Vegas pro crashes everytime I click the 'render' button

JoshiStitic wrote on 9/3/2020, 12:29 AM

I am aware this issue has been raised before.

But I have spent a total of three days on this issue and it is beginning to annoy me, this is my last hope.

The error details are bellow, and something to consider, projects which I have successfully rendered in the past are refusing to render now so that shows it isn't because of the source file, although if you're wondering, I use the iPhone format (not HVEC or whatever, I use the compatibility option)

I rendered a project successfully just 2 weeks ago, but now it is refusing to work. I'll attach a screencap of the project right before it crashes but I don't think it'll be of any significance.

When it worked before, try first to do a full reset of the program following this : https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

Nope, still crashing, even after doing that

j-v wrote on 9/3/2020, 5:11 AM

My last idea, look if there was since the last time it went well a Windows update that changed things as installed driversor so.
If there was and you can roll back to a restorepoint before the change, try it.

I got that error all the time. Then one day I didn't get the error. I noticed that when I could get the Render dialog to open without error, there was an HEVC media in the media bin (1920x1080). Then I discovered that as long as an HEVC media had been in the media bin, I could continue without it in the project, and the Render dialog would open up anyway without error. I also found that as long as I didn't exit Vegas Pro 18, I could create additional projects without the need for the HEVC media to be in the media bin again. Somehow, the first instance of an HEVC media in the media bin after Vegas Pro 18 opens triggers an action that allows the Render dialog to open -- for at least me.

Intel Core i7 10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz (to 4.65GHz), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8GBytes. Memory 32 GBytes DDR4. Also Intel UHD Graphics 630. Mainboard: Dell Inc. PCI-Express 3.0 (8.0 GT/s) Comet Lake. Bench CPU Multi Thread: 5500.5 per CPU-Z.

Well that's strange, My vegas wont even accept HEVC video clips,

@JoshiStitic - This isn’t good. OK, Start a set/series of Aggressive/Regressive Testing.

1) Reboot PC

2) Start a fresh VP Project in Factory Reset.

3) Name it Test1

4) Close VP.

5) Restart PC.

6) Open Test1.

7) Select one short piece of Video Media, acquire and take note of its MediaInfo and ADD to Timeline.

8) Have VP MATCH your Project Settings to THAT Media. Do you know how to do it?

9) Save Test1.

10) Close VP.

11) Restart VP and open Test1.

12) Now, try to Repro your Error. What happens?

By reboot PC do you mean remove everything and reinstall windows or restart?

We are getting somewhere.

Q1 Did you match the Project to the Media?

Q2 What are the Project Settings Now?

Grazie wrote on 9/6/2020, 12:36 AM

Q3 Did you use MediaInfo Utility to acquire the Media Information?

Grazie wrote on 9/6/2020, 12:37 AM

Q4 What Device/Camera did you use to acquire that MP4?

JoshiStitic wrote on 9/6/2020, 12:38 AM

Q1 ans: Yes, the way i did it was when i put the clip in it sent a dialogue asking me if i wanted to do that, and I clicked yes.

Q2: My project settings are: 360x360x32 @22.000p

Q3: No, i used VLC media player to find the media information

Grazie wrote on 9/6/2020, 12:44 AM

Q1 - Use the Project Settings Match Media Button to confirm the Project is set. What do you get? Post a ScreenGrab.

Q2 - Understood.

Q3 - Please use MediaInfo Utility. It will gives us far more information than VLC to assist you. Once you’ve used that Report back here.

@JoshiStitic - Ah, we are getting somewhere. Now get us that media information from the MediaInfo Utility. It’s free and you will make use of it in the future too.

The problem here is VegasCreativeSoftware managing the expectations of its Customers. Meaning, because VP is very Media agnostic, we believe VP can ingest anything. That’s the Problem, it’s actually a Problem of Success. OK, get us that MediaInfo? Please?

Grazie wrote on 9/6/2020, 1:10 AM

We cross posted.... OK, looking at that MediaInfo information there’s not much I recognise that CP would. But I could be wrong.

I now want you to check out that the Render process “works” on a known to VP piece of media. Start a Fresh Project and save as Project2. Add some VP Generated Media, anything Text, Solid Colour, whatever and hit Render. And the result is....?

JoshiStitic wrote on 9/6/2020, 1:11 AM

Well I don't think the media is the problem, I did a test where i just took a default gradient that was built into Vegas pro and it still didn't render, plus I used just jpg and png pictures and tried to render too, still not rendering

Grazie wrote on 9/6/2020, 1:18 AM

Well I don't think the media is the problem,

@JoshiStitic - Well, we’ve eliminated that as a potential cause then. This is good.

I did a test where i just took a default gradient that was built into Vegas pro and it still didn't render, plus I used just jpg and png pictures and tried to render too, still not rendering.

@JoshiStitic - OK, force a manual change of Settings? Yup, this is serious! If you haven’t already done so, do a clean Reinstall of VP. Presently, I’m thinking that that old MP4 started a routine that has banjaxed Vegas, and has taken up residence.
