Vegas Pro 22 won't run after last nights windows update.

Karl-Demer wrote on 9/17/2024, 3:11 PM

After the recent windows update, Vegas Pro 22 will not run. When I try to start Vegas, I get a spinning wheel for about a second, then nothing. Watching Task Manager while doing this, I see a bump in activity in Anti Malware Service Executable each time I click on the Vegas icon to try and launch. I suspect Windows isn't allowing it to run. I have a huge edit deadline on a documentary so I'd appreciate a solve for this quickly.

Simply just uninstall that last update or Role back Windows update to the previous version..

@Karl-Demer I had a problem this morning too. But don't know what caused it. Going here, downloading & running vc_redist.x86 and vc_redist.x66, and selecting the Repair option fixed things for me:

Have you tried to back off "last nights update"?

Look in Windows Reliability History for more details about the issue:

Karl-Demer wrote on 9/17/2024, 3:41 PM

It was the "Windows Configuration Update (KB5035942)" update that seems to have caused the issue.

Windows won't let me roll it back.

Howard, I have tried your suggestion and was hopeful but it didn't work for me.

@Karl-Demer Just checked my update list and Windows Configuration Update (KB5035942) is successfully installed today also but vp22 is now working for me. Did you do both the x86 and x64 repairs?? I ran them both.

Karl-Demer wrote on 9/17/2024, 4:11 PM

Howard, yes, I tried repairing both. I just tried uninstalling both and reinstalling too. Still no luck.

Howard-Vigorita wrote on 9/17/2024, 4:15 PM

@Karl-Demer Only other thing I've done today besides uninstalling vp22 and reinstalling a bunch of times before trying the redistr update was to update OBS which was also affected... to v30.3.2.

Karl-Demer wrote on 9/17/2024, 4:23 PM

Howard, bless you!!! I don't have OBS on my machine but I do have LiveStream Studio which also uses C++ Redistributable... Installing the update for that also fixed the vegas launch issue! You are a life saver!

Wayne-Mebane wrote on 9/17/2024, 5:07 PM

I did the repair of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable both x86 and x64, reboot, and now Vegas 22 is opening. Appreciate your Howard!

That's strange, KB5035942 installed on my Win11 23H2 back in April?

Thanks Howard. Your suggested fix worked for me. Never would have figured that out in a million years.

My 5035942 installed on 27/03/24 (win 11) and I installed the C++ total combined package -2005 onwards in August. Then installed V22 in September with no issues.

It looks like the C++ fix worked for me as well (Windows 11 system). Thanks, Howard!

All of a sudden, no Vegas Pro version would open on my desktop. I followed the advice above re MS C++ and OBS. Only when both were done and the computer rebooted would Vegas Pro open again. Thank you @Howard-Vigorita - how you found these actions is genius.

The exact same issue happened to me today, but indeed installing both x64 and x86 fixed it for me. I am eternally grateful for the provider to this solution!

This thread saved me too. Again. On my laptop vp22 worked fine before running the 23h2 cumulative update. Would not start afterwards till I ran the x86 and x64 permalinks for the latest version vc_redistr, v14.42.34433.0 on the same official Microsoft Learn page mentioned earlier:
