Just installed Build 452. It still crashes as did previous versions when, while it's playing, I click on a clip and hit "delete." Am I doing this incorrectly, or is it something else?
Same here, V17 build 452. No crash when deleting a clip whilst it's playing. I remembered that this was a bug but couldn't remember if it had been fixed so I tried it (it's not an action I would normally do). It's obviously been fixed. I tried delete from the context menu as well as the Delete key, both the same, no crash. @Widetrack Are you sure you're running B452?
If you're using an Nvidia GPU make sure you're using the studio driver, not the game driver. I've also found that the 451.48 driver is much more stable with VP than previous versions
Make sure your cache folder is clean by deleting everything in C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\<version #> (delete everything with VP closed and use task manager to make sure it's really gone from memory). The initial startup will be kind of long after this cleaning but once it's up, restart VP again. Use task manager to make sure VP is completely gone from memory before starting it back up.
Try these tips too
Trim your project looking for fx combinations that cause problems. For example, Picture in Picture and Layer Dimensionality together are lethal on my machine
Now I have the same issue. Has anyone here found the proper fix? I looked at some of the suggestions listed here and they seem to be above my clear comprehension and I don't want to dive into a situation I don't know enough about.
How on earth?! If people still report this, OBVIOUSLY has not been fixed.
I think this is a matter of how computer handles Vegas' various processes - which I suspect are not exactly optimized. In my case, sometimes Vegas will crash on transitions, even the simple cross fade. But not always. Also, it will crash on deleting a clip while playing, but not always.
And stabilizer will mess with clips. But not always. Well, pretty much all the time.
@adimatis Let me rephrase. It's obviously been fixed for me, and I'm no-one special. If I can't repro it on my humble i5 with GTX1050Ti then I have to assume that the bug has been fixed, yes?
Thanks but I didn't say I had no issues, I just said that I didn't have an issue with this particular 'bug'.

I"m no coder mind you, but when it comes to the core of vegas pro, basically sony vegas, nothing seems to get altered and this fault goes back to sony vegas. It's like they can't rewrite the sony vegas code only append to it, but as said I know nothing about coding just observing problems that remain between versions for reasons I cant' comprehend
@Widetrack some time ago I experienced a flurry of similar crashes, Vegas 17 pretty much always crashed within minutes doing edits such as deletes on the timeline while the timeline was playing. I know, not very smart of me as I know Vegas is (or has been) particular vulnerable in this regard... To cut a long story short, after tweaking a bit with settings the issue disappeared. Not sure the issue was with build 452 or prior, as it was around the time the build 452 came along. Looking at my settings now (I just assume I did not change them yet) this is what I am now (you may want to try this out):
disable dynamic Ram Preview (put to 0) in the video preference tab
in he file i/o preference tab: select enable legacy HEVC decoding via Intel QSV, select Hardware decoder to use Intel QSV, disable the rest
Do not forget to restart the PC (do not just power off/on), select "restart" your windows 10 PC.
Update: I checked the project date I had issues with, and it was a week before build 452 came out, so my issues were with the previous build. Not that that necessarily means the issue is fixed in the new build however...
btw. Mine is not an actual crash. It is a massive hang. You would think it was a crash as the whole application stops responding and usually you will quit it with Task manager. However, if left alone for 5 minutes or so, Vegas comes back to life. But it is only matter of time before deleting a clip while playing cases it to haaaaaaang again.
