Picture over video not showing up!

Michael-Turek wrote on 12/14/2022, 12:23 AM

I am currently using Vegas Pro 20.0 and have been attempting to overlay PNG images over my video file. I place them in the track above the video just like always and the file appears there. When I hover over it, nothing shows up on my video preview. Anyone have any thoughts on this? It has been driving me nuts!!

@Michael-Turek - Look at the Track Header. Have you got it Muted or the Video Track Solo-ed?

Is the Trimmer window selected rather than the Video Preview window?

Do you have these settings checked or unchecked?

Or use the PIP FX on the picture.

I just updated my Vegas installation to Pro 20.0 and have the same issue of pictures not showing up. A PNG file is not being shown at all, and a JPG file is showing a black box in place of the picture, which is shown on the attached file where the timeline is showing a JPG on a track above a white solid box on a 2nd track. Has anyone found what the issue is on this problem?

(I have no muted tracks and the "Automatically Crop Video Files or Still Images are both unchecked in my Editing Preferences.)

Richard-Hinkle wrote on 12/28/2022, 5:19 PM

Also, when trying the same setup in my previous installation of Vegas 19.0, I have no issues at all. Pictures display as expected. At this point, I have not found any setting in Vegas 20.0 that accounts for this situation. Would love some help on this issue.

Same here. It works whether using Vegas PiP or just having it over the video.

@j-v that happens sometimes when you have to click off the program to get a screengrab.

Richard-Hinkle wrote on 12/31/2022, 12:33 PM

Hi "j-v",

I am not seeing anything that indicates the used media is "offline". I did use the SnipIt app to get the screenshot, t

so maybe "DMT3" comment has a bearing on this. Can you clarify why you think the media is offline?

To "EricLNZ",

The composting mode on both the video track and the track with the PNG file and JPG file, are set to "Source Alpha", which is what I have always used. The same settings and media, when used in Vegas 19 work fine. This problem only exists for me in Vegas 20.

Does anyone else have suggestions as to why my images are not displaying correctly?

Thank You!

@Michael-Turek Did you drop the png onto the timeline directly from your camera? Or drop it from removable camera storage media and then unplug the media from your computer? If so, try saving the png to your hard disk first and dropping it onto the timeline from there.

Richard-Hinkle wrote on 1/9/2023, 4:50 PM

Magix support told me to disable the use of my graphics card for rendering, done in preferences, video section. This did fix the issue, although I don't understand why my Nvidia graphics card is causing the issue. At least I no longer have the issue.

Daniel-Zrust wrote on 1/29/2024, 3:55 AM

Bizzarely, I had the same issue but my graphics card was already OFF. So I turned it ON and the images now show.

Pretty sure something else will be broken now by turning this ON. Just don't know what yet... :)

@Reyfox - how come?

In my case, pictures were not showing either but the solution for me was exactly the opposite than what Richard had to do. He was advised to turn off his GPU and it worked for him.

For me, it only started to work only after I turned my GPU on.
