VEGAS Pro Feature Requests

I'd like to see nested projects retain track level edits, compositing, keyframes, etc. so that we don't need the warning anymore when they are created.

When using a laptop touchpad can pinch be used to zoom in and out of the timeline? I find VEGAS very hard to use without a mouse.

Usually, most of the programs are in the form of selecting the language of the country with the English version as the default.
However, Vegas Pro is released for each language.
It would be nice to change this to a method in which English is the default and the language of one's country is selected as in the previous method.

I'd like to see Kerning added to Titles and Text. Many typefaces support this, and it is the one thing that is missing that is present in the Legacy text.

Text? Only if all my international characters could work properly, like é, á, ő, ű, etc..

Fonts have these characters and in every text editor works fine (word, openoffice or even a simple notepad),
only in Vegas i can use very few fonts without problem. Why?

I would add a tab based + stacked timelines option like this: https://ibb.co/vmC3gnz

+Few more ideas I described here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-21-22-feature-request-ideas--141558/#ca884726

I would update the Ripple Edit Tool, so it would do the same with all the media on timeline on the "left" side, too. Using the 3 selectable option, but you could bring the left tracks - based on the same logic - from the left to the right.

As I know it's font based not Vegas based problem most of the times. The font is not supporting these special characters not the software. Maybe some are not supported by the software for whatever Unicode big endian reasons.

For what practical purpose?

If you want to move the entire or parts of the project from 00:00:00:00, just use auto ripple using any of the 3 options from the first event on the track that you want to move with rippling. It only involves choosing the first event from where you want to ripple - easy peasy.

Maybe when you are in the middle of an edit point zoomed in you don't want to wander to the beginning to move all markers and or regions or specific tracks closer from the left side. Maybe not everyone would use this but in some situations it would save a few clicks.

I can't recall any difficulty when using international characters (mainly French and German) in Vegas Titles & Text, NBFX Titler Pro or BorisFX Title Studio. But ALT+numeral using the keyboard's keypad needs to be used - not the 1-0 keys horizontally above the alpha keys (as typically found on a laptop).

VR180 support:

Ability to correct the 3D alignment of the original fisheye views (already doable) then convert them to equirectangular projections.

Ability to add vr180 metadata.

Conventional 3D:

Ability to add 3D metadata needed by YouTube. (A moving target the last few years.)

VR180, 3D 360 VR:

Ability to preview 360/180 projection in 3D. 360 preview and 3D are now mutually exclusive in the project settings.

Ability to add 360 VR metadata.

VR headset display support?

@3d87c4 Have a look at the Resolve tutorials on YouTube, I think it does everything you want, the problem is, it's Resolve so everything is more complex then it needs to be, and also for VR type resolutions 6K and 8K only Studio works, with the free version limiting you to 4K.

The other problem is the 'main guy' who does VR Resolve Tutorials on YT is profoundly annoying now, he didn't used to be.

3d87c4 wrote on 7/6/2023, 10:08 PM

@Former user yes...but...I bought, and have used, Vegas specifically for traditional 3D, 3D 360, & 180VR for a while now. I've kinda been keeping my eye on Resolve, but the workflow differences & inertia have kept me here.

An updated Credit Roll would be nice. Currently the program crashes during autosave if a lot of credits are placed in 1 column (think from around 450 columns onwards).

Also, when importing names from a notepad for credits, special characters do not import. So for example, René turns into René

I used to have this problem, but I managed to solve it. Download Notepad++ (its free, and a great text editor). Change your encoding on the text file to ANSI. Save that file...and you should be able to bring in the special characters.

RENDERING suggestions:

- the current rendering fps text update is so quick, that it's often impossible to read. Average fps is fine, but if i like to check the current fps, my eyes going crazy. This should be updated less frequently, say in every 0.5-1 seconds, so users can read it.

- estimated time needed for rendering is only accurate after 4%. It is so since many-many years. What's the explanation for this? If i multiple the number by 4 while rendering just hit 1%, i got the same time, as when i wait until 4%.

- often i need to pause a long render, but there is no such button. Would be nice..

- in many encoding programs if i stop rendering, the partial file will be correct, readable, playable. But not in Vegas, which delete the whole rendered movie. Why?

- as we all know, storage space is never enough. Why Vegas need 3x much space for the rendering, than the finished file itself?
That wasn't the case in earlier time, for example with Vegas 11. Seems like video and audio are rendered separately and they will muxed at the end? If this is the case this slows down everything, because read and write at the same time on a same drive can be slow, especially on hdd (poor hdd head). By me a 10GB rendered video needs at least 30GB free space and extra 10 minute at the end because of muxing. Should be done differently.

- if i don't have that 30GB free space, say only 20GB, then it would be nice to see a warning message, that this is not enough. Both estimated size and free space are known and displayed. Now rendering start, and when finished, muxing process fail, mp4 will be corrupt, unplayable. All this after few hours of waiting in some cases..

- the blue render progress bar line should be more thick, so we can see it from further too, not only from sitting in front of the monitor. Often i like to check it from 2-3m, and it's hard to see that thin line.

- when i select render template, folder and enter filename, would be nice to start rendering with the press of ENTER. Now filename will be highlighted (why?), and render won't start, no matter how many times i press enter. I have to press TAB or CLICK on the render button. Not a big deal, but in Vegas 11 it worked so much easier and quicker.

What you think?

For the project media window when you change to show details it would be useful to have the encoded date. I'm looking at GoPro footage here and need footage shot on a particular day, however all I see is the day it was copied to the hard drive. Date/time is blank.

MediaInfo has the correct date the file was encoded so I have to open a media player and check it there.

I always rename my footage with a renaming tool to the encoded date+number. Example: 2023-08-27 123.mp4. So no need to go into details.

With a renaming tool you can also change the modified/copied date to the encoded date.

I need halation effect in Vegas pro.

Of course, halation is different from just a glow, and refers to an effect that frames highlights with orange.

Halation is a useful effect that creates a filmy feel, so I think this feature is essential for VEGAS Pro, but there are very few plug-ins that include halation effects that are compatible with VEGAS Pro, and the only one, magic bullet, is extremely expensive and unaffordable. If halation effects were added to vegas, the range of expression would expand and it would be great.

Lock the track at the track header.

Be able to adjust volume just on the clip, and not affect the entire track.

@Reyfox ? isn't that already available on each clip or with the volume envelope.
