@fr0sty, I've been with AMD for several years, since the original Radeon days of ATI. I had a couple of nVidia (that's how it was a long time ago), but ATi/AMD have been my cards. I had the HD4890, HD5870 w/6 display ports, HD7870 and now RX480. I've heard of driver issues, but personally never had any. Now with AMD for exporting, it's really fast. I do work with dual monitors all the time for everything I do, and never had one "black out" on me.

As always, your mileage may vary. I've found AMD and drivers very stable.

@D7K, I just placed an exported AMD VCE file on the timeline. It barely plays back smoothly, even in Draft-Half. Then it basically stops playing at all. Ouch. No crash though, but for all purposes, with this laggy performance, it might as well crash. Running AMD 1700X @ 3.9Ghz and AMD RX480 8GB graphics card. Audio from the video plays back fine. Video is extremely choppy and laggy.

I tossed an Intel HEVC exported from within VP15, and it played back much better with Preview-Auto (1920x1080).

Looking at Properties on both, they both say Intel HEVC, but the file size difference is the Intel HEVC exported with CPU is 1.3GB while the AMD VCE is 870MB.

I would never want to edit these files....

Anyone using AMD RX580 out there and successfully rendered using the VCE? If so, please let me know what Windows builds (whether 1803, 1709 or earlier) and what version of the GPU driver (18.x, 17.x or earlier) you are using?

In my case, VEGAS Pro 15 b361 would not even launch on Windows 10 Pro (b1703) and GPU driver (17.12.2) spitting an error "VEGAS Pro has stopped working". If I upgrade to Windows 10 Pro b1803, VEGAS Pro b361 does launch but it simply refuses to render saying "not available" (sorry, I cannot remember the exact message) when selecting one of the VCE-driven templates (or even QSV) on the MAGIX AVC encoder. I did update the GPU driver as well as the Intel HD (530) driver to the most recent ones but in vain. Timeline performance is also bad. I am currently restoring the previous disc image.

Thank you Magix for finally support AMD new graphic card, Vega 10 Frontier Edition.. Here is what I find on my test on 2 computers. My footage GH5 4K 30P 10 bit 400mbps place on the TL. with sharpen and curve FX applied.

System 1 I7 4930K 6 core @ 4.5ghz with R9 290X....... Under render template, I only see MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4.

MAGIX HEVC AAC MP4 won't show up with my R9 290X video card. . I try to render 4K 2160P 29.97s with AMD VCE BUT end with error. But I am able render 1080P with VCE and it is very fast indeed.

System 2 AMD 1950X @4ghz 16 cores with AMD Vega 10 Frontier Edition..... With the Frontier Edition card. The render template show both MAGIX AVC/MAGIX HEVC MP4. This bad boy render 4K 2160P with AMD VCE fast and no error. This build is a big improvement over the previous one. My Frontier Edition card can rocks all the footages on the TL smooth .

FABULOUS THANK YOU. I've held off any updates and stuck with build 177 since that was released for fear of messing something up. I took the leap on 361 and it installed flawlessly [no hickups with transfer of license etc. etc.] kept all custom settings as they were and rendered a few test videos perfectly. SO - the reward for me is that I now have ALL the combined new features since build 177. Thanks again :>))

PS:: The only thing I canot see is the new link on the Help menu =

"Added a link in the Help menu to the VEGAS Community home page where users can quickly access the VEGAS user forums, tutorial videos, and the VEGAS Magazine"

There is just the previous "Check for News" which pops up a No News dialog.

Not an issue, but thought I'd mention it for completeless...

Overall nice job on making a very good program even better.

My issue with AMD VEC was due to setting the bite rates to higher than the footage I was using. I had set the bit rate @ 135 and my source rate was 100. I set both upper and lower to 100 and render to 4K and the file imported fine and played fine. USER Error on my part. I am getting very fast render times.

michael-cookson wrote on 5/27/2018, 1:39 PM

I still have the memory issue when I use my Nvidia NEVNC option to render, also the preview window does still not update live when making any changes to any Fx filters I use, it does if I select my Intel graphics card.

Ouch. Win 10 1709, and using MSI Gaming X RX480 8GB with driver 18.2.1 installed. 18.5.1 is the latest. I just haven't bothered yet to install it. For Standard titles with motion, it takes it's normal sweet time. But once it hits video... it takes off in rendering on my AMD 1700X (3.9Ghz overclock) machine. Screen shot of rendering a short part of a 4 1/2 minute 4K video. WMP plays back the finished export fine. VP plays it back terribly.

