AddMercalli Automation – Vp17 Auto-Stabilization

Peter_P wrote on 10/31/2016, 3:41 AM

Hello together,

during Mai 2014 I wrote a Vegas pro custom command to automatically apply Mercalli 2.0 FX to video event and let it be analyzed. In September 2015 these functions have been adapted to the Mercalli v4 FX. Now that Vegas pro 14 is available, I enhanced this automation tool and added some features.

You now may select a preset or use the tuned settings of an event that already has adapted setting to be applied to the next events. Specify the number of events to add the Mercalli v4 FX and let it automatically be analyzed.

The Remap Mode ‘Cubic’ provides the best quality results. However, it requires a lot of power and may result in non real time preview. So you may change it in all Mercalli v4 events to ‘Linear’ or ‘Nearest’ during editing and change it back to ‘Cubic’ for final rendering.

You only may have one Mercalli stabilization FX on each event. If you want to use a pre Vegas pro 14 project with Mercalli 2.0 FX, use the ‘Remove Mercalli 2 FX’ to do so starting from the selected video event.

The AddMercalli_V4_2.01.zip file contains a brief description as a pdf and the two file that need to be copied to the ‘Application Extensions’ folder.

This tool is for free but with no obligation of any kind to me.

Edit 04Nov2016
The current functionality of V2.01 was adapted to be used with Vegas pro 13.

Edit 05Aug2019 V3.01
The tool was extended with some features and now can be used for the new event based Vegas Pro 17 stabilization. It can still be used for older MAGIX Vegas Pro versions, but will there only use the Marcalli v4 stabilization.

DJI Osmo Pocket clips are normally very smooth and may optionally be skipped. Detailed description can be found in the PDF of the ZIP file.

Edit 09Feb2020 V3.12

I have added two functions to AddMercalli_V4 ( & VEGAS Video Stabilization).

The VEGAS Video Stabilization already tries in 'Freeze motion' mode to reduce the 'additional Zoom' by selection the best fitting reference frame number. This is very close to the optimum, while on some footage the additional zoom may still be reduced a tiny bit. This is now easy possible with the newly added 'Reduce add. Zoom' in AddMercalli_V4 by n% and x-count of events, starting from the selected. Use '0' to apply this change to all following events with Freeze Motion stabilization.

On some static clips with non motion at all, it may be stabilized with the event 'Freeze Frame at Cursor' function. If this is applied, there should not be any other additional stabilization FX. The new version 3.12 skips events using this kind of stabilization.

Edit 24Mar2020 V4.01

The user interface was restructured and an Auto-Stabilization, that selects the parameter presets according to the scene content, is newly added. This can be used with the Vp17 internal stabilization FX or with the Mercalli V4 plugin starting from Vp14.

Edit 09Jun2020 V4.02

The user settings are now saved to an *.ini file and restored on next start.

Detailed description can be found in the PDF contained in the ZIP file.

Klasse von dir !!!

Leider aber bekomme ich es nicht zum laufen.

Ich wollte es so machen: ... must be copied to the folder : "C:\ProgramData\VEGAS Pro\Application Extensions\".

Quitter wrote on 10/31/2016, 9:26 AM

you must unlock the dll

alessandro-c wrote on 11/2/2016, 4:44 AM

Thank you for your add-in. I used it in Vegas 13 and I found it very useful. Unfortunately neither your extension, nor the similar function in Vegasaur have a CMOS Fixr automation. It could be VERY useful!

Peter_P wrote on 11/2/2016, 8:06 AM

Hi Alessandro,

up to now I had no need to use the CMOS Fixr and therefore did not concider to write an automation for that FX. For what kind of footage do you need it ?

alessandro-c wrote on 11/2/2016, 8:26 AM

Thank you for your answer, Peter_P.

My footage are shaky HDV and shaky AVC clips with various CMOS camcorders.

I usually stabilize the clips in batch mode with the stand alone Mercalli app, with excellent results, and I think that what makes Mercalli greatly superior to standard Vegas stabilization is CMOS Fixr.  Sometimes, when some clips are very shaky, I do a second pass with good old Virtualdub Deshaker.

I would like to do a batch stabilization with Mercalli (stabilizr + fixr) inside Vegas.

Thanks, I'll have a second lock at the CMOS Fixr. If I feel I'll need it, I'll write an automation - but surely not in the next weeks.

I was asked to make the current Version of AddMercalli_V4 also availabe for Vegas pro 13. See top of thread.

There is a new version of Mercalli v4 (Version 4.0.477.1) which should be down loaded from the proDAD or Magix account and installed to make Mercalli v4 usable with Vp15. The AddMercalli_V4_2.01.zip (see top post) is also working with Vp15.

NickHope wrote on 8/28/2017, 11:32 AM

The older Mercalli v4 4.0.470.1 plugin is version-locked to VP14 and gives "invalid serial number" and a watermark in VP15, 13, 12 etc.. I can't find a link to this new version 4.0.477.1 in either my MAGIX or proDAD account. Anyone know a direct link?

Peter_P wrote on 8/28/2017, 11:39 AM

Did you try downloading the mercalli-40-vegas64bit.exe via your proDAD account? Unfortunately they do not have the version number in the filename.

I have contacted proDAD support about this updated version.

And the old one 9.43MB. Can you please clarify exactly where you downloaded it? Is there a URL you can share?

As mentioned in other posts the new version 4.0.477.1 (which is 12,3 MB here) doesn't help.

No, I was told one should use the link that was contained in the purchase confirmation mail.

Hello.  What a cool app, just what I need!  However, I have been trying to get Vegas Pro 14 build 270 to see the extension.  For some reason my extensions button is greyed and says "no extensions"  I added the folder Application Extensions where you stated (and tried several other locations) and pasted the extracted dll and png files.  I even did a CLEAN reinstall of everything.  I am very frustrated because I need to be able to batch render many stabilized clips after changing my frame rate.  Can you please give me some insight as to what could be wrong?  Is there an "enable extensions button" somewhere?  Thank you

Peter_P wrote on 9/21/2017, 10:46 AM

On my Win10 System the dll is installed at C:\ProgramData\VEGAS Pro\Application Extensions\

If this folder is not shown on your system, you should allocate it. In addition you might need to unlock the downloaded file see :

Peter_P wrote on 9/26/2017, 7:22 AM

On my current project I often had to change the parameter for one pan or event with motion and then set back the count and parameter for a fixed camera setting. To keep this setting and count fixed for the events behind the one with motion setting, I now added a button to just add one Mercalli FX to the next selected event.

Therefore I modified the interface slightly and added this button.

Details can be found in the also updated PDF in the zip file (see top of thread).
