VEGAS Pro Feature Requests

@RogerS  ... On a numeric keyboard, Shift+up arrow key increases the waveform on the audio event incrementally with each Shift+up arrow keystroke. Shift+down arrow key will reduce the waveform size incrementally back to its original size. On a laptop, it's Shift+PgUp/PgDn. On my computers anyway.

However, I do prefer how its done in SoundForge Pro which is Ctrl+mouse scroll wheel.

Thank you, that is good if you are only using audio that's too low. If some audio is very low and some normal you will have to choose between which one you see, which doesn't help with syncing by eye. I agree it's helpful if they aren't that far off, so thanks for teaching me about this feature.

It's not possible to decrease the audio below it's original size which means for 32-bit float audio at say +30db, all you'll see is a clipped waveform. More info an 32-bit files in this thread.

This is a waveform after reducing volume by 30db (see- no peaking on playback) and after hitting shift-down (which does nothing as it can't decrease the waveform below the original).

This is a feature request thread, so my request is to change the way waveforms are displayed to be dynamic and respond to volume Fx, and otherwise be more usable.

Maybe something stupid , but it would be great if there would be a search in the FX window on the timeline

It is in the FX window tab but not in the FX on the timeline

I most of the time use the fx from there ....

What do you mean by this? Windows settings doesn't affect it. The render templates include options for CPU encoding and GPU encoding (QSV, VCE, NVENC) where available.

I mean is to what GPU to use to render or encode a video something like that-
Like in Windows Settings, you set a game to high performance, it will run with your high performance GPU.

That actually isn't how Vegas works. Vegas isn't game software. You can set Windows or NVIDIA control panel to use Vegas with the high-performance GPU, though I'm not sure that does anything as long as your graphics card is showing up in Vegas.

You can see whether Vegas is using the GPU on the preferences/video tab and file i/o for GPU decoding for supported media. Finally, you can select whether you want GPU encoding for rendering based on your render template. While fast, GPU encoding can be lower quality than CPU, so for rendering it is best for users to have a choice. If you have multiple GPUs (most Intel processors has an integrated GPU), users can also select whether to use it for overall acceleration, decoding or rendering. Default today is Intel for decoding for greatest compatibility, and the dedicated GPU for overall acceleration. Which to use for rendering is up to you.

3. Proper compound clips within the same project instead of the nested multiple timelines which always feel a bit clunky.

+1 to David Johns. I think it is called composite shots (compositing) - would be nice to have to make a cleaner timeline, correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know if this has already been said, but the explorer tab could use a built-in search function like when I'm trying to find the right sound effect.

  • Stability. I get hard lockups. Everything is up-to-date driver wise. My computer is stable. I rarely if ever get crashes in other software. I realize this is generic and difficult to diagnose, but stability is the most important thing for a piece of software.
  • Speed. Focus on making the process of editing fast in how the software works as well as how much clicking and such it takes to do a task.
  • The ability to disable project media scrubbing. I've learned to drag from the filename, but it's still a hassle for a feature I never use. It slows down the type of editing I do.
  • Have longer term caching of previews in the project media window, at least as an option. Especially for PNGs, JPEGs, and other sources that never change. This lags my editing flow because the previews keep re-generating when I scroll the window. I don't care if there are 100 files in a folder. There also seems to be some type of threading issue where priority of thumbnail generation takes precedence over what I'm doing in the timeline. That's not cool.
  • Make the audio sync tool functional. I haven't been able to get it to sync anything correctly. That was a big reason I bought version 18.
  • The eFX VocalStrip filter makes a pop noise when I apply it on a track level at the start of the video and between clips. It's super irritating. I've been rendering out a clipped up audio track, but it still shows up at the start of the video. I have to fade in the audio a lot to get it to not show up.

I wish this all could be added to version 18, but yeah. I also understand making it fast and reliable doesn't seem like a good thing to invest development resources into from a marketing standpoint, but I think it could pay off in the long run.

This year I started using the "Takes" feature a lot.

It's very handy for combining multiple events into one, but the biggest flaw is that's only possible via RMB events dragging from project media tab to timeline.

Dragging one event over another in the timeline using RMB only gives options for Move, Copy, or Shuffle.

It would be great to have the option of "add an event as take" via RMB straight on the timeline.

Modify the 'Search for Missing Files' window that appears when you load a veg file and an element is not immediately found so that you can configure the search order to look in the drive you prefer first. This will save time when you have multiple drives.

Keyframe controller rows are too narrow. If a parameter value is outside the viewing area (which can occur in the Titles & Text plugin), its keyframe control point disappears off the controller display for that parameter. The rows can't be resized so the control point can't be accessed (for instance, to change its interpolation curve).
I would love the ability to increase the row size.

[Feature Request] Ripple Edit Ripple edit is great, when you remember to switch it on and off as required. Many times I have forgotten to switch it off then damaged work in progress before having to go back and undo some steps. It would be really good to have a much more obvious warning about the status of ripple edit. How about something like the attached image, where the timeline background changes colour (with adjustable colour of course!). Ed

Some few OFX UI I've made for VEGAS Pro. Just the same FX from VEGAS Effects. But you get the point these FX are standards in other NLE (Premiere, davinci, FCPX).

Some say this FX are fancy, but it used alot in current day editing styles.

Also, VEGAS are used to known for "newbies" or "Youtuber/Gamer" due to its easy phase editing, but now I can see these people (Gamer/YT) massively switching to PR all because of these fancy FX.

I can list out more FX like luma keying, anamorphic lens flares, cartoon and so on.

for the IDT OFX, I started to use ACES quite frequent lately as it just simply bypass the heavy correction part. Assigning each clip color spaces is a bit pain. with FX level IDT, I can just applied on the video track & transform bunch of clips easily.

I have always had a great time with the titler, but I suffer from a small lack. Would it be possible to implement, in a subsequent version, the possibility of inserting logos in png or jpeg in credit rolls? Or is there already a way to do it but I can't do it? Usually I put the logos at the end of the titles, after the credit rolls, but I would very much like to be able to insert them inside them. Thanks everyone for your attention.

@solarisv - Have you explored Nested Timelines?

Grazie wrote on 3/11/2021, 1:14 PM

Simple one from me: KeyStroke for Collapse Selection - I need this.

Grazie wrote on 3/11/2021, 1:21 PM

And now a more Complex one: What we really need are changes in Vegas's OFX implementation to improve Third Party Plug efficiency. For example, attempting to use BORIS MochaPro back in VP gives me glacial framerates. Been wanted and waiting for far too long.

Add MediaInfo within Vegas Pro so users can quickly see exactly what media they are dealing with. Include as a tab under properties for a piece of media. Other software (MPC Player) has it embedded, so perhaps Vegas can too.
