Just found out MS 13 doesn't import .mov files. I agree, how rude.

Are you sure?. My MS13 does. You do have Quicktime installed?

@Cosmin_Gurau: what CPU are you using when you experience the prores loading problem running out of RAM? I am experiencing the same on a 2680v4 xeon with HEVC files.

VP14 build 211 errors. First off, there needs to be a in app way of upgrading this program... searching on a forum is pretty pathetic.

So, this build of VS14 (211) does not remember my saved windows layout when it loads. Selecting the layout from the view menu works but when I close the program and reopen it it doesn't open all the modules in my layout and I have to go back to the view - windows layout - layout to get my layout correct. Pain in the ass!

The other thing that is happening more and more now with this same build is that the preview screen goes blank and I have to close the program and restart it to get it to work again.

Ideas anyone?

Sounds like it might be this bug: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/bug-loading-vp12-vp13-vp14-windows-layout-at-startup--98843/

Again thanks for your great work! There seems to be trouble, though, with using Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4K as a preview device in cunjunction with ProRes files - after a few seconds of playback Vegas 14 (211) crashes, that's repeatable. With other file formats I use (MP4 for instance) the Intensity Pro preview works, albeit with some serious resource usage that has almost trouble to play back 1080p25 without any effects in real time. Might be a BM driver issue, I'm not sure. Using Win7, 32GB, i5-4570, GTX770 4GB - should be sufficient for much more.

Thanks a lot for redirecting me to the other thread, but I still need to bother you again. After reading the discussion there I checked the PCI lane thing, i.e. I took out the smaller second Nvidia graphics card I had installed in the system. Also, I moved the BM card higher up on the motherboard.

Still no luck -in conjunction with ProRes files-. The playback of, say, MP4, works normally with 25 fps and does not crash. So I de-installed Quicktime once and forever which had still been on my system for emergency use. Again, no effect: The playback of ProRes 422 with preview directed to the BM card doesn't go further up than to 22 fps, and after a few seconds of playback Vegas crashes. So there might be a hidden issue concerning ProRes or the preview chain.

I can also mention that from the very beginning of using Vegas 14 the preview preferences window is somewhat broken: Selecting BM cards, it looks like this...

... and switching to "windows graphics card" it looks like this:

So with the option of "windows grpahics card" the monitor selection is just not there anymore, I cannot select anything. This is new, because with Vegas 13 this worked fine on the very same system. Also, there's no difference between having 1 or 2 graphics cards installed, having BM installed or not, and also no change if I select another or no graphics card for video acceleration on the other pref tab.

I can work around this using the enlarged standard preview -window- on my large monitor, but there must be something wrong.

Thanks for your help!

See FAQ #25.

Thank you Nick! Updating to newest .NET framework helped to fix the broken window layout.

Actually the external preview problem with ProRes seems to be solved as well - one mistake was to mark "10 bit encoding" in conjunction with the BM card. With that unchecked the playback rate is 25fps and Vegas does not crash anymore. Maybe the .NET framework update had some positive effect there as well, that's hard to say.

Hi,

How can I be told of these updates? Vegas Pro 14.0 never told me an update was available and I did not receive an email notice. Is here the only place to discover the existence of updates?

thanks

Hi

Are there any projects to use GPU for rendering? It's a pity to see so many cores sit idle while the CPU is doing all the work.

set wrote on 2/28/2017, 6:01 PM

@bravof : you can see this FAQ note for more info about GPU acceleration: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-graphics-cards-gpu-acceleration-for-vegas-pro--104614/ - currently not all GPU are supported.

Is GPU acceleration (CUDA &/or OpenCL) for the codecs a higher priority for VEGAS 15, since a solution will probably need to develop some momentum and knowledge accumulation to reach fruition? Surely it is one of the more technical problems to tackle.

bravof wrote on 3/9/2017, 11:05 AM

@set: yes Nick Hope's FAQ is the best. But what I'm referring to is using GPU for rendering: currently it's only really used for filters and effects. You see that AVC/AAC encoders support legacy GPU that are 5 years old. People using these GPU report a HUGE increase in encoding speed with these old GPU. Today we have GPU that are 10x more powerful but not supported. What I am hoping for is support for those.

