VEGAS Pro 19 Update 5 (Build 643)

It's very easy to implement, because it's the front end. Any developer know that.

@Ustik - Then why would you think it hasn’t been done?

Ustik wrote on 6/12/2022, 12:03 AM

While I think the old icons looked completely dated and negatively reflected upon the program (just look at Soundforge- still looks like it's in the early 2000s), I find some of the new ones to be too cryptic. I want at least important ones to be immediately recognizable and agree key ones like auto ripple should stand out clearly as to whether it is enabled or not.

Easy solution for @VEGASDerek, @VEGASYatharth, @gary-rebholz:

1) Create a competition on a freelance website for 25-50 designers

2) Let them draw the modern interface for Vegas Pro

3) Showcase the best works and create a poll among users of Vegas software via webpage/forum/email broadcast

4) Get feedback and improve on design in a few iterations

5) Approve new design not by pure luck but with proven user generated data

6) Pay the winner designer for his\her excellent job

7) Gain more happy customers

8) It will convince me to upgrade too and...

9) ...will cover the costs for the new UI design

P.S. There was somebody who already draw the UI design "prototype" for upcoming version of Vegas some time ago and uploaded his sketch to this forum. Need to find it, it was brilliant and ready to use.

I answered with my "prediction" in a previous post above

@Ustik - Sure, I did read your previous post. So why do you think it hasn’t been done, already?

Re Auto-Ripple, I've moved the Auto-Ripple icon to the end of the Timeline Toolbar by selecting Options/Customize Timeline Toolbar and, in the RH 'Current toolbar buttons' field, highlighted the Auto-Ripple entry and used the Move Down Button to move it to the end of the entries. Then highlighting the Separator entry in the LH field, added the Separator to the RH field about 6 times just in front of the Auto-Ripple entry. This way, the Auto-Ripple button is well separated away from the other buttons/icons.

Then under Options/Preferences/Display (tab), the 'Button Highlight Color' field allows for the color of highlighted buttons/icons to be changed to a color of your choice - I've chosen red (255/0/0).

Nonetheless, I'd really like it if there was something larger and more eye-catching to alert that Auto-Ripple is activated (this has been raised a number of times over the years). I still regularly fall foul of forgetting/over-looking that it's 'on' - at least Undo in VP19 is usually quite quick compared to previous versions.

@Dexcon "I still regularly fall foul of forgetting/over-looking that it's 'on'"

Haha, me too!! I programmed one of the buttons on my ShuttleXpress (which my fingers are always on) to toggle it on and off, and I now do it far less often. But I have done what you said and moved it to the far right just to catch my eye. Thanks. I've just moved to 19 from 13 where the icons were so much more distinct.

*Dreaming* One day, we'll have customizable UIs, will be able to make our own themes and share them with each other over the hub, giving us dozens of choices of icon sets and skins that are sure to make even the pickiest of us happy.*/Dreaming* (don't read into that, nothing but wishful thinking)

Reaper does it... VEGAS can too, perhaps, someday...

VEGAS can too, perhaps, someday...

@fr0sty - What do you think is the issue to getting a change?

fr0sty wrote on 6/12/2022, 3:42 AM

I would imagine such a thing wouldn't be easy to implement, and there's other things that need attention a lot more than that, so if such a thing could happen, it would probably be some time before it came along.

It would be nice to see the option to swap to the old button set for users that want it, though... or a new high res one made to look just like it.

Vegas is still such a graphic hybrid of old and new style. Some windows are light, others are dark. Modern graphic style in protypeTitler and Glint plugin vs old Vegas design in Win98 style. I'm not even talking about audio plugins. This is clearly a tragedy. It's definitely not a fresh modern environment that you will immediately fall in love with.

A competition for a new design is a great idea. But Vegas is not Winamp.

You change one thing, affecting 10 others. I understand if developers don't want to drill too much into Vegas design. We've seen a lot of examples over the years when something has changed and something else has stopped working. I'm sincerely afraid of that.

I'd rather welcome the new modern Titlle and effect packs like Filmora's.

About the "lost preferences" problem.. will there be an update soon which fixes this issue on top of Build 636? Or will it only be fixed with the next big update in a few months? I'm still on Build 550 now and wondering if I should take the risk with the update or wait...

p.s. about the icon theme... in my opinion, the new theme from Vegas 19 is a big improvement over the previous one. Since so many people are negative about it, I just want to add that not everyone dislikes it. It's also a matter of taste, after all. In my opinion, the best icon and overall UI theme in Vegas was the old/original one which was already there when I started out with Vegas 3.0, long ago :-) So the version 19 look is not my all-time favourite but IMO a step into the right direction compared to version 18.

