Vegas 17 Feature Requests

I prefer the old multi-colored VU Meter (and the circular Phase meter in SF) rather than the new integrated green one in SF13.

A little off-topic but Sound Forge Pro 13 still has the legacy peak and VU meter, in addition to the 'default' new "Peak Meter V2". As far as I see, Pro 13 has the same mono compatibility and phase meters settings as Pro 11 and 12. Right-clicking in the meter brings up most of those options. Others, like loudness LU scale meter parameters are in the 'Options' menu. There are VU meter plug-ins available you could assign to a channel or bus. Here are some from KVR audio

I wish new version have an option to do Studio RGB => Computer RGB conversion for preview only.

It is hard to work with single Monitor now.

I know about SemW extension (and use it, many thanks to author) or that I can use Output FX. However the extension affects Scope Histograms and I always forgotten to switch off the OutputFX before render.

Doesn't the Preview Levels option do the same thing but just for Preview?

Rednroll wrote on 6/11/2019, 10:36 AM

Vegas needs to complete its development on custom keyboard assignment mappings for the numeric keypad. With ryclark's help I just ran into this problem with no work around aside from purchasing more external hardware where I'm now running out of desk space to add more external hardware.

Scenario: I have always used the event editing features in Vegas controlling them with the numeric keypad (Num-Lock=On). Now that I have moved to a laptop, often is the case that some laptops have an onboard 101 keyboard which includes a numeric keyboard section, but more is the case they are coming with an 80 key keyboard which does not include the numeric keyboard section.

Under Keyboard short-cuts in help menu, See "Event selection and editing" under the Vegas keyboard short-cuts.

I am currently unable to create a custom keyboard assignment layout which includes these Vegas editing functions. There may be more.

Slip trim selected events one pixel left/right = ALT+Numeric Keypad 4/6

Slip trim selected events one frame left/right= ALT+Numeric Keypad 1/3

All numeric keypad custom assignments need to include the ability to re-assign to a non keypad keyboard assignment.

What do you mean under 'Preview Levels'?

This is SemW extension I mentioned. Unfortunately, it also changes Scopes.

That SeMW extension actually is an Output FX with two pre-defined presets and which automatically switches off for rendering (with an optional render setting to keep switched-on if desired).

A rendering option which automaticly uses HW acceleration (e.g. nvenc) for video, but also adds 5.1 audio to the final result. Now I have to manually do it in 3 steps: render 2x (1x for the video output file and 1x to get the 5.1 audio output file) and mux it together in an external program such as FFmpeg...

I've been trying to use the Marker/Region/CD Region/CD Index. Simple things that would massively improve these:
* a GoTo Marker/Region button in the index grid
* convert Regions to CD Regions (and vice versa)
* create Regions from Markers (so the end of a region is at the next marker AND the region name = marker name)
* size to region (so the timeline shows the whole region)
The CD Region Copy/Paste is not effective - I can copy to excel, but it seems to fail when pasting back.
So some export/import would be handy. Particularly to support Sound Forge or other MAGIX family products. e.g. Render to Sound Forge with the Markers/Regions?

I film some am-dram productions and brass band shows. The sound is usually the hardest thing to get right. I would like Vegas to be able to improve the 'Normalize' feature set. Thoughts are:

  • Place the Normalize as a top-level item, or a toolbar icon option. Not buried as a sub-menu.
  • Add a re-normalize option
  • Add advanced normalize - allowing a single tiny loud noise (a cough, clap, dropped drink etc) from causing a whole clip from normalizing to the required volume. I think Sound Forge 12.5 has extra options.

Alternately, to be able to Increase the volume in the clip above the track volume. You can only lower it on the time line. If I could just raise the speaking parts to an audible level between the music without needing to split into lots of clips and normalising and then refining at each break to avoid volume jumps. Or duplicating the track and..., oh it gets tedious. I feel like I just need to 'paint' on the sound track to colour the parts that need a volume shift.

Being able to animate the volume at Event level would be another way to achieve this.

Isn't that what "Lock envelope to events" under the options menu already do?

Requirements list

1. Revolutionary new INFUSION Engine like in Magix Video Pro X.

GPU decoded video frames (DirectX textures) are now directly transferred to the video engine, so copying them to memory is unnecessary. Even during resource-hungry tasks such as multicam editing on 9 tracks, playback is completely smooth. Plus, time-consuming proxy rendering is a thing of the past.
https://www.magix.com/int/video/video-pro-x/new-features/#c1063006

2. Definitive fix of Nvidia rendering GPU and Dram collision. The user cannot always set the Ram value, the number of threads, or disable GPU support before rendering.

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/v16-permanent-problem-with-dynamic-ram-in-rendering--113885/

3. Definitive fix for Vegas freeze when Auto ripple is active and delete video while it is playing.

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/error-with-auto-ripple-vegas-12-13-14--104547/

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp13-hangs-if-i-del-media-with-auto-ripple-enabled-and-playing-video--114709/#ca709765

4. internal Optical Flow for slow-motion

5. Hold the right mouse button and select files in the timeline like in Cockos Reaper.

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/speedy-edit-with-the-right-mouse-button--104440/

6. Inovative Protype Titler with 3D text

7. Close FX, Transition, and Track motion pop-ups with ESC button

...and I will be happy!

The thing I always liked about Vegas and the original Sonic Foundry programs was that the user interface was always a top priority in regards to customization. Go check out Sound Forge and notice how every toolbar can be placed, docked and re-sized.

With that in mind, the position of the timeline toolbar I really dislike. The Reason being is because since I've been using Vegas since v1.0 I have just grown comfortable working with the timeline at the top and therefore I have that setting under the display tab unchecked. Which now puts all my tool icons in the middle and makes finding them much more difficult.

Why can't I move these tool icons to the top?

Rednroll wrote on 6/26/2019, 5:48 PM

Another thing in regards to User interface. The Docking area could really use a Minimize/Maximize button. The Auto hide docking area preference is just doesn't cut it where I'm finding I'm pulling the docking area out of the way and then dragging it back up when I need it. A simple minize/maximize button on the docking area would be a very welcome addition.

@Rednroll - I have the Auto Hide Control Icon (AHCI) on my Toolbar.

A simple minize/maximize button on the docking area would be a very welcome addition.

@Rednroll - If you haven’t already do try the AHCI. Maybe the DevTeam regard that this is already there, ref to my first point.

Hello evb!

So, I'll give my input here, even if only for keeping my conscience clean !:) Just kidding, I know Magix does have an eye on these and hopefully some stuff gets in the meeting room for discussions...

Just as a note to start with, I tried some other NLEs and for some reason, the Vegas seems to me still the fastest one to edit with and even though some features and tools still feel dated and not so eye-candy as others, the overall process is fast and

In my own workflow, I realise there are mainly two features I know I could use. I guess most of other video editors have them, but regardless, I would find them useful for sure...

1. I think a sort of INSPECTOR TAB would be great, with some basic entries like brightness, contrast, saturation, maybe color wheel, etc that would come-up in the moment an event is selected. That would be TREMENDOUS!

2. A ''preview'' option for LUTs, so that you can see easily, either one at the time or more, to help decide between them, without the need to load first, each time.

Please do keep up the improvements for integration of dedicated GPUs, as that one also is sometimes a little bit tricky. And please do continue to add new features! ;)

You're a great team and Vegas is a great program for sure! Future can only be better!

All the best to you!

Adi

Besides of auto hiding the docking area you could also use F11 to hide/unhide.