I can say that I'm really unhappy with the Sony vegas pro 14 download. I did everything that I was asked to download and still the program isn't installed after paying the money fot it. I spent a half hour downloading the upgrade. Sony's Customer Service sucks !! . I am so angry it isn't even funny Sony's customer service is non existant. I WANT MY FING MONEY BACK !!!!

Vegas Pro 14 is not a Sony product. Sony sold it to Magix in 2016. Troubleshoot installation issues here. Find support via this post.

...If you paid to Sony why don't you complain to FIFA?

Hi, I've been using Vegas pro since version 7 and have updated every time.

This isn't all negative so bear with me devs.

This latest V14 has really got me wrong footed. I really want to update but it is SO much more than I'm used to paying and frankly I can't justify the cost. Certainly there's some very useful features - the global switch setting yes- at last. Codecs yes great, they are just part of everyday progress.

But I couldn't see much to get excited about.

I was expecting more of an UI overhaul, maybe a darker skin like could have got me over the line. I'm giving the trial a shot for a while to see more clearly what V14 has in store anyway. Unfortunately my experience so far has been crash after crash, hang after hang.

DO I want that? Hmmm.

I'll need to troubleshoot some plugins and maybe do some culling, but this isn't a great start.

What is good is the liveliness of this forum and participation of the Magix team, that does give me hope.

I can see people here have reported bugs and they have been addressed, awesome.

That kind of interest was sorely lacking at Sony, there seemed to be a massive divide between users and development which left people feeling deserted- especially the poor suckers like myself who waited for an acid update.😳

So this brings me to an earlier post here .

I'm curious about what VSTi implementation in VEGAS Pro would look like. You started out by saying "MIDI," so are you envisioning a full MIDI sequencer? Or, would it be support for VSTi that turns the MIDI information from the instrument into audio on the VEGAS Pro timeline (without the ability to adjust or sequence MIDI further)?

Interesting point of discussion and something that could be very useful.

There are many occasions where some kind of relationship with or too a DAW that crop up.

Whether it be a vocal or sound effect that might need a vsti plugin ( eg a morphed voice )

Or more commonly a score that is being created in concert with an edit.

Sometimes a more fluid relationship than what exist is required, I think the extent of which would be very large discussion.

I often wished that acid projects could be inserted as 'frozen' tracks in Vegas and vice versa .

So they work in cooperation, once a project 'link' was established, updated edits could be automatically opened in each application allowing for adjustments to be made efficiently  and cooperatively.

Or it could be as simple as 'Freeze instruments' or 'Freeze video', all in the same program?

Wouldn't that be awesome?

So now Magix has Vegas, Acid and Samplitude , maybe there is already thought in that  department- I have to assume so. I wonder what may be in store.

Acid and Vegas are SOOOO similar , why not bring them even closer? They did it with HitFilm and Vegas and Vegas projects inside Vegas ( though I don't think they are 'frozen' for easier computing.

What do you think Gary? I know you can't give out secrets, but what thoughts can you share about this Editing Sound and Video simultaneously, not just the audio but the midi as well???

Editors often to temp audio, Composers could make timing suggestions , auteurs could just do the whole damn lot. Currently is this possible in any software?

That would certainly be a coup.

Certainly all these crashes aren't 🤓

KIABU wrote on 3/23/2017, 1:22 PM

are there any plans for real nesting functions within vegas ( not just importing a project into another one), allowing you to have timelines within timelines, and multiple timelines within one project. Man, that combined with the powerful take system would be freaking amazing!!

Updates over updates, but the rendering it's still the most unstable thing of this software. Cuda never and seems will never work, if I use it, rendering will ALWAYS crash.
Batch rendering it's ok, but useless cause it won't at all use more than 1 core and won't use Cuda acceleration.
I do more than 10/12 vids every day, the only way for have them ready the day later, it's batch render the projects in a new sequence and hope the rendering will not hangs or Vegas crash.

I use vegas + movie studio platinum for some nice features (I can't live wthout them) like the automatic pan and zoom + transitions on movie platinum with automatic frame size fill. Others sw don't have this feature. But really, every time I need to render something, it's like a jump in the dark... and it's SLOW! "Other" softwares I used, can batch with all cpu cores, with cuda active, and they takes 10 times less than vegas batch rendering...
