. They started with audio, video will get its day in the sun from there. This isn't something that will be completed all at once. Many stability improvements have already been made (and 20 is built off of where 19 left off) and more are on the way.

One cool thing about File Drop, collaborators do not have to be on Windows, or even on a computer... any computer, laptop, tablet, or phone can access it and upload media to it regardless of OS. So, if you hire a team of camera operators to cover an event, and they don't get all their media to you before it is over, they can easily send it directly to your timeline regardless of what device they use.

Will VP20 be fully compatible with Windows 11 and have adjustable "Fx" menu margins? This is a problem I can't seem to get around with VP17. All the Fx are weirdly cropped I can't see all the parameters even after adjusting the display/dpi settings in Windows.

Dexcon wrote on 8/10/2022, 3:26 AM

Vegas Pro's specification webpage - https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/specifications/#productMenu - shows that Vegas Pro 20 is compatible with both Windows 10 & 11 (as was the last build of Vegas Pro 19).

There's a free trial version of Vegas Pro 20 so you will be able to check out the FX menu margins on your computer.

Has V20 got a zoom preview screen & better more see-able on screen controls?

That is a big feature request behind the scenes, unfortunately while they are aware we want it and are working on it, it isn't ready yet.

Double click on Preview Windows works differently than in VP19.

@fr0sty Thanks I hope they do, when the controls are in the corners it's hard to get hold of them & there's no option really of working off-screen without going into the controls, dragging them off-screen, sort of working blind,

This is is my main prob

there's 2 control points in this pic ...? I can see 1 🧐

Even screen capture zoomed in they're difficult to see.

I have to lower the opacity to find the other,

It would be worthwhile if you could explain (in words) the difference between VP 20 and VP19 in the bug that you have identified. The uploaded video is inconclusive about what you are seeing as the difference.

If I double-click on the Preview window in VP19, it enlarges so that I can grab it by the top bar and move it with it. If I do the same thing in VP20, it enlarges so that the top bar is hidden and I have to turn off VP20 hard because the Preview window covers everything.

This is happening to me on a 1920x1080 monitor

My problem arises if you have the Preview window free. You are showing a screen of something else.

If you don't need it, there's no need to use it. Others might appreciate those features. BTW, those features are only available in the 365 versions, not the perpetual licence versions. DaVinci Resolve is heavily based on collaboration editing, so presumably that NLE is also useless for professional editors.

I can just imagine an editor waiting in front of his monitor for someone to upload a file to the cloud from an iphone so he can start editing new TikTok video.

Broadly, that's how mainstream TV/cable newsrooms work these days. It's not the 70s/80s/90's anymore.
