VP20 jerks while VP17 not

Andy, if you are using this system: "Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU," you don't have any AMD components so it's just using your CPU. The OP also can decode it fine with the GPU disabled.

If it's not this system, what is your AMD GPU model and is it newer than the R9-290X?

Hi Roger, this is what V17 gives me as options (below), I can choose AMD UVD and it works, if I choose Intel QSV V17 will crash.

The only GPU card I have is the 1080ti.

AMD UVD cannot work as you lack an AMD GPU or iGPU. It can pretend to work but then have the CPU do the decoding- see what's actually going on in Windows task manager/performance.

I uninstalled 17 long ago but apparently it doesn't properly check what GPUs are compatible?

I too stopped using 17,18 and 19 some time ago but keep all versions available to test various issues. Many thanks for the reply.

@andyrpsmith Not clear what cpu you have but 3rd gen Intel is pretty old and tended to have the hd 2500 igpu, if anything, which might not be supported very well by Vegas. Only Intel processor I have with Amd+Intel igpus is the i7-8809g. Either igpu decodes fine but overall performance is optimal with the Intel hd630 doing the decoding while letting the AMD VegaM do all the heavy lifting. Amd decoding has always worked for me with rx480 or later gpus. But Intel uhd630 or later is quicker if used in tandem for decoding while Iris and Arc decode more formats. It's just important to make sure that both Intel and Amd graphics driver installations are clean as a whistle.

Fwiw, I experience more driver issues lately with Nvidia + Intel on laptops than AMD/Nvidia + Intel on desktops. Or Nvidia + Amd on my Xeon where I'm still using an Nvidia 1660 for decoding with great success.

Hi Howard, the i5 has intel HD 4000 graphics which is always slower than the 1080Ti which I always use. My media is always Sony XAVCS 4K at 100mb/s. These options are identified in V20 and unlike V17 V20 does not crash if I select Intel QSV.
