Vegas Pro 16 Audio Drift problem

Sean-Robinson wrote on 12/16/2018, 12:28 PM

I have both Vegas Pro 16 and Movie Studio 14.0... Short story, I like to upload game play videos to You Tube as a hobby. Recently I picked up Vegas Pro 16 and been having what I like to call "Audio D-Sync" with videos where the a scene is playing however at certain parts throughout the video the Audio does not match up with whats going on in the video. Typically I get a 1 - 3 second delay. From doing a little research I believe the correct term is called "Drift" where the audio drifts in and out... commonly seen in longer videos.

The issue is, I get "Drift" in Vegas Pro 16 but not in Movie Studio 14.0 and it boggles my mind. Especially Since I spent a butt load of money getting the "Pro Version"

Here is the Copy and paste from Pro 16 of the

Streams Properties
Video: 03:55:37.189, 55.748 fps progressive, 1920x1080x32, AVC
Audio: 03:55:35.444, 48,000 Hz, Stereo, AAC

Here is the Copy and paste from Movie Studio 14.0

Streams Properties

Video: 03:55:37.156, 55.748 fps progressive, 1920x1080x12, AVC
Audio: 03:55:38.689, 48,000 Hz, Stereo, AAC

As you can see the Video and Audio dont match up. I've tried "Stretching" and "Compressing" to no avail.

Below is my System Specs & Builds of both programs.
CPU: Intel i7 8700k @ 5.0 ghz
RAM: 32GB
system type: 64 bit
GPU: Nvidia RTX 2080
Audio card: N/A
OS version: Windows 10 Pro (1809)

Vegas Pro 16 Build (307)

Movie Studio 14.0 Build (148)

Before adding your files to Vegas convert the video to a constant framerate that comes nearest to your variable framerate or use OBS to capture the video with the desired settings

How does one Convert the video to a Constant Frame rate? Also I've tried using OBS, Nvidia Shadowplay, Plays.TV, My El Gato HD60... All of which when played back as a raw file have no Audio Drift... But as soon as i launch it in Vegas Pro It has Horrible Drift.

Variable Frame Rate video is a relatively new phenomenon for non linear editors to have to manage. After all, film, tape and digital video have had a constant frame rate for close to 100 years. Capture your video at a constant frame rate or convert your video for editing.

Look at this FAQ, especially number 6.

Install for instance the much used Handbrake,

load your file(s) and render them with especially these remaining settings

Here's a demo of the Happy Otter Import Assist used to rewrap variable frame rate iPad video for use in Vegas Pro.

It's so slick that you certainly don't want to step in it.

Sorry, I don't have any VFR game capture, but the linked video was captured CFR in OBS from another machine on the network via RDP. I rarely load capture software on the machine I use for editing.

Appreciate the responses I shall try Everything mentioned here :D
Still don't understand why I get the Audio Drift in Vegas Pro but not in Movie Studio though.

j-v wrote on 12/16/2018, 6:55 PM

You are using VMS 14, not the last as your VPro 16.
For VMS pl that is VMS 15 pl build 157.
Maybe the reason?

The answers simple You are using Movie Studio 14 not the latest 15. MS14 doesn't have/use "so4compoundplug", which your Vegas Pro 16 is using. It was introduced to Movie Studio with 15.

Sean, I've taken the liberty of altering your title to this thread. It was somewhat unhelpful for anyone coming along later with the same problem and searching for answers.

No. If you re-read the Original Post I Own both Movie Studio 14 and Vegas Pro 16... I get audio drift in Pro, I DO NOT get audio drift in Movie Studio.

So the way to get around the issue EricLNZ is to change the "value" in Pro to False for this plugin?

*EDIT* Figured it out Thanks mate! the issue was the "so4compoundplug".... When set to True, It was creating the Audio Dsync / Drift. When set to False, Problem is resolved.

EricLNZ wrote on 12/16/2018, 7:26 PM

Great, resolved at last. Reading back through the posts we perhaps should have picked this up earlier as so4compoundplug has caused a few frustrations.
