GPU rendering with Pascals and Maxwells still makes the program crash. Tested some renders with a 950M and a 1070. Here's the result:

You should do something about this problem since you're promoting this " brand new " VP15 with features like: << Hardware acceleration from modern graphics cards and Intel QSV >> on the official product's page.

So that's why my 14 kept crashing randomly so often lately I guess. I have a 1070.

..Also, I keep thinking I have missed something with the PIP and Crop plugin features. I was sure we had that and more from the normal track composition and transform tools...

They are using something that the developers term "Video Preview interacts", which means you can work with their controls right on the preview window. I expect we will see more FX with that functionality in the future. Dare I say it, perhaps even a better titler?

I haven't installed VP15 yet, but there's nothing in the press release about adding support Panasonic's new UltraAVC codecs (well, new - it's been a while). So I'm guessing that's still not working?

It's working.

No, it's not. Just installed VP15 and none of the Panasonic Varicam files could be imported...

Sorry, I was assuming you were referring to the 10-bit 422 UHD files from the GH5, not Varicam files.

Old MainConcept AVC codec can be used in scripts (eg. standard Batch Render)

That is true. We've basically hidden the older codec in the render dialog as we consider it redundant.

This is a question for MagixDerek
I have a question about Legacy GPU setting in Options/Preferences and new MAGIX AVC/AAC encoding.
I am using an older Nvidia GTX570, which would be considered a legacy GPU.
Turning on Legacy GPU support in the Vegas Preference settings, does not reveal any different encoding options in the new Magix AVC/AAC encoder options.
Is this how it is meant to be or is it a bug?

Here is screen shot from Vegas Pro 14, with Legacy GPU setting turned ON:
Encoding Options = CPU, OpenCL or CUDA

Here is screen shot from Vegas Pro 15, with Legacy GPU setting turned ON
The only option is Mainconcept AVC
Is this normal behaviour in VP15 ?
Does turning on Legacy GPU setting actually do anything now or is now redundant?

Regards Derek (aka Dr Zen)

Reinstate the old MainConcept AVC encoder and legacy GPU rendering (alongside the new MAGIX AVC encoder) as follows:

1. Hold the SHIFT key while opening Options > Preferences to reveal the Internal prefences tab.

2. Set "Enable Mainconcept AVC/AAC Render plugin" to TRUE

3. In the General tab, check "Allow legacy GPU rendering"

Personally I think it's the right move to hide that encoder. Those supported GPUs are really old now, and yet another AVC encoder just adds to confusion. At least it's still there for those who want it.

Those of you encountering GPU rendering crashes on the new AVC codec, make sure you don't have any other plugins that utilize the GPU hogging too much of your VRAM. I had crashing issues until I told Neat Video to stop utilizing 100% of my available VRAM. Now NVENC assisted renders work great on my GTX 970.

I have a question about the new borders around events. Is there a way to turn these off again to reinstate the way it was in 12/13 and I believe also 14? In my opinion, the borders take up of 1/3 vertical space and that's kind of a waste of space.

joseph-w schrieb am 29.08.2017 um 07:50 Uhr
* The new event design makes no sense to me. From a certain track hight on downwards, it's not possible to grab the fade corners anymore. For that, the track needs to be much higher than it used to, as the active event part is now reduced to line 2 thirds of the track hight to make room for additional info that used to be embedded in the event. Why? It now also looks as if the alpha level bar is at the middle instead of at the top.

On that point I'm with you. The new design also wasts vertical space in the time line area. The new top part should be transparent and let the thumbs be visible in this area.

Is there any option to revert to the old design?

Absolutely a showstopper for me. I just realized the thumbs are practically invisible unless you make the track far too high to have a clean working space that lets you see all of your tracks. Working with the track hight I normally use, I now only see colored bars. Totally unusable.

Seriously, I wonder if the designers actually have to practically use and work with their design...

I signed up (After years of being a SVP customer) to third/fourth this.

You MUST get rid of the upper-third "opacity/FX" bar or whatever it is. It doesn't make any sense. I'm supposed to create crossfade envelopes that go above that and be mindful of accidently catching that line w/ my mouse everytime? What was wrong w/ the FX/Pan-Crop icons overlayed in the bottom right? Please add an option to remove that top-third bar (even if the only way to access FX/P&C would then be to right click).

