Vegas Pro 19 doesnt detect hardware encoder

Vesa-Hatinen wrote on 12/17/2021, 10:31 AM

Hi,

I have been using Vegas Pro 18 before and now updated to Vegas Pro 19. Vegas has never detected my graphics card. I started to check why and found out that the So4HardwareDetection.exe works through command prompt but when starting Vegas is Encounters error 0x80040002 while trying to detect hardware decoders and asks to update drivers. So I dont have nvenc render options.

I have the newest Studio Drivers for Nvidia 472,84 and my Graphics Card is Geforce 1080 ti, operating system is Windows 10 Home with Finnish language.

I saw one post back from october this year about this from Polish user but no answer how to solve this. I would be very grateful for any help with this problem.

There is a problem with your setup somewhere as I have a 1080Ti and it is working fine with Vegas 19 and with driver 472.84. It maybe worth doing a reset to see if this clears the problem. I will try and find the link on how to do this.

Thank you for your response.

I tried resetting Vegas with the instructions and it keeps on crashing while getting to Creating windows part. I tried the reset three times and it keeps on crashing always at that same point.

I think we might need a bit more info on your system. The info required is detailed here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/

Do you have Vegas 19 installed on your C: drive? Also you may wish to try running the exe file as administrator.

I also looked back using the search for error 0x80040002 and found one post. In the end the user got a refund. It may be the case a developer may pick up the post here if you can provide the information on your system as this looks like a config problem as you also mention that V18 also does not see your GPU card (V18 also works fine with my 1080Ti).

I'll gather the information. After I tried the reset, Vegas doesnt start anymore at all, it crashes always at the same moment, Creating Windows. Software is installed on C: drive and I have tried to start the exe as administrator, no change.

If you don't mind looking at error files (grovel) it can help showing where the problem is they can be found here

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\19.0 They show step by step the Vegas start up process and the result.

I cannot find any error messages at the grovel files.

look at these two first:

dx_grovel_x64.log and dx_video_grovel_x64.log

They may show up error messages where it fails?

andyrpsmith wrote on 12/17/2021, 11:44 AM

when V19 launches it first runs a hardware detection program to create the following file in the location below. 1). Is this file present? and 2) You can open it with notepad and you should be able to see detection of your CPU & GPU with information listed. Worth having a look to see if any errors are listed.

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\MAGIX\FileIO\1.0

File: So4HardwareDetectionOutput.xml

I have cleaner my registry, done a new install of vegas, tried disconnecting all other devices from my computer except mouse and keyboard, tried running vegas as administrator. I tried installing my whole windows again about a week ago, but that didnt help with the not recognizing the graphics card problem, but this time it might help with the starting problem.

Vesa-Hatinen wrote on 12/17/2021, 11:45 AM

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\MAGIX\FileIO\1.0 folder is empty.

My username contains umlaut letters, hopefully that doesnt mess up things.

andyrpsmith wrote on 12/17/2021, 11:51 AM

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\MAGIX\FileIO\1.0 folder is empty.

This means the hardware detection is not running correctly/something is stopping the file being created in the correct location. Let me look in mine to see what is in there.

@Vesa-Hatinen
Your hardware has also a second GPU that is at least even if not better than your Nvidia 1080 ti.
If you have a laptop it is possible that "Intel® UHD Graphics 630" is not visible at your hardware because it is not yet activated ( like mine in the beginning on laptop from signature)
In that case it has to be activated at your BIOS
