...I think I may have solved the problem- if I load Vegas by right-clicking on the program icon and click "run with graphics processor" and choose Nvidia, it seems to work without error....

@RogerS Can you achieve the same success by disabling QSV using this new preference in build 361?:

RogerS wrote on 5/30/2018, 9:21 AM

Hi Nick, I'll disable that and see how it goes. I still have a bit more editing with this project to do.

I have been using Vegas since version 4 when I started but not in a fully professional way, more semi pro when I did weddings in the early 80's 90's, its come a long way since then. I have had my share of problems with it, but not being on a dead line now for the last 10 years "retired now " so in no rush when I get a problem.
There has always been a work around or some fudge to get you moving again. Also I see some familiar names on here from other forums I am on and have been on like jetdv, Grazie, and a few others, without all the help from these and other guys I am sure we would not be where we are now.
I think the product as come on leaps and bounds in the last couple of years, although we have had some long standing bugs, its starting to develop in to a great NLE editor, and cant wait for some new features that are mentioned in the upcoming VP16.
I am still very much in love with video editing and have tried all the different editing software programs but still come back to Magic/Vegas, keep up the good work guys.
I still have some problems with version 15 but nothing to get worked up about, lifes to short lol.

If Vegas gets updated coloring tech, some built in motion tracking (or offer Mocha as a bundle with the suite! or maybe a 1-2 year subscription to it if the full license is too costly to bundle), and improved XML exporting (I can't get premiere to properly open xml at all, and when it does the clip in/out points are all wrong.), a solid text generator that doesn't cut off the edges of some fonts, works with more fonts, has more motion presets for reveals and transitions (please stop making us rely on New Blue, their support is terrible and their products are always buggy... they NEVER update them. If you download the suite, all other programs in the suite have been updated, theirs is still on version 1.00), and give us improved tools for pre-editing and organizing clips (without having to buy extra software to do it) then Vegas will have what it takes to become the industry standard editing app.

XaVC-s (mp4) still see something as simple as a fade between clips freezing between the transitions. Not smooth. It seems random when happens though. Any one else?

Is there anyone else seeing this? Hoping I am not alone here. : )

No details have been announced other than me saying we are working on some new features for VP 16.

Y'all could drop us a tease or two... That was one thing I didn't like about VP15's launch, I knew little about it until the day it launched. I'd like to be able to get a little hyped about what's to come!

Today I was able to work on the project and render out a draft (2 hour event recording) after disabling QSV. It did seem to use the right GPU- the GeForce was at about 20% load and CPU at 90%+. I'll report back if I have any more of those system shutdown crashes. Having no warning and the system just announcing it's turning off is very disruptive.

Pursuit-Perfect-System wrote on 5/31/2018, 5:00 AM

My GPU rendering problem is still the same in build 361 - devastated really hoping it would fix it.

Project gets to about 30% sometimes more - then just hangs, gradually the rendered frame count gets slower and slower until it stops or renders the same few frames in a loop.

No advice from support has made any difference - dissapointed to say the least

Thanks to MagixDerek - my issues is now fixed (worked around) - Really Happy and appreciate it

Pursuit-Perfect-System wrote on 5/31/2018, 5:15 AM

Also if I try to render using the new HEVC codec it says within 1 second error code 0x806600a and crashes the software

GPU is NVidia GTX1060 6GB

EDIT following the failed attempt at HEVC render and software crash I loaded Vegas back up only to have a solid red preview window and a complete system crush and hen full screen black screen requiring a pc hard restart using the power button

EDIT Thanks to MagixDerek - my issues is now fixed (worked around) - HEVC rendered just fine although not sure on the quality just yet

Hello.

Thanks for the updating. I'm now using VEGAS Pro 15.0.177 version and I got an issue with it.

It's about the diagram from the curves option when I animated for something (It's located in the bottom right of the effect window). I set my keyframes to Slipt Manual mode and they always got messed up when I tried to control them. If I try to make the line go lower it gonna cross under the value of the next one. Another problem is they don't perform the right value transformation that I set in the diagram. This diagram will become very useful if it doesn't have any problem. Hopefully, it will be fixed!

@KPDVD Sounds like this issue.

Anyway you should really update to the latest build, which has many bugfixes over 177 (but that issue is not fixed).

Just did the update....Instead of improving....cannot even start up...please someone help me...cannot do my work today.

fr0sty wrote on 5/31/2018, 7:46 AM

Do a re-install, after completely un-installing Vegas. That should hopefully fix the issue.

Just wanted to say that strangely, the amount of system resources rendering takes has dropped significantly since this update. I used to get full cpu utilisation, and about 30% gpu utilisation. That's dropped to around 70% cpu and 22% gpu. Not sure why, but my render times don't seem to unduly affected. Have to do some benchmarking to say for definite about render time though. FYI, my cpu is a i9-7980xe, and gpu is Titan XP (2 in SLI). Thanks!

From my testing in the past, SLI is not only not supported but also can cause stability issues and even reduce performance.

Good stuff. Now when can we expect a fix for the Vegas Text tool? there are still a lot of problems with it not being able to recognize fonts , or recognize them but not apply them.

Richvideo wrote on 5/31/2018, 1:56 PM

My install doesn't have the Magix HEVC render option...

@jetdv I don't have it either. My guess is that you only see that option if you have an AMD or NVIDIA GPU that will support HEVC rendering. Otherwise you have the Intel HEVC option for QSV or CPU-only HEVC renders.

Probably depends on your hardware set. Some small bits I found on inet, not guaranteed definitive.

Others feel free to correct or add to ...

1) 6th Generation Intel Core processors, Skylake, supports hardware accel. hevc 8-bit encode and decode.

2) AMD’s 6th-generation ‘Carizzo’ APUs onwards, vce 3.0.

3) I have a Fury-X and don't have Magix-HEVC.

3) AMD Radeon R9 Fury/Fury X ‘Fiji’ GPUs onwards. Update, See 3) above correction by @Adi-W

4) HEVC encoding for NVidia, a 10xx series card is required. Older cards did not have the HEVC encoder.

4) Nvidia 900 Series GPUs (GeForce GTX 960, 950) onwards. Update, See 4) above correction by @VEGASDerek

I think that you are incorrect I have the GTX 960 card and I have HEVC encoding. I use it in TMPGEnc all the time

What's you timeline playback performance with the 960/970? I'm considering the GTX-970 4GB for budgetary reasons and given I can't seem to get a definitive answer on what route to go with - AMD or nVidia for improved timeline playback performance

@Cliff Etzel I don't quite get your question. The only people that "could" give a definite answer are MAGIX employees and I doubt they can. There is no "perfect" card especially when you have budget constrains. The best card for "you" is the one you can afford and does what you need it todo.

I personally doubt that a GTX960/970 with 4GB GDDR5 is better than a Fury X with 4G HBM. What makes you believe it?

Thank you for this update. Memory usage dropped from 15GB to 4.5GB. You obviously fixed some memory leaks. I'm looking forward to other improvements I've read about.

My question is; why did no one acknowledge all these bugs and problems. Sometime just admitting that there is a problem helps users work around it. I have struggled through thousands of crashes not knowing where to turn. Technical support goes through the motion of pretending that the problem is unique to my system when THEY KNOW that there is a bug.

Magix, you nearly lost me as a long term customer. Hopefully I can work now and sleep better and not struggle with switching to a new platform.

Richvideo, can you, or anyone else with 9 series cards confirm if hevc works in vp15 with this card? then I can update my original post.
