Here you can select the Studio driver instead of the Game-Ready driver.

Looking at your screenshot : you have a lot of applications running at the same time. Word, Excel, Chrome are all memory hungry. I don't see how much memory you have, 32 Gbyte is the minimum for 4K editing, so before you start editing : close all other applications (I even shut down internet connection when I edit)

You are working on an underpowered laptop. The Intel HD graphics 5500 dates from 2015 and is really not cut out for such work. It is part of the Broadwell CPU line, such as the i3-5005U / i3-5010U, i5-5200U / 5300U, and i7-5500U / 5600U. These chips are used in numerous mainstream, thin-and-light, and business-class laptops, which are primarily designed with everyday home and office computing in mind, rather than high-performance for demanding games and other intensive tasks.

To edit 4k video you really need better equipment.

there is no other option

@Bruggeling Hi. I have not had any issues with editing before this update. Ive had even photoshop open while editing. This new roll out is causing crashes and corruption of projects... nothing was wrong until the 19 roll out. Now I cannot go back to 17 with the projects I have already created....

Winstead-BarnesJr wrote on 10/21/2021, 11:56 AM

@Bruggeling Also I do not shoot in 4K. I shoot in 1080..

I am a software developer myself, and we tend to work on state-of-the-art machines. The problems become only visible when the software is distributed and executed on basic pcs. The users always demand more functionality, which often requires more memory, faster processors...

It is impossible to test software on all kind of machines, unless you have the resources of Microsoft, and even then...

The best thing you can do if you don't want to spend money on a new pc is to look to expand your memory to 32 GByte, that will solve a lot of frustration.

@vkmast From what I understand, the graphics driver is up to date. I have checked in the system and online. They are matching. The crash comes when I shortcut undo, copy , and paste. This did not happen before.

Winstead-BarnesJr wrote on 10/21/2021, 12:21 PM

@Bruggeling I have edited with Vegas for years and atleast 3 on the pc with no issues until the rollout. no issues with 17. I don't feel buying another PC is the issue, but please elaborate. Every other program I have functions normally... I don't feel Vegas is a demanding program like Final Cut or Premiere

So it seems and no Studio driver available.

I suspect @Bruggeling may be right.

Nothing to do with feelings. All professional edting software is VERY demanding. Now you are struggling to edit, but rendering will take even more resources.

When you are in the timeline, the PC has to "play" a movie, only there is no movie yet, it has to combine all the events on different tracks, look at all the included fx, and put that all together to give you the ilusion of your final result, not to mention that it also changes the format on the fly to fit in the preview window.

Then start a complete new project with only one or two of your sourcefiles, that if you wish you can edit some way and after that render that to your desired outcom and tell us the results.

@Bruggeling ok. why have I not had any issues until the 19 rollout? Ive been editing this way with no issues. None. No bugs, no crashing. NO glitches or corruption. The space on my drives have not changed. The only unstable factor has been this update?

Winstead-BarnesJr wrote on 10/21/2021, 3:28 PM

@j-v I do not have issues with renders. My issues are the programs unstable functions. When I copy and paste, it crashes, when I undo with control z, it crashes and then corrupts. I have NO problems rendering or even applying and playing effects. None. It is just unstable. I have made a ton of edits this year. with NO problems. same system. same old functions. Same ol cpu. no issues.

If you do not feel sufficiently well advised here, you are also free to contact Magix support.

My impression is that the software has developed enormously since Vegas Pro 17, but your laptop has stood still.

A couple of comments- there are no Studio drivers for that generation of NVIDIA cards, but that's not a problem. The driver you are using should be fine.

I don't see a lack of ram as a major issue- I edited 4K with 8GB of system ram for years in Vegas. Of course I didn't run ram-heavy applications like Photoshop at the same time I used Vegas.

The Intel iGPU may be more of an issue- non-supported ones can cause crashes in Vegas. I couldn't read the file i/o screenshot but try changing the decoder to none or NVIDIA if it's on Intel and see if there are crashes.

That's good you could complete the render of the benchmarking project. That suggests that there is an issue with the combination of hardware, Fx or media you are using. Now it's time to try to narrow down what you are doing when the crash occurs.

@RogerS Thank You. It crashes when I copy and paste. It crashes and corrupts the project when I undo (control + z)

RogerS wrote on 10/22/2021, 7:44 AM

Please confirm what fixes you tried. What is file i/o decoding set to?

Can you replicate crashes in the sample benchmarking project as well?
