Like some of the other posters, I'm getting random startup crashes, recovery is via "stop process" in Windows Task Manager.

Also crashes randomly when editing, some examples:

  • When I dragged loop region marker to change region size. Crashed as soon as I clicked on marker.
  • When I was duplicating audio tracks via copy/paste
  • When I was trying to locate a scene in the video track. Crashed when I clicked on the track about halfway through the recording (around 30 minutes, if that makes any difference)

OS is Windows 7 Home "Premium", input video/audio file is TS. If the file specs make any difference, here they are:

Video
Format                 MPEG-TS
File size              13.4 GiB
Duration               2 h 10 min

I have questions about the pre-defined rendering templates too, but I'll put those in another post.

Have a good one,

Alan Mintaka

Hello,

Please bear with me here, because I have only a basic working familiarity with earlier Pro versions.

I noticed that some of the pre-defined rendering templates were removed in Pro 16.307. The ones I can remember were the NTSC templates. There were others I can't recall at the moment, but will find out when I go back to Pro 15.

Why was this done?

The specific rendering options I'm trying to use are Blu-Ray 1920X1080-24p, with AVC encoding and audio tracks included.  There's no one template that I can edit to those exact specs, e.g. Sony MVC/AVC has the Blu-Ray video specs for AVC encoding, but can't be modified to include the audio tracks.

Other pre-defined templates come close with 1920X1080-24p, but no AVC encoding.  One example is MainConcept MPEG-2 which can include audio, but for the video spec there's no AVC encoding.  There are other encoding options such as HDV, ASTC, but do these work with Blu-Ray the way AVC encoding does?  At the moment I don't know.

Do I just have to render video and audio tracks separately using different templates, and hope that they'll stay in sync when I import them into DVD Architect?

Thanks for your time and patience,

Alan Mintaka

If you have a file called say output.mp4, date xxx, and you render to the same filename, Vegas rewrites the file ok but the file date stamp is not updated.

I reported this previously, years ago.

Otherwise (having just done the $199 upgrade from v14) I quite like it. It renders 4x faster than v14. Selecting GPU rendering makes less than few % difference. And I managed to crash it pretty quick by selecting some combination of speedup (4x max possible) and subsampling (10x) on a clip, but I don't normally do that...

There is some subtle bug which prevents the velocity profile working correctly; also present in v14. See

Hi @Arthur7 … See my notes to the "Red Car" test … https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/intel-i9-9900k-processor-review-using-vegas-pro--113429/?page=2 About half way down page 2 on that thread.

Its great that its working again but under some conditions its a lot slower rendering than with the previous Intel driver.

Not an issue if the Intel QSV is your main/only HW render choice option.

I updated the "Running man" 4k test results and there's a very substantial render time hit here also … https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/intel-i9-9900k-processor-review-using-vegas-pro--113429/?page=3

I successfully removed the .6444 driver and reinstalled the "Legacy" 6373 driver as my times with Nvidia for HW Acc. and rendering with Intel QSV gives me the best render time combination.

I dont have benchmarked yet for rendering but i cannot remember if Vegas was that responsive and fast to my seek and edit in the timeline!.. i can see the difference from super fast load of the clips thumbnails which i think had been always a draw back to the performance of Vegas and caused many issues as my opinion and also when i crossfade two clips there is almost no lag!!.. i use iGPU for HW acceleration and rendering because i feel it is more stable and less lagy than my 970GTXm. I am considering to buy a Surface PRO tablet of 8th or next years 9th gen CPU as it is reported to playback 4K video files almost butterly smooth!!! I am always on the go and therefore i need a productive hybrid tablet/laptop for my video needs...

I'm not sure what it's called but I noticed in the 307 build, something weird with the crop, fx and hamburger menu on the clips missing. The picture below is the same project but in the left, the buttons don't appear on the right. In the right picture, the buttons do appear, regardless how far zoomed in I am or how much of the clip continues past the edge. What is up with this?

Hi Everyone,

Just got a BSOD when I was rendering an MP4 (AVC) video.  I was using the Sony AVC/MVX profile
Blu-Ray 16 Mbps 1920X1080-24p.  The file was captured with a Hauppauge Colossus 2 card.