I personally need an "Enable Legacy GUI" option in settings - even if only in internats. Nothing new has been added in terms of buttons/envelopes so I don't understand why everything is being remapped to poorer looking designs. The new colors for each track are also extremely distracting for me. That said I think if I could just turn off that opacity top third bar I might be able to fiddle w/ the colors enough to find a workflow solution for myself. The top bar forces you to make tracks much higher to see thumbnails and also is in play everytime you do a crossfade.....it'll force errors on me.

Great job on the speed/under the hood stuff. I had some old MiniDV caps that wouldn't open properly in V14 (black screen) that work great in V15. Much faster timeline transitions and rendering speed is doubled w/ my GTX 960 (if I upgrade to V15 after the trial I'll prob also update the card now that there's reason).

Please don't lose me on some graphical changes. "Showstopper" is a great word though. Hope you can assist.

Not seeing huge difference other than the obvious dark theme. Otherwise looks much the same.

Couldn't install without crash until I Program gave error indicating I needed to install net framework, which was already installed. Renaming my VST folders (which work fine in 14) enabled 15 to boot but I need most of my VSTS to be available, especially since they are fine in all other programs. Why can't Vegas just skip the problematic ones with booting next time?

May have to pass, after really looking forward to a new version.

For some reason my GFX960 isn't showing up in the list in V15? Although it is showing in V14.

V15:

V14:

Are you running the latest drivers?

Yes I updated the Nvidia driver 385.28 just a couple of days ago. It's weird that it's showing up in version 14 though.

My GTX 1080 didn't initially show in V15,whilst it did in V14. Updating the Drivers in Control Panel fixed this, but even then a render which took 29 mins without acceleration came down to just 26 min - this is with the new Magix codec.
As usual though, New Blue Titler crashes as soon as opened - did before and after new GPU Drivers.

How do I access the internal options?

Peter_P schrieb am 29.08.2017 um 10:23 Uhr

Press 'Ctrl+Shift' when selecting Options/Preferences with the mouse.

altarvic schrieb am 29.08.2017 um 10:28 Uhr

Pressing only Shift also works

OndrejPopp schrieb am 29.08.2017 um 10:29 Uhr

Ok, thanks going to try this.

Ok, I tried it. This works somewhat but the border remains the same, so I would need something like "Default Border Height" or a boolean "Draw Border"

OndrejPopp schrieb am 29.08.2017 um 11:15 Uhr

An other thing I just noticed is that the envelopes do not respect the border at all, and so your envelope goes straight to the top of the track accros the border like it would not even be there... which is ofcourse counter intuitive, so the envelopes do not like the border too

OndrejPopp schrieb am 29.08.2017 um 11:25 Uhr

In addition, I just saw where the 0 dB line lies in the audio track, not in the center of the waveform but in the center of the track including the border, and so this is kind of a mess isn't it?

It's the three horizontal lines appearing in Trimmer, Preview Window, Track Header and Events.

I think these are, this is the button with the three horizontal lines, at the right corner of an event where you can configure more buttons.

Having owned and used each and every Vegas since the good old 3 version it is interesting to experience the new 15 version.

I suppose that an upgrade offer will pop up in my mail box some day - and I will buy the upgrade - as always, to support future Vegas development.

2 comments to the 15 version, however:

- I may get used to that the new version UI does not conform with an -else- indispensable Windows rule so that we can not any more draw sub-windows by pulling their upper frame border. Really a huge surprise - in my eyes this is as severe as when all countries in the EU suddenly would shift to driving on the left side of the roads...

- ... but it will take even longer to accept the space eating new event headers. They force me to continue using Vegas 14 - hoping and praying that the well proven in-event buttons might return in a future update (or upgrade). For many, many years it has been possible to access all the event possibilities just doing a right click - so there is no need to flood my timeline window with the hundreds of headers with hundreds of hamburger icons - please.

OndrejPopp schrieb am 29.08.2017 um 11:52 Uhr

Let's see if Magix can turn them off, the borders, in a patch.
