Vegas Pro Subscription

Roger Bansemer wrote on 6/13/2022, 1:42 PM

I was just about to purchase the Vegas Pro Subscription for a year when I saw this...

month 1 - 12: $143.88 annually
and afterwards $239.88 per year

So...are they actually going to raise my subscription price by $100 in a year. This is what my cable company does every year by punishing loyal customers with a huge increase.

Reyfox wrote on 6/13/2022, 3:13 PM

That's what is says. It's a "special" for the first year. I've seen this type of pricing just about everywhere. You pay a low initial fee for the first year, and then the much higher price afterwards.

Personally, I upgrade with the perpetual. It will always work as opposed to a yearly subscription where if you don't pay, the software no longer works.

Sadly, a lot of software is going the way of subscriptions..... they have to keep the flow of finances coming.

@BobbyP your previous message on the same issue here in this thread. Cross posting should be avoided.

Please consider the suggestion from @RogerS above. As you've noticed, specific issues may/will get lost in this general thread.

I'd purchase the perpetual too but it doesn't come with the new closed captioning Speech to Text feature.

Reyfox wrote on 6/14/2022, 8:16 AM

@Roger Bansemer understood. I too considered the 365 for closed caption, but would rarely use it.

No, from what I read, your English is perfect.

I still think it's advisable to start your own thread. Your post in this thread will have been noted, but to get specific help from the many experienced users in this forum, your own thread will allow you to be more specific about your problems. You should include as much detail as possible, including a MediaInfo printout of the problem media.

Thanks @Jack S and @j-v you're being very kind.

To be honest I wrote a summary of my problems since the b636 update because of the sticky at the beginning of this thread, which says:

"VEGAS_CommunityManager wrote on 5/31/2022, 4:07 PM VEGAS Pro 19 Update 5 (Build 636) has been released. Please give us your feedback in this thread"

So I did.

I was just giving feedback to the developers. I assumed they would read it. And ofcourse if somebody should read it and has a work around that would be great. Do you think the developers actually read all the comments written here? I hope so because that's what the sticky implies.

After ironing out a few necessities, this is by far the best version of Vegas to date. The best part so far:

  • I'm previewing 4K footage in Best (FULL) with absolutely no lag.
  • My 4K footage is also automatically building proxies when I batch import, that never happened in previous versions even though I had that preference checked in my setting.

What else will I find.....

@VEGASDerek Saying the same thing twice.

Thoughts on subscriptions: WHY the handwringing and lamentations? NO ONE is forced to subscribe, it is offerred - at least in the case of some - as a solution towards some who otherwise could not afford...(ISN'T THAT A GOOD THING?)

But that is not the whole story. It LENDS stabiltiy to the product by increasing the user base, and a realiable income stream for developers (LET'S call these WIN/WIN solutions)>

While at the same time, allowing the end user who chooses such a first-in-line position for upgrades WITHOUT SHELLING OUT the two hundred (average, I've been with Vegas a long time) clams....SO, IOW, what most are going to pay out anyway, the subscription user just does it in increments that work out to be about the same outlay.

I would imagine it also cuts down on the penchant that some might have, otherwise (because can't afford the initial outlay) to STEAL the product.

Why people bemoan the above is beyond me, unless they think this leads eventually to the ADOBE model, which it really DOES NOT, and I've been a Magix customer for years and they've also used limited subsciption options going back decades now.....So, as my dad used to say - if his kids were overly anxious: "Keep your shirt on!"

Seb-o wrote on 6/15/2022, 8:58 PM

Speaking of BOTH/AND solutions being superior -- in theory and in fact -- to EITHER/OR, I wish to thank Magix/Vegas for not mandating Win 10 OS as the ONLY way to run Vegas.

Speaking for myself, and I'll guess many others, we can deal with the occasional - "this might not work optimally" (or at all) - adviso, AND that isn't always due to some stubborn refusal to "move with the times." People have hardware setup, just as one example, that are not easily ported over. And I can imagine people in poorer countries would doubly appreciate.

I mention this because I KNOW that this was an internal discussion that was going on, (with the aforementioned hand-wringing) probably going back at least a couple of update cycles. SO, THANK YOU. I DO APPRECIATE THAT, and very much so!!

Seb-o wrote on 6/15/2022, 9:13 PM

Before I go...(and not at all speaking as a fan boy, my criticisms over the years have been legion, and I still have some, but.....) It should be mentioned that never has it been this cheap to operate Vegas, and certainly the current market/competition situation determines some of that.....but the functionality is better and the price is cheaper. Let's appreciate!!

Ready to start a new project, I have updated to 636 after backing up presets (Vegasaur) and registry. So far so good, and I needed to review preferences anyway. I will restore presets if I actually need some of them.

Considering that update 636 resets preferences, deletes presets for some users, and a project saved in 636 cannot be opened in previous versions, I suggest that such an update should get a new Vegas version number, to signal that it is a non-trivial upgrade. For example, version 19.1.

- Røde AI-1 via Røde AI-1 ASIO driver;

Could I change onother language in vegas 19 636?.

You are able to choose from 4 languages when you do a new install with the install file you receive from your Magix Account.

Is there any other way?

With 636, I get the following error message upon starting: "So4HardwareDetection.exe has stopped working." The error log says "[So4READER_FILEMNG] Hardware Detection Process froze". This error message did not appear with the previous builds of 19. (Search didn't turn up a solution, so I've reverted to the previous build in the meantime.)
