Why is rendering slow?

1- Why does rendering use 2 percent of the CPU?

2- Why do video thumbnails disappear from the timeline?

3- Why does rendering continue intermittently? I'm having the same problems even when rendering a simple audio file. Why?

4- I bought all this equipment so I could do things quickly. What's wrong? What am I doing wrong?

Please provide information as requested in https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/

... especially which build of Vegas Pro 21 are you using? And what media are you using? - a MediaInfo report would be most helpful (the free app is linked to in C-1 in the above link).

Vegas Pro 21 has not been available to purchase from MAGIX for nearly one year - have your problems only appeared recently? If yes, has something changed on your computer in recent days that may have possibly caused a change in the behaviour in Vegas Pro 21?

Do you get normal results for one of the benchmarks in my signature?

As far as I'm aware VEGAS doesn't support the 10-bit 422 decoding the 5090 is capable of. Are you using such formats? I also think using two GPUs may not help or may cause issues (consider disabling one temporarily for testing purposes).

I'm having trouble with my current processor. My current processor is the best and fastest in the world. As you can see in the photo, Vegas is trying to render while my computer is completely asleep. What you mentioned doesn't matter. Vegas isn't using all the resources. Why?

RogerS wrote on 8/27/2025, 4:41 AM

@Mehmet-Src Vegas uses the resources it needs but there could be a bottleneck somewhere, like the media type or an Fx.

Feel free to try the benchmarks in my signature and I can say if the performance is worse than expected.

@Mehmet-Src

"My current processor is the best and fastest in the world"

But maybe not optimal for VP.

Very high cpu core count and so low ghz per core will result in lower rendering speed than say an 8 or 16 core cpu.

This may or may not change with vp23 if the multi thread count rendering is improved.

I'm having trouble with my current processor. My current processor is the best and fastest in the world.

@Mehmet-Src I had the exact same problem with my PC, my specs are the same although slightly lower & an older version.

Google -

Does the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX have integrated graphics?

No - the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX does not have integrated graphics. As a high-end workstation-class processor, it is designed for heavy professional workloads and requires a dedicated graphics card to provide a display output.

It sounds like you did as I did, you bought the PC parts that were the biggest & had the most expecting Vegas to wizz along at lightening speed. Sorry it doesn't work like that.

You have a strong & stable PC that will multi task without issues but it's not fast. IE. I can render at the same time with more than one editor, work in programs such as a photo editor or CAD while that render is going on &! have YT playing a video on my other screen. I've tested this & then closed all the other apps & tried rendering again with just one editor - the render speed didn't improve, Like Google & I say - stable but not fast.

Vegas's compatibility with RTX5090? I'm not sure about that, that GPU has popped up in the comments a couple of times. 🤷‍♂️

Why does rendering continue intermittently

The intermittent rendering is just something Vegas does, there's no fix for it, hopefully the Vegas team will do something about that. If you want better rendering speed & usage of your GPU buy Voukoder, that's what I use.

This is rendering a 1.40min UHD clip. Magix HEVC vs Voukoder.

Why do video thumbnails disappear from the timeline?

If I edit & then play... my thumbnails don't update until I press pause, I'm assuming it's a Vegas thing 🤷‍♂️ It can be a little frustrating but I zoom out & the thumbnails refresh. 🤷‍♂️

----------------

Mt PC, motherboard & CPU has a server history, 'strong & stable' but not fast. I'm not sure whether this still applies to your version..

--------

PS. I've grown to appreciate my PC. It may not be fast but it is fast enough & It never crashes or overheats even though it's on for days.

---------------

PPS.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX 96-Cores 2.50 GHz

2.50GHz isn't fast.

256 GB Ram

I went with 256GB of RAM because at that time I was also using Adobe that uses RAM for prerendering, I no longer have Adobe but the large amount of RAM does come in useful with Vegas's Dynamic RAM Preview.

There was a down side to choosing that amount tho, my PC motherboard will accept up to 3200 MHz DDR4, but to get 256GB I had to downgrade to 2666MHz,

I don't know what speed your RAM is?

@Mehmet-Src While we really could use you to give the info we're asking for I have another idea.

Another user got advice from support for surprisingly slow NVIDIA 50XX performance here- does this also help you? https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/upgraded-gpu-from-nvidia-3070ti-to-nvidia-5080-now-vp22-slow-crashes--149151/?page=2#ca939717

@Mehmet-Src You're getting Avg 169,00 fps & the Current speed is 234,21fps. That seems pretty fast to me, I don't know what speed other people get,.

Depends what AR etc. your project is...

I highly recommand you to use Davinci Resolve with your bad ass system. I can assure you will be super happy and say WOW,. You don't need to do any silly benchmark craps. Just throw in any footages, Davinci Resolve will eat it and spit it out like nothing. I assure you. Give Davinci a try with your beast of a system.

No need to disparage others' attempts to assist. Benchmarks can help understand what if anything is going on as there are many variables.

PugetSystems offers benchmarks for Resolve and Premiere I believe.