Footage Panasonic 4K 25fps 100mbps. Default Magix NEVC>Internet 4K 2160P 25FPS (AMD VCE). Bitrate of exported file is 26.4Mbps

@ReyFox, thank you for the info. Previously I was using RX470 (Sapphire Nitro 4GB). On a cleanly installed Windows 10 Pro (1709) with the then most current GPU driver, the RX470 somehow behaved oddly, not providing the QSV render option even caused VEGAS Pro 14 (b270) to crash and/or hang. I am now back on Windows 1703 with 12.12.2 driver for RX580 (Sapphire Nitro 8GB) that replaced RX470, VEGAS Pro 14 (b270) /15 (b321) are stable (rarely crash or hang), and also provide with a fast render speed, particularly on QSV. As such, I am finding VEGAS Pro to be sensitive to software drivers (particularly of GPU).

@Shinra Bansho, there is a huge difference in the graphics drivers between your version and mine. Have you tried that latest one? I've always kept them up to date, but also keep the old ones around just in case the latest does not work out. And while VP might be finicky on drivers, it might also be some incompatibility that is fixed with later graphics driver updates. I've not had a problem with either VP14 or VP15 except for the exclusion of AMD support in VP14. Now, as I showed in the screen shot, this thing blasts way faster in rendering than before.

Now... if only I could play back the exported file on the timeline.......

@Reyfox, yes, I did try the latest GPU driver when I temporarily upgraded Windows 10 Pro to 1803 in order to run VEGAS Pro 15 (b361). However, VP15 failed to render on VCE (or even QSV) and the timeline playback performance was worse (hence I restored the prior disc image). I currently have a project to finish so when I have more time I intend to upgrade VEGAS Pro 15 to b361 once again. I would like to get the benefit of VCE.

update inspired me to actually USE my 15 purchase for something. might regret that choice? not a huge timeline but some complexity. Been suffering many weird, random issues I've NEVER seen before.

- getting hung on ONE still image in preview window
- great FPS, shortly followed by poor FPS
- locks and crashes are happening again, now that I am two days into it and no turning back
- random black preview window
- took a screen shot with Aspect letterbox and the top one is WHITE?? NEVER seen that happen before
- window divider NOT staying where I left it - okay, randomly SOMETIMES. um, what???
- clip head thumbnails not showing up. okay, sometimes later.
- had HALF a video clip suddenly act like it was muted, only to fade back in on it's own. NO automation, no FX on it, NO clue why it decided to do that. Next 15 restart fixed that.

confidence fading fast.

june 1st deadline looming, no time to document and send details for R&D, just wanted others to know there are still issues. If I have to dump 15 and go back to 14 for THIS edit, I'm f@#!$d! SOOO MUCH work already put in.... :(

Does DISABLING So4 DLL still help, even after this latest update???

Just bought V15 and checking things on a brand new win10 partition...so far first bug: V15 has a freeze frame in preview when playing XAVC-I /mxf files. XAVCS clips next to it play fine.

Not a good start if you ask me. Got V15 because of the promising reports in this thread, looks like I'd rather stay on V13 for my next project. Too risky at this point. I had regretted cashing out for V14, I hope I won't regret V15.

@wwjd Copy from VP15 and paste to VP14 can get you a long way. Can't test it right now as I'm on a long render but I think you can get FX etc. across.

1. Make sure your GPU drivers are up to date.

2. Try disabling GPU acceleration and seeing if that fixes the problems. You'll lose some performance, but it will isolate the issue to your GPU and we can go from there determining if it is a GPU driver issue or if it is a Vegas issue.

3. Disable so4compoundplug.dll, see if that helps.

I haven't had a single problem like any of those, and your preview window bugs sound like a GPU issue, so I'm thinking it is related to your hardware configuration/drivers.

@Shinra Bansho, not too sure on the timeline playback. Since I have 4K on the timeline, I usually work with proxies. Yeah, it takes time to render them, but I can edit much faster and see the results quicker. Using Vegas Titles & Text>Slide Right won't play back on the timeline smoothly at all. Something I think it should be able to do. Even with Preview set to Draft/Quarter. I guess only RAM rendering will show it. Something that should be fixed hopefully in the future. I usually use Preview/Full and it works fairly smooth.

Have you updated your graphics driver?

Yup, I always keep my drivers up to date, especially GPU. Also reset that driver to DEFAULTS. GPU has been disabled in Vegas since forever, although I did try on and back off again with no positive results.

I Disabled So4 DLL again out of desparation, and edited SOLID all afternoon and evening. FYI
