VEGAS_CommunityManager wrote on 12/21/2016, 2:57 AM

Dear community,

We have something special for you for the holidays! Today we rolled out Update 4 (build 211) for VEGAS Pro 14. This update fixes a few bugs and adds important ProRes rendering options that further improve our ProRes implementation. Again, we want to thank you all for your engagement and passion for VEGAS Pro.

It's been an exciting year, and the great feedback we received from you along the way has helped VEGAS Pro make amazing progress. Now together let's take VEGAS Pro to the next level in 2017!

You can download build 211 now at: http://rdir.magix.net/?page=PNSWSBOEO7BJ

Here are the patch notes for this update:

Features

  • Added ProRes rendering options for 24p, 30p and 60p/I framerate.
  • Adjusted the horizontal tolerance for Trimmer window hover scrub to make it easier to add the selected area to your timeline without inadvertently establishing a new selection.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed stutter / judder issues playing back 23.97/29.97/59.94 frame rate ProRes / HEVC files
  • Fixed video noise issues related to deep blacks / whites with ProRes files
  • In the Color Curves plug-in, the channel settings now persist when you close and reopen the Video Event FX dialog box
  • In the Color Curves plug-in, the Show all Channels checkbox now defaults to selected

Best regards,

Mathias

All the Vegas team's hard work is appreciated. I think fixing the preview window dropped frames issue that we had for years and maximizing performance for all GPU's should be a priority. Not taking advantage of the full processing power of GPU's such as the Quadro line of products is a downer.

Great!, really appreciate your hard work!

Dzięki!

Twoja praca i słuchanie użytkowników sprawia, że warto czekać na Vegas 15! Tym razem jednak możemy spodziewać się rewolucji! :)

gary-rebholz wrote on 12/22/2016, 8:06 AM

Take heart, Cosmin_Gurau...we can't fix them all at once, but rest assured that this one is making it's way up the list.

Are all updates cumulative? I don't really need this update but if a future one is released that may be of more of a benefit for me I would want to expect for this update to also be included in any future update.

I have a request for a future enhancement. Could a visible icon of some sort be implemented that would show when the AUTO RIPPLE is turned on or off? I'm continually having to go up to the drop down menus to find out whether it is on or off, usually after I've screwed up :-(

And what feature you wish to have on the future updates...?

I'm so thankful they fix the ProRes video noise issues because I work with Atomos Ninja2 's footage...

A visible indicator of the AUTO RIPPLE status somewhere. :-)

Rather than checking on the drop down menu, you can see it on the 3rd icon from the right at the bottom:

And shortcut Ctrl-L

Whoa !!! I know about the CTRL-L shortcut but never saw anything that would indicate whether it was ON or OFF. Now I'll have to go back and take a look at that. THANK YOU !!!

Are all updates cumulative?

Yes each subsequent update will include the features of all previous updates. You can skip this one and get these new enhancements later when you install a future one.

The Auto Ripple request is a common one and is definitely on our radar.

Awesome SET ! Many thanks for your reply. I've been needing that for over a year when I was using SONY Movie Studio. Now if we could only make the icons a little bigger LOL. :-)

Maybe if it changed to a bright color or something so it would be more noticeable would help. Many thanks to the reply from 'set' I at least have now become aware of the tiny icon in the bottom menu bar.

MrG, I thought many MSP 13 users did not like the new bigger icons:)

Yeah, I think you're correct but my 70+ eyes appreciated them :-) I seem to recall Derek on the MSZ forum talking about it when v13 was released. The Auto Ripple indication has always been a big frustration with me even though I know about the CTRL-L shortcut I never knew if it was on or off and was having to continually use the 'Undo' command LOL Now that 'set' informed me about the tiny icon indicator in the bottom menu bar I'm going to have to go back and check my SMS to see if it was there all the time and I never spotted it. I don't think it is but I'm going to check anyway.

I don't mean to be rude. It just seems to me that this is a basic functionality that people have simply learnt to avoid... It's one of those things that should clearly, simply work, but somehow has NEVER worked. Not once in all 14 major releases. I obviously have never seen the source code, but it would surprise me that this is a real tough one to crack... Then again... I have never seen the code. I could be wrong.

I am happy for the work on the ProRes front, even moreso that some of the bugs I reported have been fixed. (Yaaaay!) We have to find a way though, to make importing large numbers of prores files much faster and, well... possible. No matter what importing technique I use, Vegas crashes or runs out of memory (I have 32 GB RAM-and I tried it with only Vegas open). I'll post the video I did earlier again, in case people missed it.

I know that Vegas has clearly outdated code in a lot of areas and that fixing some stuff would mean rewriting some core aspects of it (which I get - is quite difficult), but these things simply can't happen fast enough, the other day the creator of the largest English VEGAS PRO facebook group made an announcement that he is finally  switching to Premiere and that someone should take his place as moderator. Sure the guy is just a "wedding videographer", but nevertheless, this guy was passionate enough at some point to start this group which ended having over ten thousand members, and his departure is not only a hit to the morale, but an indicator...

It's ironic that so many people (read the group posts) are abandoning ship now, when VEGAS finally has a passionate team behind it. This shows what years of negligence on SONY's part has done to the credibility of this software. Unfortunately, blaming it on Sony won't bring all those years back.

...the creator of the largest English VEGAS PRO facebook group ...

A little history about that FB group: The original creator of that group is someone else (not him - but you can check on Members section). I was once an admin too there - but due to one of a personal reason, I leave it... he continue the admin task..., until he announced about it.

OK, let's get back to topic...

Cosmin_Gurau; Yes, I'm painfully aware of all of that, including the fact that none of it is happening as fast as we'd all like. I take responsibility for making the decisions about which problems we address and the order in which we address them. You keep pushing me, I keep pushing the team, they keep pushing their limits.

I'm distressed to hear that you are still having problems with importing ProRes files. You have my direct information; feel free to contact me and let's see if we can work through the problem you're having with those files.
