VEGAS Pro 20 Build 326 General Thread

@Former user, you can also use Shutter Encoder to conform your footage to 60fps fixed.

@Illusion I submit these files to improve Vegas, it's not about me, I'd open my own thread for that. The reason it seeems like a bug is the randomness, could flicker 20 times, 1 time, not at all, or any other number. it can occur with DRP see to 0 or any other value. I have seen this on iphone13 and 14 files in bright light, and would not be expected to be jumping between 30fps and 60fps, but I don't know precisely how iphones autofps30/60 triggers and agree should be turned off if the footage is going anywhere near an editor.

Not seeing the black frames in other editors but if anyone else does that would be good info.

The same black frame problem with this 8bit AVC file shared by a forum user

The interesting(alarming?) thing about the AVC is that it's all I frame

Hello everyone,

The VEGAS Team is excited to announce the release of our second update for VEGAS Pro 20, build 326. Please use this thread to post general comments on this update. For details on build 326, please read this post in the News forum.

Thank you,

The VEGAS Creative Software Team

Maybe it is better in such announcements to add:; " but when you encounter problems that need a solution start also your own post with your detailed information about your problem" or something like that

+1

Terrible, it's now slow as a dog. Drag and drop video and it does set itself out to the right length. Just awful. Did you guys actually test this. This software is now a paperweight. To say I am angry right now is an understatement.

Just a taste of things to come... please give your feedback in that thread, we need it to help shape the development of this feature.

I hope not

After the update, every time I add a video to the timeline and attempt to click on the video in the video track, Vegas proceeds to hang "Not responding" and one of my CPU cores is on 100% utilization. (EDIT: Once I started complaining here, it has resolved itself... after 5 restarts...)

Same here - definite, noticeable timeline lag - lots of "waiting for the hard drive to stop running" - it's like the freeze before a Windows driver crash, only it comes back after a few seconds.

And, yes, drivers are updated and system was rebooted after update.

Try turning off the project collections feature in Hub which can lag after the project saves.

I was the first to post on this thread, but I am pleased to say the latest version is now running on my computer.
The problem was caused by the driver amdxc64.dll which refused to update. That has now been fixed by my local computer wizard.
Apologies if I seem to be slow in reporting but editing is my hobby.
Thanks to all who commented..

You still didn't provide the information requested. If you want help, you're going to have to provide it. We need your project settings, your mediainfo report, as well as the system specs (which you provided). Best to not post those here, but in their own thread, so we can keep track of your issue easier without it getting buried under a ton of other posts. And yes, this software went through months of testing. That doesn't mean that we tested very possible combination of media file on every possible combination of hardware, such is impossible, but it was thoroughly tested. All media I drop on to any timeline on any system responds as it should. So we gotta figure out why yours isn't.

Are you saying you used Topaz Video AI to do all of those things, or are some of those effects being applied in VEGAS? It could be the video format that Topaz is exporting does not decode easily, which is what is causing your performance issues.

I also agree, start a new thread with this info in it, otherwise it'll get buried under other people's posts.

@Lauence-Monk The screeching audio is easy to explain, VP20 doesn't support AC3 audio so not technically a bug although it seems more sensible to not load the audio track then have it screech.

Edit: I had forgotten I think there's some sort of hack to return AC3 audio if you have an older Vegas that supports it. I am guessing this is the reason the track is loaded and screeches. When you add the files required to decode AC3 the audio will probably work fine (based on previous posts about previous Vegas versions)

EricLNZ wrote on 1/27/2023, 8:20 PM

VP20 doesn't support AC3 audio

Is that correct? My understanding is that for a few years now Vegas has been using Windows components to decode Dolby AC-3. But only two channel, not five. Lauence's media info indicates two channel.

If it is correct then VP20 may be unsuitable for many users as AC-3 audio is still common, at least with consumer AVCHD cameras.

Former user wrote on 1/27/2023, 8:29 PM

@EricLNZ Pretty sure you're right, 5.1 AC-3 does screech, but screeching has been reported for other audio codecs too. The posts I was recalling was about re-enabling 5.1 AC-3

Dexcon wrote on 1/27/2023, 9:44 PM

The posts I was recalling was about re-enabling 5.1 AC-3

That is covered in point 31 in VEGAS Pro FAQs and TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDES with a link to:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/ac3-pro-render-missing-in-vp14--103633/?page=8#ca670361

It relates to the Dolby AC3 Pro feature that last came with Vegas Pro 13:

  • The Dolby AC-3 Pro encoder was removed in VEGAS Pro 14. If you have VEGAS Pro 13 and DVD Architect installed, you can enable the encoder in VEGAS Pro 14, 15 and 16 (but not later versions)

Former user wrote on 1/28/2023, 4:21 AM

EricNZ yes it does, but apparently not for Lauence, so he should open a thread about his multiple problems if he hasn't already

It's importing ok on my end... my gut is telling me it's those GPUs, definitely older than recommended spec... perhaps a driver update might help? Worth a shot.

Many thanks (both you and Illusion) for testing. I've since had the chance to test on my girlfriend's laptop on the same build, and the files open fine. Interestingly the point Vegas crashes for me is the point my girlfriend's laptop activated the MainConcept MPEG 4 codec.

Here's what I've now tried. None of it worked, but it may save others troubleshooting time if they have the same problem. I'll stick with 214 for now and give the next update a go when it comes out.
