Can't open projects - CTD - after update to Vegas 15, projects no longer open in 14 OR in 15. I think it's a redcode error.

   Application Name:    VEGAS Pro
   Application Version: Version 14.0 (Build 270) 64-bit
   Problem:             Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
   Fault Module:        c:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 14.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\redplug\redplug.dll
   Fault Address:       0x00007FF837311FB7
   Fault Offset:        0x00000000000D1FB7

I'm now locked out of a project that is due tomorrow with no way to recover! Tried uninstalling both packages and only installing 14, and still can't open to edit!

You may try to reset Vegas Pro by starting the app while holding Shift+Ctrl pressed. Be aware this will delete all your custom presets and individually made preferences.

Marco, I tried that. Clearing the preferences does work the first time, 100%. But the second time you load it, it crashes to desktop with the same error. I'd be locked into clearing preferences every time AND hardware acceleration isn't working for me in either 14 or 15. So I'd also not be able to edit because the default settings are hardware accel on.

GrimZeus, If you don't work with RED media, can you try move this c:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 14.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\redplug\redplug.dll plug-in out from the folder?

*Not sure if this help... but I personally will try that.

But I do work with Red Media. Wow how I wish that I could go back to an old install. (even my old installer fetches the new files)

This dll is from 6/12/2017 even in Vegas 14. It's broken for me, Red One MX footage.

GrimZeus wrote on 9/5/2017, 8:00 PM

OK, The bug cause is found. Any timeline with nested Red footage isn't going to open. CTD. Red footage on a single timeline, no problem. Red footage inside a nested timeline in your project, it's dead.

Hi everybody,

I think, we let everyone voice their opinion about the new VEGAS Pro 15. And to avoid a lengthy thread (i think we already reached new heights 😄) with the same questions repeating over and over again, I will lock this thread. Please create a new thread if you have not found your answer yet or you want to share more feedback. This will make it easier to review and process your requests.

Here a little summary of the situation (very simplified)

Your feedback:

  • You were not happy about the price politicy, especially for upgrades.
    • A grace period was suggested
  • You really like Mercalli as a third party product and would like to have it in VP 15.
  • You want more bug fixes

We are taking your feedback very seriously and will discuss potential changes internally. Thank you everybody for your feedback and passion towards our software.

Things you should be aware of:

New AVC issues in VP15? Try disabling so4compoundplug.dll!

How to send error reports using the Problem Reporting Service (PRS)

Improvements you possibly were looking forward to:

  • Panasonic GH5 10-bit 422 footage now opens correctly
  • The video stream of JVC YUV 4:2:2 footage now decodes correctly
  • iPhone/iPad footage now opens correctly (without requiring Quicktime)

You can find the full list of new features and bug fixes here.

If you want to know why some features were implemented and not others, have a look at Gary's great insight.

Thank you all again for your feedback!

PS: You can always write me a PM, if you have questions. 😉
