Vegas Pro 19 crashing and corrupting files

@RogerS I have uninstalled reinstalled, updated the driver and build, reset all caches

RogerS wrote on 10/22/2021, 8:32 AM

Did you update the Intel driver? If you did, what version are you using?
If you didn't, can you find a newer driver on your computer manufacturer's website? If not you can try Intel's update tool: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html This may or may not help as Vegas wants a newer iGPU.

If that doesn't help, for File I/O, try changing the hardware decoder to NVDEC (if it is a choice) or none, as your iGPU isn't supported in Vegas Pro 19 (CPU is old).

ok I will change the decoder

@RogerS I updated the intel driver and changed the decoder to NVDEC. I am getting this error now:

@RogerS should I just downgrade to Vegas 17 at this point?

RogerS wrote on 10/22/2021, 9:35 PM

I'd do another reset of Vegas now that you've upgraded the drivers. (hold control + shift and double-click the desktop icon to start). Then go back to file i/o and change decode to NVDEC again.

After that, can you try the benchmarking project and try to cut and paste and undo? Let me know if that crashes.

@RogerS  That option has disappeared now… 🤔 NVDEC is not there

RogerS wrote on 10/23/2021, 9:32 AM

Odd... one other idea is to restart the computer and see if it returns.

Under help/driver update does it still show the GTX 940 and the latest driver or does Vegas not see the card at all? Under render as, if you click on MagicAVC are there NVENC options?

For testing related to crashes, I'd turn decode off anyway and see if it helps with stability.

@RogerS This is after the restart

RogerS wrote on 10/25/2021, 7:23 PM

So it worked after the driver update but then stopped working after the reset?

Perhaps delete this file  C:\Users\enigm\AppData\Local\MAGIX\FileIO\1.0\So4HardwareDetectionOutput.xml and run Vegas again which will force Vegas to look for your GPUs again and recreate it.

(I just did this on my own system as I don't want to recommend anything dangerous to you)

It happened to me too. I opened a project I was working on the night before, and it crashed vegas , and it was unrecoverable. I did send crash logs though, by what I could understand it's again FX conflicts ( svfx).

If I hadn't saved the project 2 minutes before the crashing version on another drive, it would have been a total catastrophy. As it is now, V19 just eels totally unsafe.

Winstead-BarnesJr wrote on 10/26/2021, 12:59 PM

@Mindmatter Exactly. It feels unsafe and unstable because it will destroy the project and you will not be able to recover your work from any starting point... Where is the fix to this bug? I had no issues before this new roll out.

Winstead-BarnesJr wrote on 10/26/2021, 1:00 PM

@RogerS I am doing that now.

walter-i. wrote on 10/26/2021, 1:31 PM

@Winstead-BarnesJr, @Mindmatter
If you wish, you can specify any location and also real-time saving for your automatic backups under Tools/Advanced Saving.

Winstead-BarnesJr wrote on 10/26/2021, 3:34 PM

@walter-i.Even when I save it just before it crashes, after the crash the file is corrupt. Therefore I made 3 different default backup saves just to test this. Every time I saved before I knew a glitch was near, ended with the saved file being corrupted. 😡🤬

Winstead-BarnesJr wrote on 10/27/2021, 12:55 PM

@RogerS  I deleted the file and the issue still exists. I cannot find a gpu option...

RogerS wrote on 10/27/2021, 8:28 PM

Is the NVIDIA GPU also missing from preferences/video? Do you see any NVENC options under render as/MagixAVC?

You are also using VP 17, right? Does the GPU show up there in preferences/video?

In 19 we wanted to disable GPU decoding anyway as you're having stability issues, so I suggest trying it with decoding set to off and see if it still crashes with your Canon footage.

@RogerS It is not showing up in the I/O page

RogerS wrote on 10/28/2021, 10:47 AM

Okay, the GPU is there in preferences/video in 19? That's good. Don't worry about file i/o. Turn off GPU decoding for now. Does a render work?

Also, your setting for dynamic ram preview is very high. Move it back to 5% or 10% as you only have 16GB of ram total for Vegas, Windows and whatever else you have open.