First, the BSOD message:

"Error", "Windows has stopped computer", "Prevent Damage," etc
Driver_IRQ_Not_Less_Than_Or_Equal
In file IASTORA.SYS (Intel Fapid Storage TechnologiesRivers, 4.7)
Address: FFFFF8800106C2D6
Base: FFFFF8800100C000

Notes:

Input file: Mp4 (AVC) 14.7 Mbps VBR 1920X108 imterlaced, top first, 29.97 fps, 18.3 GB

One possible glitch here: I had  to run the captured file through "QuckStream Fix" in VideoRedo 5 first.  VP16 couldn't  read the audio track.  ffmped said there were sync and framing errors in the file. After Quickstream, ffmpeg said the Quickstream output was OK.  It played OK in VLC and in VP16 all tracks showed and were in sync.

Yesterday I rendered the same project, Quickstream and all, without problems. Today I checked the "Store Markers In Output File" rendering option (forgot to do that the first time arouned). I also changed the name of the output file. Other than those two things, nothing else was different when the BSOD appeared.

UPDATE: Ran without a problem the second time. During rendering Task  Manager showed VP16 was using 80% - 90% CPU, 1.1 GB Memory. That's a pretty heavy CPU load on this system. Could be that something else running at the same time pegged the CPU. I don't know.

Specs:

PC Dell XPS 8700 16 GB RAM Intel Core 7
HDD 2 TB, 500 GB used
Windows 7 Home Premium

Anyone else run into a similar poblem?  If you did, were you able to figure out what went wrong?

Let me know if more info is required.  Should I start a new thread with something like a BSOD?

Have a Good One,

Alan Mintaka

I would think it something todo with your hard disk or interface or controller. As you can see the error message relates to your Intel Rapid Storage Technology; could also be a driver issue.

Good point. When I first ID'd the driver, I thought maybe it had something to do with RAM. However VP16 used 1.1 GB on a system with 16GB RAM, so that's probably not likely.

After seeing your msg I started running a few disk analysis apps, including Windows Disk Manager, EasyBCD, etc. So far no probs reported but I should really do that chkdsk reboot analysis.

That said, if there is a problem with the HDD, it's a new one, and so far VP16 is the only app that's had this kind of issue.

In general, though, both VP16 and DVDA have been hanging randomly, sometimes when I'm trying to open large media files, other times... whenever. I never can seem to repeat the same error exactly the same way - thus, "random." Based on these experiences and some of the reports on this forum, I suspect that VP16 needs a little more work.

Time will tell. For now, I'm putting both VP16 and DVDA through the paces, just to see what happens..

Thanks again for that observation.

bvideo wrote on 12/4/2018, 2:46 PM

"Random" could also be a sign of memory instability (e.g. a bad ram stick or a mismatch w/ motherboard) or excessive temperature, e.g a long render @ 80-90% cpu utilization. There's ususally a MS-provided memory test available via F8 during startup. For temperature, maybe your computer has a vendor-provided temperature monitor, or you could try CPU-Z or some such.

NCARalph wrote on 12/8/2018, 11:47 AM

There still seems to be a problem with Render As when selecting AAC or AC-3 audio. It won't let you select just the loop region. This does work for the video renderers and the MP3 Audio.

Confirmed. The render options are wrongly disabled for "AAC Audio" and "Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio" formats. Support request: [Ticket#2018102717002258]

This can be pretty insidious. If you do an AAC render, while you can't select or deselect the options, it's left at whatever the last setting was. So that means if you select loop region for an AVC MP4 render, then do an AAC render, loop region is still selected! This can be very mysterious when the sound is cut.

@Marco. point taken, good that you mention it, I was wondering where my post went the first time. I normally do not post the same in different categories, but thought it relevant to also add the audio rendering issue (original in the audio section) to copy to the Vegas 16 build 307 feedback thread, and the 15 latest build feedback thread as it may be linked to these particular builds. I was also not sure if the audio section was the correct place for the post as it may be overlooked as there is no build feedback thread and it is a less popular category.

As a side note I raised a ticket for the issue to Magix

With the beginning of build 307 I got on my laptop increasing amounts of "Vegas cannot react" followed by me closing down the program and starting again.
For me a reason this build not to install on my desktop for serious editing.
Today I switched on my laptop also back to build 261 and gone were the problems with the freezing interface doing exactly the same edits before in build 307 with the freezes.

I will wait and see how it goes on...........