RogerS wrote on 6/12/2022, 8:03 AM

Reset preferences was intentional, not a bug. Lost presets doesn't seem to have been but didn't affect most users. I would update myself (and did).

Jack S wrote on 6/12/2022, 9:54 AM

More on the theme design. In the words of John Lydgate, “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time”.

Looks like nothing changes.

On a positive note, just upgrading to 19 from 13, I appreciated so much just being able to crack on (aside from an initial instability issue) using all the familiar things I love about Vegas. Even my own dual monitor layout, just how I like it and unique to me. Sure I will be learning new features but at least I don't have to relearn or refind the basics. So for me, clearer buttons would be nice, but I hope any skin and appearance improvements are always just options 😊

One thing I've always wished is that the Event FX and the Event Pan/Crop would open in separate windows so I don't have to keep resizing and dragging it around. Maybe there's an option I don't know about?

Ustik, your idea is awesome. As an alternative, the developers could just add an ability to create custom skins.

fr0sty wrote on 6/12/2022, 2:49 PM

Look at how Reaper does it...

Imagine VEGAS Hub having a theme section, where we could share themes with each other, and install them with a click. Don't like a button set? Change it! Don't like the color scheme? Change it! See a cool new layout? Install it!

Hundreds of choices, creating community engagement, getting more people interested in the product. It's a win/win. Implementing such a system anytime soon, with a small team that has to focus on making VEGAS faster and more stable for us at the same time, that's the challenge. We'll probably need to be patient with these sorts of UI requests... but one can dream for now.

Updated the other day but hadn't opened it yet today I tried and it is saying I have a bad internet connection? (but I'm here typing this now) Also went to their site to activate it directly and still had problems. I'm hoping it is just at their site maybe down for maintenance?

That’s exactly what I was referring to! As you can see there are some talented UI designers out there, so it's achievable.

@Ustik - Technically achievable, yes, so why do you think this isn’t happening?

I have 5 extra problems after the update:

  • Vegas crashes sometimes.
  • When I preview in best (Full), the minute an event starts, it automatically goes to preview (half)
  • The cursus will not play anything beyond the last event
  • Sometimes I can not preview in full screen. There's no respons.
  • Sometimes the play knob does not respond

Will there be an update soon? Please!!

Reyfox wrote on 6/13/2022, 9:36 AM

I've found that previous projects in VP19 do have a tendency to not be stable in Build 636. I wouldn't anything from the past in this current build, but would start an entirely new project. Even if the editing starts well, I am not confident that it will remain stable. I also rename the projects with a suffix of B636. Once you save in 636, you won't be able to open your project in previous builds without difficulty.

@Robert123 The cursus will not play anything beyond the last event

My playback goes 2 seconds beyond the last event. Having said that, have you a particular reason why the playback should go beyond the last event?

When I preview in best (Full), the minute an event starts, it automatically goes to preview (half)

Have you by any chance got your preview setting at Best/Auto?

Vegas crashes sometimes.
Sometimes I can not preview in full screen. There's no respons.
Sometimes the play knob does not respond

There are a few 'sometimes' there. You need to be more specific. Describe your problems better to enable them to be investigated. Oh, and maybe start your own thread. It's more likely to get more attention rather than be buried in this general discussion thread.

Hi Jack S thanks for your replie.

have you a particular reason why the playback should go beyond the last event?

No I haven't. It's just a new feature that caught me by surprise.

Have you by any chance got your preview setting at Best/Auto?

No I have it set to Best (full), but it just skips automatically to preview half. This started today.

There are a few 'sometimes' there. You need to be more specific. Describe your problems better to enable them to be investigated. Oh, and maybe start your own thread. It's more likely to get more attention rather than be buried in this general discussion thread.

With sometimes I mean sometimes, random, not all of the time, every now and then. So that leaves me with sometimes. I have no other way to describe it. Sorry. Could be that my English is not 100% (Dutchie)

Oh, and maybe start your own thread. It's more likely to get more attention rather than be buried in this general discussion thread.

At the top of this thread the VEGAS_CommunityManager writes: "VEGAS Pro 19 Update 5 (Build 636) has been released. Please give us your feedback in this thread."

Hence my post.

Well I hope I've been a little more clear about my problems.

Thanks Jack S👍

Well, this is fun. After the update to Build 636 I can no longer render videos. At all. The process starts, then hangs up after a few seconds.I tried doing a system restore, but it didn't work. I've been working on this for days. At this point I just want to uninstall and start over from scratch; but I don't want to lose all of my presets.

Can anyone help?
