@adis-a3097 I can/have used your settings, similar, but the View Transform has to be left OFF. If not then the saturation is just off the wall.

#1 Example of with View Transform OFF, LUT applied to event ... Is best result, i.e. represents reality ...

#2 Examples of with View Transform ON, LUT applied to event ... Unnatural

#3 Examples of with View Transform OFF, LUT NOT applied to event ... Unnatural

The Media's properties Colour range set to Full and Colour Space set to Canon-Curve-Canon-log3

@adis-a3097 Yes, the Camera was set to Clog3, which always produces Hevc 10 bit 422, washed out in the screenshot below.

Nearest to reality below, as previously posted ...

Hm, doesn't look like log to me at all, more like regular 709, with 16-235 (or 64-940) range.

JN- wrote on 5/13/2021, 11:29 AM

This is another example, you can see the narrow levels range. This is it after just loading into VP, setting 10 bit for the scopes range. It is Clog3. I need the "View Assist" enabled in camera so that it doesn't look washed out while shooting.

Maybe if I do what I previously did, with View Transform to OFF, I can then use the media input LUT to fine tune things. It's probably two different ways of getting the same result. The Lut is applying the Transform, when it’s (View Transform) OFF in Project Properties.

This update pretty much bricked my Preview window. Many people are experiencing the same issue. Please help. I want to undo the update. I don't know enough about the tech side of things to fix this. I just need an editing suite that works. I don't even use all the bells and whistles. How can I revert back to my previous version. It had bugs but it wasn't broken!

Well, it's nice to see the improvements, I really want Vegas to work, I like the format and easy workflow, but...

Here's where Magix let's the software down.

Video stabilization is so bad I cannot use it. (I use After Effects instead).

Motion Tracking is quite poor and in most cases I find that I have to resort to AE once again.

If Magix fixed these two Items they would have a world class NLE.

That's actually quite a statement, considering that VEGAS (in my use) has proven better then Premiere's Warp Stabilizer.

I realize you said AE,:

Usually, one uses After Effects for specific forms of stabilization, especially when wanting to involve a 3D Camera Layer.

But to outright use it as an overall replacement? Can you demonstrate your use of it and where it fails? Maybe I'm the one missing out on something.

It looks that your gpu driver is not the right one.
Install the online version available at Help/Check for Driver Updates in VPro 18

No, that is incorrect. I have the latest GPU driver from AMD and I have already performed the Vegas update procedure in Help. Build 527 still will not start (gives error shown). Also, the bug screen indicates a dll issue, not a driver issue.

I must continue to use Build 482.

So how can I prevent the "update" routine from nagging me every time I start the program?

I also wish to level the most severe criticism possible to Vegas 18 developers, for not taking AMD systems into account. Vegas Creative is an absolute disgrace

RogerS wrote on 5/14/2021, 1:59 AM

The DLL appears to be part of your driver- look at the path. I'd completely uninstall and then reinstall the AMD driver.

Half of us are using AMD but you can click on "support" to file a request for help.

@JN- Well, don't apply it then. 😄

Look, if you go the ACES route you don't apply additional LUTs (I mean you can, but you're on your own!), and if you go LUTs route make sure it's the right ones.

Happy coloring! 😉

JN- wrote on 5/14/2021, 5:34 AM

@adis-a3097 Thank you for the clarifications. This isn’t my area of expertise.

My summary ...
”It's probably two different ways of getting the same result. The Lut is applying the Transform, when it’s (View Transform) OFF in Project Properties.”

#1 Set the View Transform to OFF and apply the lut.

#2 Set the View Transform to ON and don’t apply the Lut.

#1 Appeals to me more so as I can fine adjust with the lut slider. OTOH #2 is probably a quicker way to set things up, especially if you have say a lot of clips and don’t need or have the time to do fine adjusting.

@montoya66 There's allot of discussion on the amd site about their amdocl64.dll driver conflicting with Windows and crashing. You probably need to update Windows. Would also suggest a clean driver install using the amd Enterprise drivers after doing an uninstall with DDU.

Perhaps you did not read my previous posts? I have all the latest drivers and updates for windows. The latest AMD radeon driver is 2020-21.5.1 which I have. I don;t really care about discussion about AMD. Build 482 of Vegas works fine. What I care about is Vegas creative putting out a buggy product and wasting my time which I have not been compensated for. And my question is how to get rid of the nagging update screen when I start Vegas 18. Do you understand?

huskereurocat wrote on 5/14/2021, 10:29 AM

Is there some reason why the update download is taking so long? I just tested my internet speed and it was 550Mbps so I know my connection isn't the issue. Almost a half hour has passed and I'm only at 13% downloaded.

@montoya66 The latest driver for your R9 360 appears to be 21.Q1.2 released on 4/27. I would uninstall the Adrenalin one and install the Enterprise one from here that is tested with Vegas:

Thank you, using 27.20.14540.4003 (21.5.1) enterprise edition driver does allow build 527 to load. Note that AMD calls this a driver 'downgrade' from the latest adrenalin version. So recommending the 'latest drivers' in this forum is not always the correct solution. But... the issue was with the video driver after all, where I had to install an older version to get 527 to load.

Interesting that V18 build 482 did work with the latest Adrenalin edition driver for my card, whereas build 527 does not. Does magix vegas creative recommend particular GPU's for particular motherboards for its particular software products?

RogerS wrote on 5/14/2021, 5:12 PM

It's only a downgrade in version number and is recommended for creative applications.

Magix recommends the Enterprise driver explicitly and the NVIDIA Studio Driver and responsible forum members explicitly mention these lastest drivers, not the bleeding edge gaming driver.

You can see cards in Vegas's system requirements but any recent card should meet it. Nothing on motherboards, it shouldn't matter.

Howard-Vigorita wrote on 5/14/2021, 6:29 PM

Part of the problem is a recent quirk in the amd driver's console that lists the game driver as a recommended update even when the Enterprise driver is already installed. Didn't used to do that. They say that's slated to be corrected in a future Enterprise driver console update. Might also help if magix got rid of mention of the amd game driver in the dropdown of the vp18 Driver Update screen... looks like they did that for nvidia... I don't see a game driver update option any more in vp18 build 527 on my xps15. But I still see both game driver recommended and optionals on my amd machines. Btw, the amd 21.5.1 game driver is not recommended even by amd; it's an optional update for folks having a specific problem addressed in their update notes.

Build 527 will not run on my system: Win 10 64-bit build 10.0.19042 on AMD MSI 7B79 Ryzen 7 3700x & AMD Radeon R9 360

I've tried reporting via the crash window (attached) but seems there is no response from magix support.

Have tried re-installing several times and deleting all registry keys and re-booting prior to re-installallation. Pls email me a link to the previous build that I may download, which was working. From what I gather magix in all its wisdom does not have a registered user accessible archive of older versions.

I am having the same problem, crashes within 10min of launch (Win 10-64 on AMD Asus ROG Zenith Extreme w/ Threadripper 2950X & Asus Strix 1080Ti w/ 64GB G.SKILL 3200 RAM).
