@Bria It's a limitation of your keyboard, not Vegas. @Gid has explained how to get what you want.

It made me go searching for the other available codes which I've bookmarked for future use https://www.alt-codes.net/

Actually I usually use Windows' Character Map found under Windows Tools. This has the advantage that it shows me the characters/symbols available for the font I'm using. Probably you are already aware of this.

@Gid: I don't have a numeric keypad.

@EricLNZ: No, there is nothing wrong with my keyboard, Logitech K810; 'Video Mediator Generators -> Vegas Titles & Text' is broken.

How to type euro symbol on a UK keyboard

: Alt Gr + €

It works in the rest of Vegas:

But not in 'Video Mediator Generators -> Vegas Titles & Text' - Please fix.

@Bria EricLNZ isn't saying there's something wrong with your keyboard, he means keyboards in general.

Vegas Titles & Text' is broken

Titles & text isn't broken as such, it's just that the shortcut Alt + Ctrl + 4 (Alt GR + 4) is already in use.

Try this,

  • Go to Options - Customize Keyboard.
  • Type 'edit' in the box (without the quotations 😉), choose Global & scroll to the bottom of the list,
  • Remove the keyboard shortcut in the box so the space is blank, click OK.

Alt GR + 4 now works, Alt + Ctrl + 4 also works.

@Bria What keys are on a keyboard depends upon the language and location it was designed for.

Getting Offtopic - not having a numeric keypad, that's a pity. I use mine frequently with Vegas for precise editing.

New request. An option to set the default crossfade type for both video and audio. In old VP versions it could be partly set in Internal Preferences. It would be preferable to have these as easily available options in Preferences/Editing.

I've edited plenty of commercials from TVC, Online web, corporate, social media and some long-form as offline editor, online artist and even as colorist, here are my suggestion or request on VEGAS software.

I firmly believe that VEGAS Pro till to date has the best timeline logic. The way it uses "audio track" sense for video, how you move play head around just by clicking, how you merge between 2 events together become a crossfade transition, not a destructive cut, and how you Paste an event in timeline, it will smart enuf to think where to paste based on cursor placement. Unlike others, you gotten ensure which layer is set to active for targeted pasting. It just so much easier to move things around. Using VEGAS, editor creative input is not being interrupted on "how do I use this software", all that creative thinking process are actually spent on the cut itself.

I think VEGAS is perfect for offline editor. I'm talking about professional offline editors that cut high budget TVC that involved AG, Client & Director. In professional realm, VEGAS just need to get these 2 tools working for it to get a spot again in high-end production house.

Being able to export XML/EDL as well as batch export individual clip. (It's there but not functioning properly, broken)

And

Being able to export OMF/AFF for audio house. (I recall asking this in this forum and turns out VEGAS cant do this)

Offline editor task is to get the offline cut approved and shoot out all elements for online and re-assemble the assets back for final delivery.

I think Magix/VEGAS paid alot of money for Prores codec, it would be such a waste if that codec is not put to actual use on a actual, proper editing project.

I think these 2 request shud not be difficult for our amazing DEV to codes or fix it, unless it required some license etc 😬

Additional*

I think most of VEGAS user still rely on pluraleyes for audio sync, this is also considered major tool that is already bone stock standard on others since idk how long. Nowadays lot of things are done natively inside the software instead of using 3rd Party Plugins.

More smooth text transitions would greatly improve the speed of production delivery.
Possible transitions of on-screen image elements like RedGiant's Universe: Logo Motion.

Applying effects simply to PNG or any other on-screen element. Effects like emerging from right to left, top to bottom, emerging from the center... smooth and practical movement. This would help produce transitions, logo reveals, and other creatives quickly and efficiently.

I like to use native tools without applying third-party plugins, as the whole process is usually easier and faster to execute.

(I don't know if any scripts have already been created to do this via keyframes...)

Reyfox wrote on 12/29/2025, 9:53 AM

Text can be animated with keyframes. Yeah, more time involved, but it can be done. It has been mentioned that a new titler is on the "to do" list. I just hope it will not take long. Right now, I also have NBFX Titler Pro 7 and Boris FX Continuum 2026 Title Studio if I need something more "special".

Pinnacle Studio has something similar where you have Enter, Emphasis, and Exit presets with lots of customizing that can be done. A surprisingly pretty good built in title editor.

Unacceptable that VEGAS 23 still requires a set of external small programs to do some of its most basic functions:

"Reyfox wrote on 1/1/2026, 4:17 PM
what most of us use to see what a file "is", is MediaInfo. It is a tiny free software that we all have installed."
and
"Reyfox wrote on 1/1/2026, 7:28 PM
What MediaInfo does is show what your file is. If you want a file that will work with Vegas, you can always transcode the file to something Vegas loves with Shutter Encoder, another utility software everyone has in their editing toolkit." (Bold applied here)
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-23-build-302-general-discussion--149833/

At any Audio software that owns its pro title anyone may find all about the media at use by clicking on its "Information" (or similarly named) section inside its existing menus. Basic functionality.
Then, importing and converting audio files is an inherent capacity of audio editors. No one would dream to require additional software for this.

Why VEGAS does not include such functions when non profit, tiny developer companies actually do?

And then, if there are plausible, sensible reasons to not house such functions, why do not internally link those open source providers, so users directly find the required tools, instead of having to investigate this forum?

Reyfox wrote on 1/8/2026, 8:15 AM

@Cielspacing have you seen the clip attribute listing in Resolve? It certainly doesn't have the detail that MediaInfo has.

As for encoding media. There would be no need to do this, if editing software could handle that particular codec.

But alas, these little utilities exist because of that need. And not just with Vegas Pro. As to why Magix doesn't link to them, I don't think any editing software do. Should Magix link to them? Maybe. But the User Forum has been handling that "forever". Also, Magix would not link to them if they, for some reason, become malicious.

VEGAS includes some useful media information under properties (even more if you hold down shift while looking at it). We requested bundling MediaInfo years ago. ShutterEncoder, MPC, etc. do this. I've also seen suggestions of a transcode on import function for when VEGAS can't read a file. For licensing reasons (VEGAS is commercial software) you might have to download and point VEGAS to ffmpeg or other software but that would be very convenient.

walter-i. wrote on 1/8/2026, 10:28 AM

@Cielspacing @RogerS @Reyfox

Perhaps Magix could do the same for the external programs you mentioned as it does for the preferred audio editor.
Then Magix would only need to generate a few menu items and users could link to their desired program.
Magix would not be affected in terms of license fees—and we would have the option of accessing our options directly from Vegas.
If I understand correctly what you mean...

Reyfox wrote on 1/8/2026, 10:52 AM

@walter-i. and what if those programs outside of Magix contain something not beneficial? Where would that leave Magix legally? One year ago, UZ Utils, an open source library for compression/decompression that had a backdoor added by one of the maintainers compromised Linux distros and anything else using those libraries. MediaInfo is open source. There are lots of articles about open source being "attacked". Shutter Encoder uses a GPL 3 license .
