VEGAS Pro Feature Requests

1 ... Also on track colors, somewhere along the way under MAGIX ownership those colors have become pastel thus making event header information very difficult to read due to a distinct lack of contrast - the header information is a white font color. Please make event header information legible via using a white font color against a dark track color (as currently occurs) but a black font color when a light track color is used (which means most track colors).

2 ... It would be superb if the centre volume control handle on audio events included a back click context menu to allow a user defined minus volume to be used. All too often, I need to expand the audio track height in order to lower the volume of the event to the level that I want. What I am asking is akin to that available when wanting to user set the volume on a node on a volume envelope.

Using the volume FX is of course an option but it is so much quicker to simply adjust the event volume in the quickest way possible particularly when wanting to balance the volume with surrounding audio event volumes.

Please return to VP18 UI, or at least make it optional. The old icons and track information were much easier to read in VP18.

Den: exactly!!
Very strange icons in V19, i can't get used to since months.

Please let us color events, like you see in Cubase, where tracks can give their color to events by default, but you can recolor each single event. It would make life so much easier if you have to handle a huge number of clips and events in a project and want to group or catalogue them into certain different categories.

Like to see a new feature to facilitate multicam... the ability to specify a camera lut to be incorporated into Vegas' proxy file generation. Would suggest the ability to specify a camera lut during the media import process and then apply the lut to both the media and proxy generation. And automatically bypass the media lut when the proxy is enabled in Preview and Draft preview modes. So that those modes could be selected in multicam edit mode to remove the performance drag of dynamic lut application. Would also suggest a preference to disable this new feature so the import process remains unchanged for those who never use camera luts.

For Titles and Text it can be challenging to edit a paragraph of text to fit. Could we get a word wrap feature and the ability to made the text input box larger so we don't have to scroll as much? Right now increasing the media generator window size just yields extra border it doesn't make the text input box any larger.

From a UI perspective are we supposed to edit in the preview window? If so why does text get smaller or larger in the input box? It makes it harder to see what has been input given the fixed (and small) input box size.

1. Color different clips on a track

2. Need a good titler with some basic presets!! (lower third, kinetics, etc). Newblue is nice, but it's 3rd party. A few basic ones would be nice.

3. Better Transitions (rolls, wipes, swooshes)...without having to go to 3rd party again

4. Round of applause for great work you guys are doing!

Hello, I really don't want to make graph/value presets with normal graph/value presets settings (slow fade, fast fade) in 3D feature from vegas, there are different methods to make graph/value but it takes me a lot of time to deal with it. In short please put graph/value in percent vegas. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/download/file/mediacenter/l2adhc58saef/WGX4iXG3oooXXlMMn4lo0X43GDDDM30L - video sped up by 600

please update more graph/value presets. please! I really want this.please bring it to suit the people of today. do this if you cannot bring graphs/value.
or just bring graph/value to all effects, vegas pro 21 is about to come out and still graph/value has not come to all effects and 3d.

I would like some indication on the asset in Project Media to show that it has been used on the timeline.

Also to be able to Lock and Unlock an entire track at the track header.

Screenshot below is of Pinnacle Studio 26 Ultimate. The features I am requesting have been available for 11 years.

And much longer with some software. The Asset indication has been requested on this forum many times. Okay if you change the asset view to details you can see how many times it's been used. That's useful but an indication on the thumbnail would also be great so you can instantly see whether an item has been used.

Perhaps there's a technical reason Vegas cannot do this?

Reyfox wrote on 5/26/2023, 6:11 AM

We look at video and image thumbnails while editing. Not a "detail" view of files. Yes, looking at the details will show you what has been used and how many times, but that requires extra unnecessary (at least to me) clicking of the mouse. Just a small NOTICEABLE checkmark/indicator on the thumbnail would be a nice quick fast reference.

And let's not forget the ability to lock an entire track at the track header.

We should be able to increase/decrease numbers in the input fields by using the arrow keys on the keyboard. It's the natural way to work. It's an assumed GUI feature.

Ignore this request below, solution already given in this THREAD.

The ability to embed markers into a clip. I have a consumer editor that can do this easily. Maybe it can be done through Event Pan/Crop of the clip and adding markers to the clip from within it

It's doable with Vegasaur or with embedding markers via trimmer.

@alice-f the solution is in this THREAD. Easy to do without using Vegasaur or any ancillary software.

Hello Vegas developers, please implement this feature in your future updates:

Ability to split timeline clips with a hotkey while dragging timeline cursor with a mouse.

Is it possible to split a timeline clip into 2 parts while holding the timeline cursor indicator with a mouse (while dragging) and pressing a shortcut key?

It is possible to do in Resolve, Premiere, Avid, Pinnacle, Edius and other NLE's.

I do thousands of cuts of a longer clips, and without this feature I need to drag cursor with mouse click, release mouse button, press S to split, hover over cursor again, click with mouse again and start dragging again...

This takes a lot of extra effort...

All other methods involve a lot of unnecessary key commands and mouse clicks.

My goal is to cut 6 hours of footage by only dragging the mouse and pressing S when the clip needs to be split.

Pretty straightforward editing job I've done for years in another software.

What I found is that almost none of the hotkeys are operational while the left mouse button is pressed and hold.

Please make it possible to use the hotkeys simultaneously while the mouse buttons are pressed. Thanks!

Reyfox wrote on 6/8/2023, 1:20 PM

@alice-f, ok, I now see what you are referring to. While dragging the mouse, hit "s", and nothing happens. While holding the left mouse button and dragging the cursor, even when you stop, if you are holding down the left mouse button, "s" to split doesn't work.

And yes, you can do as you wrote in Pinnacle Studio easily.

@alice-f Good advice.

I also suggested this in a post I made 3 years ago. (also tag @VEGASDerek to have a look ) https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/cutting-and-deleting-efficiency-vegas-vs-premiere--120565

In that post, I broke down the editing efficiency of Premiere and Vegas in detail. And I hope Vegas can absorb Premiere's good editing features. Because when competing with a big company like Adobe, Vegas may never be able to outperform Premiere in feature diversity. But the advantage of Vegas is that it possesses high editing efficiency, so the Vegas Team should pay attention to maintaining Vegas' leading position in editing efficiency.

Great post Ian! You've brilliantly covered all the essentials that need to be added into Vegas to outperform the competitors! This is what I was asking for:

On the efficiency front, if you have the fx plugin window open, I think it would be logical for the plugin window to always show the fx chain for the current, active (selected) clip on the timeline, in the same way that the color grading panel shows the controls for the active clip.

In the example below, the fx window would show the fx chain for whichever clip the user click on. This would prevent the frequent situation I encounter in which I'm not sure which clip the fx window is showing, and I mistakenly make an edit to another clip's fx chain thinking I'm working on a different clip.

I haven't been able to think of a reason why the current behavior would be desirable. When is it ever valuable to edit one clip's fx settings while looking at a different clip?
