The restructuring of Magix apparently didn't go well.

@pierre-k Says who? AI ?
That being said, the silence, absence, nor hints on a future update, fuels gloomy speculations of the future of Vegas Pro...

Yeah, all a bit worrying, TBH

I've used it (often begrudgingly) for my 20 year career and it's disheartening that they might be on their last legs with Vegas development. I wish a small competent team picked it up and was able to polish/optimize it and give it fresh life

I'm not fearful of the future. VEGAS has a dedicated, hard working team behind it.

Dear @Steve_Rhoden, I know you're still in that so called Beta-section, pls tell them the very two requests of mine since more than 6 years:

  • the correct color space and its tool for HDR;
  • the right signal for the 2nd HDR-display.

If they can't fulfill then pls withdraw it from their advertisement.

Whenever I close Vegas Pro, the error report message keeps popping up. It says the problem is caused by MS Visual C++ 14.50 (v145).

andyrpsmith wrote on 2/15/2026, 12:32 PM

@Jason-Edades I think your system needs sorting out as this is not normal. Looks like the MS Visual C++ currently installed is corrupted, the wrong version or something else may have installed the wrong version. Have you installed the fix posted elsewhere on this forum?

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

@andyrpsmith, @Jason-Edades,

In my experience, the latest version is now OK and can be installed over the older (defective) 14.50 versions, right?

(In which scenarios would the fix from this thread still be necessary?)

But offers to buy a new 23 Vegas come by email every other day! .. seriously? This looks really funny.

I am having problems with the Explorer Window in Pro 23. Sometimes when I drag a picture clip to the timeline what appears on the timeline is completely different than what shows in the Explorer Thumbnail view. Sometimes after I save a project and the next day, I reopen the same project I get the "missing file" message, which corresponds to the name of the file I was dragging to the timeline. Also, the explorer does not automatically refresh itself. Even if I right click and select refresh it does not work. Usually, I have to navigate to a different folder and then back to the folder of my content to get it to refresh.

Doing some research, I read that Vegas is supposed to create a File Explorer Thumbnail folder and put the thumbnails there on in another folder called Cache in the Appdata/Local/Vegas Pro/23 folder. The File Explorer Thumbnail folder exists, but it is always empty. The cache folder does not exist.

Don't know what is happening here.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

@gcg There are a few things to consider:

1) do you have a slow HD, (and not a fast SSD), perhaps that is an issue

2) your drive maybe is turned down (asleep) and needs to wake up.

3) your Appdata folder is duplicated and Vegas updates the wrong one (could happen if you have a clouddrive like MS OneDrive)

4) corrupt project (most likely)

Remedies:

  • After opening your project and fixing your stuff, manually save your project under a different name. then close Vegas and open the new project.
  • Change your preference setting (general tab) and tick "close media files when not the active application"
  • Disable scanning of Vegas related stuff and folder in your anti-virus program (make an exclusion)

This happens most often when preferences are exported from one version of Vegas, like vp22, and imported to a later version like vp23, if path-names are embedded into the export. Similar problems if setups are moved that way from one machine to another. The cache path being used is shown at the bottom of the general preferences screen and can be fixed there. Can also be remedied by a Vegas reset on startup, checking the box to delete cached files. And then putting preferences back into vp23 manually with Vegas preference screens. This approach is better because it'll also fix other cross-linked path names like Vegas window layouts.

To Bitman:

Thanks for your suggestions. I know my hardware is good to go with NVMe 2TB drive. No duplicate AppData folder. Followed your recommendations under Remedies. I'll let you know. Thanks

To Howard-Vigorita:

This was a clean install of 23 without any preferences or other projects imported. I'll do the reset and see if it helps. Thanks.

Where do I find the duplicate AppData folder?

gcg wrote on 3/1/2026, 10:33 PM

I use the free "Everything" program to find anything. Bitman was not specific as to its location but use Everything and you will find it if it is there. Put out by VoidTools.

As to my situation, I have reverted to just using the Project Media Bin and stop using the explorer. I was never able to get the problem solved. But using just the Project Media Bin has worked and the thumbnails are not getting messed up.

bitman wrote on 3/2/2026, 2:19 AM

@gcg @Jason-Edades Some clarification on duplicate folders as I was not clear on that: a few years back I moved my "documents" folder to Microsoft OneDrive. Although it went well, somehow this lead to a situation I have two "Documents" folders. One that most programs use by default (the one in OneDrive) including Vegas (C:\Users\"username"\OneDrive\Documents\...) and the old one: (C:\Users\"username"\Documents\...).

The hidden "AppData" is not duplicated as it was not moved into OneDrive (maybe I should). But unfortunately some Vegas stuff is still stored (and actively used) under the old Documents folder location such as Vegas\Vegas Contend. Quite a few other programs still insist on using the older Documents folder as I assume it is considered a default folder unless explicitly changing the location of documents during install (which is not always possible).
I had the change the mapping of Vegas store location as well on new Vegas installs as I noticed that for example some presets (If I can recall correctly FX text) were wrongly saved on the old documents location. It is sometimes a bit of a mess I know!

Enter %appdata% at the top of Explorer and you will see where your APPDATA folder is located. Usually, this is not located in the Documents folder, but in the Users folder.

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this is a silly question.

I was wondering if there’s any news about an upcoming update to Vegas 23?

I’ve just finished my first project since moving over from Vegas 22. Overall, things are going well, but I’ve noticed some issues that seem like stability problems.

For example, I’ve been working with a lot of clips on my timeline. Sometimes, when I move a clip to the timeline, cut it in a specific area, and then move that cut section around, it plays parts of the video that aren’t actually in the cut area—or it jumps between random fragments of the clip. It’s really bizarre.

Also, when I transferred a clip with unusual dimensions (e.g., 1677x862), it automatically cropped part of the video without me even using the Pan/Crop function.

Has anyone else run into anything like this before?

RogerS wrote on 3/20/2026, 9:40 PM

Video shouldn't have any odd pixel dimensions. Could you share MediaInfo for it? Maybe there are other oddities Vegas isn't reading properly.

Or will they release Vegas Pro 24 and end support? There has only been one update so far.
