Vegas 17 Feature Requests

TobHammm wrote on 5/9/2019, 10:26 AM

1.) For bigger projects, such as feature film editing, "nesting" becomes an important function. (Edit a project within a project, some call it compound clips) This is now already possible, but only by opening another instance of Vegas. Why not follow the example of FCP or others and introduce a Tab-Based functionality. Double-Clicking on such a compound clip would open that clip in another Tab of the Timeline. (which currently doesnt exist)

2.) Incoperate a software like Pluraleyes into Vegas, so audio-synching could be achieved easily without additional software.

3.) Add a De-Noising Filter to the Effects.

4.) Add a Section for Lower-Thirds Text Overlays with a lot of presets.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR CONSIDERING THOSE SUGGESTIONS.

UPDATE: Vegas 17 is released, and I am very pleased to read the first 2 requests have been integrated in the new Version! Kudos Magix for listening and taking action!

5.) Being able to assign keywords(tags) to videofiles in the Vegas Explorer for easier search/organizing. Ideally the keywords are being stored within the footage files themselves (mp4, avi, mov), so when I copy the footage to another place/computer, I can easily "read out" the keywords. Of course there also should be a search option.

6.) FX should be searchable. When I apply an FX, I always have to browse through a gigantic list. Why isnt there a simple search box?

Yes, like Magix's own video pro X

Yes please, or a favorites list like Corel VS.

You can make a folder in VideoFX call it for example My Favorite FX and move all your often used FX into that folder, that's even possible in Vegas Movie Studio.

In VegasPro there is (already) a search function for FX.

@3POINT that is correct, I have such a folder made thanks to a past post, it is possible you even helped me with that in the past, I recall something vaguely, but the problem is that this is only visible and usable in the plugin chooser, not where I really want it, and that is in the videoFX window itself (where the search function is 😉)

You are right, I forgot about that, because usually I add the FX directly at the Event in the timeline. The FX Window that opens then, doesnt have a Search. It would be great if they add it there as well. But thank you, this already helps.

3POINT wrote on 5/9/2019, 1:21 PM

I admit, that choosing an FX from the VideoFX window has some advantage above choosing an FX from the Plugin chooser. In the VideoFX window you can also select directly a preset of an FX. In the Plugin chooser you can only add the FX, after that you must scroll through the list of presets.

I searched for a way to submit a formal feature request, but all I've found, so far, is a quote from Nick Hope that said, "There is no official channel for feature requests any more."

Recently, a user asked "Any way to import media at original size?" Yes, there is, but doing so takes an understanding of how Vegas Pro scales video and also takes keystrokes and data entry for every event added to the timeline where "actual pixel dimensions" are desirable. This request has merit. I won't speak for the coding effort, but adding a right-click option when media is added to the timeline would simplify the lives of many users.

3POINT wrote on 5/10/2019, 12:12 AM

I think, the Vegas team has at the moment other priorities for improving Vegas, like getting Vegas more stabile when using GPU. Adding nice features or improving existing ones has low priority, for me.

john_dennis wrote on 5/10/2019, 12:34 AM

Agreed. Just getting into the queue.

vkmast wrote on 5/10/2019, 2:14 AM

@NickHope's comment quoted partly by @john_dennis above is in line with what the Vegas P.O. has advised here. And the queue is a bit longer now.

TobHammm wrote on 5/10/2019, 8:36 AM

By the way I had also posted these suggestions priorly on Facebook, and @gary-rebholz called them "excellent feature requests", so I am optimistic they get seriously considered :) I think especially the nesting feature is something all users would profit from, as it helps to simplify and organize all projects. (And there is a demand for it especially in the Blogger world, which is probably why DaVinci recently introduced the "Cut" Panel in its latest version, which is another way to approach the complexity problem. )

Hope we se it in a future version!

Improving the FX window has been on our radar for a while, but like all features, it is on a priority list. I can say that personally, I really would like to get to this because I find it quite frustrating in my use of VEGAS as well.

3POINT wrote on 5/10/2019, 9:46 AM

I only hope the "improvement" of the FX window in the latest VegasMovieStudio is reversed and is not a test for the improvement of the VegasPro FX window….🙁

@VEGASDerek - Yes please. PLUS Shuttle Scrubbing on all FX Timelines.

Improved color grading workflow that seamlessly integrates with the Vegas timeline while still retaining all previous color tools as well.

Motion flow slow motion

Mesh Warping

Improved 32 bit performance

Improved GPU performance and stability

Online collaboration

Project nesting

IMPROVED BATCH ENCODING

8k support

MKV support

HDR support for more formats, MP4, HLG, Magix Intermediate, etc

Improved Titler - Give us some new text reveal/hide presets

Improved transitions - Vegas has had the same boring transition presets for over a decade.

Improved motion tracking - planar would be nice

VST3

Built in frameserver

Built in screen recorder

Regarding nesting. If the issue is to have a less cluttered timeline I will sometimes create a track group if I used a bunch of tracks for something specific, then I can minimize the group and get it out of the way. It's not the same thing but It helps a little.

You can only move selected FX to your newly created folders like " My Favorites FX" in the "All FX view".
