Vegas pro crashes everytime I click the 'render' button

I am aware this issue has been raised before.

But I have spent a total of three days on this issue and it is beginning to annoy me, this is my last hope.

The error details are bellow, and something to consider, projects which I have successfully rendered in the past are refusing to render now so that shows it isn't because of the source file, although if you're wondering, I use the iPhone format (not HVEC or whatever, I use the compatibility option)

I rendered a project successfully just 2 weeks ago, but now it is refusing to work. I'll attach a screencap of the project right before it crashes but I don't think it'll be of any significance.

I reinstalled vegas pro twice already, once just before this test, but if you insist I'll reinstall it again

Ummm, I'm not sure what this means, I think MPEG codec was installed when i put in the mp4 file, idk

A gray message window that appear saying 'connecting & activating 'something' ?

Ok - that's normal... hmm, well then I assume no additional codec is installed.

Well I just reinstalled and the same error comes up when trying to render a default solid color, I'm beginning to lose hope

@set - Yeah, I just researched our chum’s Honor8. Not straight forward. Looking at the MP4 Video specs I don’t see a match.

@JoshiStitic - Did you use the Video Camera on your Honor 8? Then, how do you import the Video from the H8?

See its complicated, I had the video uploaded onto youtube back in 2017, and I didn't have anything on my computer to use, so I downloaded it off my own channel using savefrom.net. It was never on my computer until just now

Oh everything except the render as button is working, the other day i was editing something for a BTEC project and that's how i found out everything except Render As... is working

Q5 - So, you generated a Video. How? On this Honor 8?

Q6 - You then uploaded that Video to YT. How?

Q7 - You then used a YT Downloader to get it back from YT. How?

Q8 - You’ve Imported this file into VP18Y and are now Playing that file on the VP18 Timeline. Yes?

Ok sorry, i had class, I am not using the steam copy, I am using vegas 365.

Yes the video was recorded on the Honor 8 using the selfie camera

I used the youtube mobile app to upload the video to youtube

I used savefrom.net, the youtube downloader, and got a video playback. I right clicked the playback and clicked save as.

Yes exactly, I can play the preview just fine

@JoshiStitic - No worries. Can you import any other Video content and Render As?

@JoshiStitic - OK, you’ve matched Media to Settings. Your settings still say 1920x1080 in Preview:

OK, I get that. Your Media is:

And your Media is 360x360.I get that too.

However, and I don’t know if this will affect the issues, but as this is a Render-Centric issue, please try and uncheck this Box:

I’ve never got a definitive enough direction on this, but VP may just be choking on all the Variables attempting to deal with that Media. Give it a go. 😉

Maybe I missed it, but you were saying that the program crashed as soon as you hit the render button, but did you also tried to use the render option in file?

@EricLNZ - Could be. I’m just wanting @JoshiStitic to firstly uncheck and see what happens. I’m not knowledgeable enough to know if just clicking on Render As will create this error. And sure, have Vegas create a 360x360 and let’s see that too.

Ok so i tried clicking the button but the error still came, also the video in my original screencap is not the same as the video i'm trying to render in my test project.

@set @j-v @JoshiStitic @EricLNZ - I’ve spent 5 hours on this and would truly love to see a resolution for our chum here 🤪

OK, to summarise:

1) A Video is shot on a HONOR 8 Phone. Encode 1

2) That Video is encoded and sent to YT. Encode 2

3) The Video most likely got a further encode to be viewed on YT. Encode 3

4) Sometime later that same Video is downloaded from YT using a downloader. Encode 4.

4) It is then placed on the VP T/L at which point Vegas gets busy busy and “attempts” to install a CODEC. This could be Encode 5 - maybe?

5) The adjust media to render is left switched on.

Now, good people, have I got anything incorrect here?

When you did the reset, are you sure you were able to place a checkmark next to "Delete all cached application data" and then click "Yes"? Several cases on the forum when this was overlooked. (Your render did work before?)
