I am normally one to advocate for new features as I've done so on this forum in the past, but I don't think anyone can argue that the amount of things fixed in this update is anything but impressive. Thanks MAGIX for the QoL improvements!

@jacknsb The new features are coming.

The fix list doesn't mention the NVIDEA RTX gpu change mentioned in the preview post a few days ago. Is this included and can you elaborate a bit more on what it is/does?

@3d87c4 Are you referring to this? "Driver update utility now properly sees NVidia RTX 4000 series cards"

Happy that the audio pops at the end of audio files have been fixed. Even more happy to see AV1 support.
Hoping to test some AV1 files in the timeline to see how perform when editing.

@VEGASDerek: Yes, it's not clear whether this addresses the problem that's been forcing me use compatibility mode for preview during rendering.

D'oh! Sorry, I went through the list again and finally saw it. It's actually great the list is that long, eh? I promise I looked for it 3 times yesterday...

@3d87c4, that has nothing to do with the NVidia issue you are referring to. The fix only applies to the Driver Update utility in the Help menu...it would properly see the 4000 series cards.

@VEGASDerek: OK, thank you for clarifying that.

@mofobo May be a bug where Vegas can only read 1 AV1 file at a time, blend 2 tracks and CPU use goes very high, GPU decoder use does not go up, test that when you can. Otherwise playback is very responsive, before the blend it plays across an edit point seamlessly, very different to my experience with HEVC and previous Vegi

EDIT: correction Vegas isn't using my AV1 GPU decoder at all, I had other decoding software running in the background

Former user wrote on 11/8/2023, 8:02 PM

This is an iphone 10bit HEVC file, I've tested it extensively, it would always show black frames on playback and encode. Because of that scene detect would always detect split scene, so I could benchmark the black frames by the amount of false scenes Vegas would find. For the first time there are no split scenes after scene detect is run.

It's a very boring picture, but this is a big deal

RogerS wrote on 11/8/2023, 8:12 PM

I don't think AV1 is using the GPU for decoding or encoding yet.

Former user wrote on 11/8/2023, 10:21 PM

This Sony 10bit 420 HEVC codec finally is supported via GPU decode. Works very well for a single track playback, when blended GPU decoder overloads, Uses a lot of Vram

RogerS wrote on 11/8/2023, 10:38 PM

I know that file- think it has worked with QSV decode for a while- you are saying it now works okay with NVDEC?

Here's VP 19 (legacy HEVC decoding off) on my HD630 laptop.

Former user wrote on 11/8/2023, 10:50 PM

@RogerS Yes, Nvidia GPU decoder via Vegas has never been able to decode those files afaik... until now!

We're also noticing during testing that the audio pop issue at the end of clips has been resolved, please report back and let us know if you notice the same.

Opened a few of my previous projects which have noise at the end of each segment, (for me it was never a "pop", but rather a short burst of sound that already appeared in the clip somewhere, most noticeable on a dialogue track for example).

Anyway, pleased to report that here this issue seems to be resolved. Thank you.

  • Mocha Pro integration, matching Mocha VEGAS behavior

Are we awaiting a new version of Mocha Pro ofx for this? I can't see any difference for now.

Hi all,

I updated Vegas Pro Suite 21 to Build 187 this morning and now I cannot get it to work. It keeps crashing every time I load a project. I even re-booted the PC, opened a new project and started again but eventually it crashed (froze).

I tried to record this happening with Camtasia but as soon as I started to load Vegas Pro, Camtasia crashed as well. I tested Camtasia WITHOUT Vegas but opened and worked in Photoshop, Lightroom Vegas Effects and all worked fine, whilst being recorded, for 5 minutes or more.

Then I tried recording Vegas with Camtasia again and both programs crashed. It is definitely Vegas causing the issue as this only started right after I updated. Is there any way I can roll back to the previous version I was using with no problems this morning? I have a wedding I am trying to edit and I have been trying to deal with this for 3 hours.

PC Specs:

  • Windows 11 Pro 64-bit
  • 128gb RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
  • Intel i9 12900KF

Any help would be gratefully received as I need to get this wedding done.

Cheers,

Nick

@Freefly

I suggest you start your own thread and give us at least Point C here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/

To roll back, use the Add/Remove program from Windows to uninstall VP21. Then install again B108 available here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-21-now-available--142064/

@Freefly: You could turn on the hang detection (if this is a freeze, as you reported)...this option is in the internal preferences. This will allow the hang to create an error report that can be sent to our team.

Thanks guys, and apologies for posting here. Anyway, the only thing that worked was to roll back to build 108. All working flawlessly again now. Thanks for your help and sorry to bother you 👍

The Smart mask still has a long way to go before it can be used in real life.

I suggest changing the name to Beta or experimental.

HOLA: Ayer actualicé a la versión 187, pero lamentablemente no puedo importar videos, porque el programa se congela y el video sale distorcionado. Va imagen del problema.

Julius_ wrote on 11/9/2023, 5:33 PM

Installation went well.

With the previous build of V21, the program would hang at least 10-15 times a day for me. I would have to stop Vegas and re-start or sometimes reboot. Very annoying. Clips were basic 1080p 30fps, no fx, no crop, no nothing, but it would hang at random.

This version, well, it's been 3 full days and no hanging! Wow solid!!
Great work Vegas Team!

Some stuff works better with it than other... this clip would probably have better results using Zdepth.

@MikeS I saw a Mocha employee comment here confirming your assumption.

Note that this is pending the release of Mocha Pro v10.0.5 which will contain the compatibility changes.
