Vegas Pro 22 build 194 hangs on startup.

I just upgraded from version 21. The installation appeared to work just fine, but when I start the program it gets as far as "Initializing UI" and... that's it. It just hangs there permanently.

I'm running Windows 11 with 64Gigs of memory and a powerful graphics card. Vegas Pro 20 and 21 both worked just fine. Not so version 22. Doesn't run at all.

@ernie-tamminga have you tried RESETTING Vegas Pro?

Vegas 22.192 does not get the 4:3 display right. Nonsense is interpreted. It works very well in Vegas 21.315.
What is the problem?

@snibchi1 I am not seeing that here. I've had the project settings set to 1920x1080 and was able to crop to 720x592 without issue in the Pan/Crop. Also, changed the Project settings to 720x592 and the results were obviously correct.

The only thing I can think of to test this fully is to have a sample of your footage to download.

Thank you very much. Here to download a small excerpt (my NAS sleeps between 0 and 08 am German time).

The video is very old (1998) and should be de-noised and de-shaken.

@snibchi1 thanks for the link. I am in CET just like you. I tried the link and the connection was timed out. If you have a sample footage you can upload to the cloud, like Google Drive if you have a Gmail account, that might be better for downloading the file.

@snibchi1 thanks. I was able to download the file. Initially, I got the same results as you. Squished video. But I did get it to display and play back properly.

Here is a screenshot of it with VP22 B194 and the settings I used in Preferences>File I/O. @set or @RogerS can you pass this up the "food chain"? This file plays perfectly fine with my AMD GPU in Magix Video Pro X14 and Magix Movie Studio 2024 Suite without any changes to the GPU setting.

Also to try on a computer other than an AMD one. Thanks!

I saw the same problem on my laptop with Vegas 22 b 194, look at this screenshot with all default preferences

But after only one chqnge at File/IO I see this

@j-v, I tried that and still it didn't work. It might be one of those AMD GPU issues. If the Hardware Decoder is set to AMD, even with Enable Legacy AVC Decoding, Vegas will crash immediately to desktop. I have to have it set to OFF.

The new mxcompoundplug.dll applied the pixel aspect ratio wrong.

Reverting back to so4compoundplug.dll decoding by 'Enable Legacy AVC Decoding' works:

This may be a different issue because there is a possibility that DRM copy protection may apply to .m4v media. From Wikipedia:

The M4V file format is a video container format developed by Apple and is very similar to the MP4 format. The primary difference is that M4V files may optionally be protected by DRM copy protection.

Apple uses M4V to encode video files in its iTunes Store. Unauthorized reproduction of M4V files may be prevented using Apple's FairPlay copy protection. A FairPlay-protected M4V file can only be played on a computer authorized (using iTunes) with the account that was used to purchase the video. [1] In QuickTime, M4V videos using FairPlay DRM are identified as "AVC0 Media".

What is the source of the M4V files? Also Bandicam?

Puhh... The video is from 2002. I had a Hi8 camera. I can't remember the type. There's no copy protection on it.
