Since upgrading to Windows11, Vegas 19 is slow to open

To all

Do you have "Fast Start Up" disabled in Windows 11?

I have found that enabling "Fast Start Up" solves this issue for me and I can re-create the problem by disabling it.

To check, go to

Settings
Type "Control Panel" in the search bar, enter control panel
Power Options
Choose what the power buttons do
Change settings that are currently unavailable
Turn on fast start up if not checked
Save changes and exit.

You may, of course have other issues causing this.

I did try that, did not work...

I have experienced the same kind of problems. Sometimes extremely slow to start, sometimes not starting at all unless i rebooted my computer.

I suspect it might have something to do with my harddisk being quite filled up? The problem has disappeared and Vegas Pro is starting normally after cleaning up the disk and freeing some space.

Did try that too. I also installed VP19 on a M2 Samsung 970 plus drive with plenty of space. No change...

Sure, I have submitted a support ticket, no reply yet

It seems I still have the issue. I've tried several suggestions but still no fix. As Windows 11 isn't officially supported yet, I see no point in filing a support ticket. As it is, my temporary fix it to open the Task Manager & find VEGAS Pro not in Apps but in Background processes. End task. After that Vegas will open on the next try is my experience.

I thought the problem was over. It isn't 😭

This seems to be the only way to get jammed Vegas Pro to start 😒 Thanks for the advice 👍🙂

Didn't work for me. Running build 424. Got error message. Tried reboot; still get message. Vegas tries to start, progress bar starts, tries to load "ASIO driver Magix Low Latency 2016......" then stops working and error message appears saying program stopped working correctly and Windows will close program.

I have that same problem of Vegas remaining in memory for about a minute on my laptop after I exit . With every version of Vegas since vp16 running Win10. My understanding is that it has something to do with the laptop's video implementation and drivers. If it never happened to you under Win10, maybe driver and bios updates certified for Win11 will fix it. My workaround is to click on a shortcut to a PowerShell script that automates killing Vegas in memory just like doing it manually with Task Manager. I run it after exit when I want to restart Vegas right away:

%SystemRoot%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe "taskkill /IM vegas190.exe /F"

I think Happy Otter Scripts comes with a little exe tool that accomplishes the same thing.

The problem of VP19 pro not starting was solved when I updated the Radeon driver to the latest Decemeber one.

I thought that, too, after updating my Nvidia driver recently. All appeared to work okay, but that was proven wrong in later sessions.

Sometimes Vegas opens first try, other times I have to do my temporary fix & that is to open the Task Manager, find & select VEGAS Pro, not in Apps but in Background processes, End task. After that Vegas will open on the next try & there after until the PC is shut off.

Sometimes VP 19.0 (Build 550) will start (on Windows 11 Pro, 21H2, OS build 22000.613) if I open a .veg project even if VP Pro won't start from the start menu.

Sometime Vegas opens, sometimes not. When it doesn't I use this sure fire "fix" in bold above. Works without fail for me. HTH

Right now, with a fully updated Windows 11 and AMD drivers 22.4.1, every time the system boots... the very first attempt to start Vegas 19 (build 550) fails. No splash screen, no nothing. It's like I didn't click on the icon, but clicking it a second time doesn't help. I'll find the process sitting in Task Manager doing nothing and using 3.5mb RAM.

If I kill that process and start Vegas again, it loads just fine - and will start perfectly fine an unlimited number of times after that... at least until the PC reboots, and that first attempt fails again.

Kind of an annoying problem, and seems like one that shouldn't be THAT hard to debug since it's so reproducible for quite a few people.

Exactly. Vegas is aware of the issue but I haven't heard if Vegas supports Win 11 yet. I have found other software related issues in Win 11. They're small but never the less annoying.

Considering that Windows 11 has been officially out for 7 months now, never mind developer previews, it’s starting to get a bit glaring that an active, current, in-development piece of software is still having basic issues. And on my system it’s the only one I have with issues, and that includes a bunch of much older apps (heck, I’m still using Office 2007!).

jetdv wrote on 5/11/2022, 11:41 AM

@daniel-t, I just purchased a new laptop that came pre-installed with Windows 11. I installed VEGAS Pro 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 on it and every version seems to run great. I have not seen any issues at all running VEGAS on Windows 11 vs my other laptop running Windows 10.

I would think the people having the most problems are people that started on Windows 10 and "updated" to Windows 11. On this clean install of Windows 11, I haven't seen any issue as mentioned above.

p.s. my favorite office version is Office 97!

daniel-t wrote on 5/11/2022, 11:46 AM

This is a clean install of 11 on a brand new system… issue’s been there since day one, but I’m not entirely sure it’s been as “consistent” at not starting with the prior build of Vegas. Thing is I’ve been using build 550 most heavily on this system.

I’m sure it’s something to do with an initial service not starting, or not being “available” when it checks and it just hangs up. Probably some commonality with those of us experiencing issues. Like, I’m using AMD graphics and (for now) the built-in Realtek audio.
