VEGAS Pro 18 Update 3 (Build 434) - General Discussion

I found that VP18 still can not display in the preview window the Canon EOSR 4k All-i MP4 file. It is just all black even though VP16 could display the same file with just a few black frames. So I will continue to have to edit in VP16 until Magix decides to fix VP18 so it can work with modern video files and codecs. Here is a sample of the Canon file that can not display in VP18 that you can download and test: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZUlimXZweDM68Gasl8Ey8gfwY5rGurNyJSy

I have the same problem. From my experience this happens when the software is low on video RAM. Unfortunately turning off video acceleration doesn't help. It just gives me a red preview screen instead of a black one.

I am unable to install the update. It downloads and asks me if I would like to install immediately or when the program is closed. Neither of them work. Each time I open Sony Vegas it asks me to download the update. Why is this happening?

Thanks in advance

Dear Community,

We have just released the third update for VEGAS Pro 18. Please give us your feedback in this thread.

If you already have an earlier build of VEGAS Pro 18,  there is no need to uninstall it, build 434 will overwrite your installation and retain your settings. Keep in mind that your computer will need to be online for activation after the update.

For more information, please refer to our official announcement with patch notes.

I hope you have a great rest of your week.

Sincerely,

Bri

It doesn't work and I had to uninstall an older version to install the new one.

FYI, here's the MediaInfo for the Canon file the two users above are having issue with. It loads fine for me in VP 18 with settings at the defaults in file I/O. It uses so4compoundplug.dll but doesn't appear to use decoding on my Intel GPU and plays back poorly with the CPU at 100%.

Hello, I can't Install it after getting this error. "The installation program canot update Vega Pro 18.0 if it's running."

I had the same issue and fixed the same way.

Hello,
I have VEGAS Pro 18 (VEGAS_Pro_18.0.0.434_DE-EN-FR-ES_nVUsnks40).
The program hangs (stops working) as soon as I select "render as ...". You can't even set the rendering options.

I was an happy winner of Vegas pro 18 at the last 2020 Holiday Contest but unfortunately and ironically I cannot use it as I have the same "render as..." problem. As soon as I try to do a render, Vegas crash without even showing the render window.
I have try many different things to solve the issue with no luck.

For those who are having crash with crash report opened, I suggest also leaving your personal #hashtag, your name or your this-forum-username there (or also e-mail) and post here in the forum your unique #hashtag or your 'identities'. By doing this, the developers may able to trace the reports faster.

Being Instagram-active person, I'm leaving my hashtag ' #setiawan #setchung ' there on PRS reports, including the File>Render as issues. They are trying to solve this issue as well, and your crash reports regarding to similar case can be helpful.

The preview window turning red indicates a problem with the gpu, so if a driver update fails (always use studio drivers for nvidia, though your 970 doesn't support that driver, or enterprise pro drivers for radeon), it means your gpu isn't sufficient to decode that video. Perhaps disabling gpu decoding in the file i/o options in preferences will help in that case.

As for the render as crashes, this is how I got around them when I was having them a year or so ago...

Start a new, blank project. Drop any media on the timeline, I usually use text or generated media from the media generator tab.

Select render as. You should see the render dialog box appear. Close it.

Now open your project you are trying to render, without exiting vegas. It should render properly now.

It shouldn't cause this issue, but your cpu doesn't meet the min. requorements to run VEGAS, and you only have enough ram to do 1080p editing.

Studio drivers are for nvidia, qsv is encoded on the encoder "chip" found in your intel processor, which has its own driver.

@wiel-gulpen Recent Intel drivers appear to be the cause of you losing QSV.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your patience on this one. After checking in with our devs it was determined that the affected applications need to be rebuild using an updated Intel® Media SDK. I know this is not the easiest approach but with the massive shift to DCH some portions of the driver code cannot work the same anymore. We won't be making DCH drivers backwards compatible so our recommendation is to wait for the affected applications to get updated (per example just like Handbrake 1.2.2 did).

wiel-gulpen wrote on 1/26/2021, 4:12 AM

RogerS, that says all:

'so our recommendation is to wait for the affected applications to get updated'!

So, now Magix has to do the job as Intel says the drivers will not be (made) backwards compatible.
